The DAKINE Titan Mitten brings waterproof, insulated warmth and a host of features to keep you riding in Arctic temperatures. Behind the Titan\357\277\275s Weathershield shell and RubberTec palm, a Gore-Tex waterproof breathable insert protects the Thermoloft synthetic insulation from melting snow and ice. A removable, washable stretch fleece liner amps up warmth in extreme cold.
Bottom Line: The one mitt you\357\277\275ll want when frostbite is in the forecast.
I worked at a snowboard shop and these mittens would always sell-out on storm days. My boyfriend had these, but never used them because he thought mittens were cheesy-looking or whatever the reason. When he finally lost his gloves and had to use these last minute, it changed his mind forever. He raved on how much warmer his hands were and what a difference it was compared to gloves. Not only are the mitts insulated and GoreTex waterproof, they come with a removable mitt fleece liner. There is a goggle sqee-gee on one hand, zip pockets for hand warmers, and a little goggle wipe that comes in one of the zip pockets. Well worth the money. One tip about using the hand warmers in the pocket: the reason why its better to put them in the pockets on top of the hands rather than straight in the gloves with your palm is because the blood vessels are closer to the skin on top of your hands. That way the warmth from the hand warmers will most efficiently warm the blood flowing through your hands when its on top rather than on your palm.
These mitts rule, my 3rd pair. And for the price, wow. They are waterproof, and very warm. However, in warmer conditions they aren't unbearable, gore-tex to the rescue! Even if you do get cold they have zippers on them for inserting heat packs, and inside one of them there is even a goggle wiping cloth. If that isn't enough, they also have a soft nose wiping material the right thumb and a goggle squeegee on the left thumb. And to top it off they come with mitten style liners for extra warmth; but they're great for hiking or real warm temps too! So, to sum it up these are awesome for the price. Besides, you know you're going to stink 'em up eventually and need to buy new ones, so you don't need expensive ones.
The other review that mentions their quality might be partially true. I had the drawstring come out of one once, but warrantied it. Otherwise, they're pretty tough. I didn't bump any ski chairs, but I operated my snow blower, shoveled snow, and skied in them for 100+ days combined.

these are my first time wearing mitts, and i really can't see my self going back to gloves. these keep my hands really warm and dry. the only wetness i experience is the sweat from my hand being so warm. i do wish that the liners were glove liners instead of mittens, but these gloves are so warm, i've only used the liners once in about 7 outings. i have nothing to bad to say about these, i love these mittens.
Got'em on SAC for half price. They appear to be well made. I needed a cheap pair and quick. These will do the trick, especially for $30. Seem a bit on the small side though. I sized up to an XL so I could layer gloves under the shell if i wanted to. I'm glad i did. they are tighter than i would have expected. also, the shells seem to have a bit of insulation in them which would be good for not so cold temps.
Lets just say if you are looking for a disposable pair of mitts by all means get these. They wouldn't last a day in the woods. The material is cheap nylon that just doesn't seem durable will rip very easily. I opened them up, tried them on, and sending them back. Very disappointed in the quality of these. Spend the extra $$ and buy the quality
This are nice gloves being GTX and all. But they will not stand up to rugged use. The seams on the pinky finger sides of the came undone after using them from JAN to the beginning of March. Booo! They are warm and dry, but the construction is poor.
These mittens have held up great in the sloppy wet conditions to the cold dry powder ones. The only downfall is the liners I wish they wernt mittens as well but other then that I highly recommend these mittens
Hiya, I too want glove liners with mitten shells--but where to find such a thing? I only know to buy them separately, but it seems someone must make a combo system.
**Update** So I'm my second season with these mitts and I have to say I'm really impressed. They've withstood some abuse and they still look and work great. I lost the mitten liners somewhere along the lines, but I never used them anyway (always glove liners). When I need new Gore-tex mitten shells, I'll be buying these again.
These mitts are the first non Burton Gore Tex Mitts I've bought in years. Unfortunately, the material seems less rugged than the Burton ones. I like how these are a true mitten, unlike the burton ones that have finger seperators that take up lots of space. And my only real complaint is that the liners are mitten shaped also, which I think should be specified. I like the glove liners better, but anything that I can easily remove and throw in the wash is important to me (liners are crutical in saving the shells from smelling horrible) Overall I think these mittens will be okay. We'll see come May.
Used them for the first time yesterday in a big storm @ Loveland, kept hands warm(w/out liners). Temp outside was about 15 degrees. Great material......I guess any complaint would be, a little bit bigger gauntlet to go over my jacket better. Kids have a different pair of Dakine mitts....no bitchin', thats always a bonus!....... Now a year later I can honestly say, I don't really like these mitts and are returning them. The gauntlet sux. They barely fit over any of my jackets. Also when your hands get the slightest bit of moisture on them, the liners stick to your hands. Size runs small! Xl are more like a large.
these mittens are awesome!...greats mittens nice and toasty i got liners with them but i didn't need them if you sweat in them just throw them on a dryer and they will dry right up. but make sure to get them in the right size i have dakine pipe gloves in medium and they shrunk a little they still fit thought but i thought these mittens would do the same so i got them in large, there a bit big on me but there still usable. So over all they are AWESOME.
This is my 3rd pair of DaKine gloves, but the first time I ordered them in "mitten" fashion. I obviously like the company, and couldn't resist them being 15% off.
When I got them however, I pulled the elastic string to tighten the bottom of the glove around my jacket, and the string pulled right out... Interestingly enough, the exact same thing happened on the other glove! It seems like they tried to sew one end of the elastic string inside the glove, and did a poor job twice :)
Backcountry's return policy is fair enough, but I am out $7 for return shipping. I ended up going to my local sporting goods store and buying the same gloves. This time, the elastic strings seem to be sewn on a little better. I also like the fact that I can return them if need be without having to pay for shipping, knowing that these gloves have already failed me once.
I just took these night skiing in about 11 degree weather, with wind and my hands were just fine. I like the goggle wipe, it works pretty good on the spherical goggles lenses.
Also they have a goggle wipe in the left hand pocket, which comes in handy when you want to have a clear dry goggle before a steep and sometimes dark tree run.
The liners are mittens too, they come out just fine. I like to take them out if I get to warm. The only thing that kind of bugs me about the mittens is that when i put the liner on, if the thumbs are not lined up perfectly i feel the seems off the thumb liner and it makes it uncomfortable since its pretty tight on me with big hands. Basically you just have to make sure it is on the right way or you will feel the lining very easily.
