The DAKINE Terminal backpack has some of the best laptop protection around, so you can skate to school without worrying about eating pavement on the way. The side-access sleeve is super padded for your electronics, and the Terminal is one of the few packs we've seen with a dedicated pocket for stowing unruly computer cables. For your listening pleasure, there's a CD/MP3 pocket with a cord port, as well as fleece-lined pockets for your sunglasses and cell phone. Dual-density shoulder straps keep you comfy with a loaded pack, and a breathable Dri-Mesh back panel and shoulder straps prevent a dripping-wet back after your skate to campus.
I bought this pack from the local Radio Shack after doing lots of research and had to pay $90 buck....but hey, no postage. I filled the pack up with my new 15" mbp and headed off on a flight to Portland. While watching the baggage come off the conveyor I saw a pack spin around and fall to the ground from about 1/2 up the conveyor. It was my new Dakine pack with my laptop inside. Damn. To make a short story.... I am typing this on my lap top...the pack did its job just fine. Protected my investment so my vacation was not ruined. This bag is great....hold all my stuff...I even have my kite sticking out of the top of it...wires, chargers, portable hard drives, ipods, iphones. pens, papers, books, newspapers, passport, money and a bottle of wine. Oh, and some spare clothes and such. I will give this pack the Mr. Logan two thumbs up review.
Pros: +great laptop enclosure! The zipper is 16" long so even bigger laptops should fit (mine is a Powerbook G4 15"). The enclosure ends before the bottom of the bag does, so there's room for a thick block of padding under the laptop. Great stuff there.
+The straps are good, and the stretchy sternum strap makes it a comfortable load.
+It's also got slots for CDs in the organizer pocket, which is pretty cool.
+The folder-type pocket in the main section was a surprise to me. It's a little section that does a great job at keeping papers separate from the main load w/o taking up much space.
Cons: - It's big. real big. I'm a little worried it might not qualify as a carry-on piece of luggage on planes.
- The 3 front pockets seem a little silly. I feel like I could fit more stuff in the bag with a large front pocket and a small walkman pocket.
- The sunglass pocket is cute, but not very functional. The pocket has a nice liner, but no rigidity or padding. I couldn't actually consider carrying a decent pair of shades in there with so little protection.

The bag is awesome, I use it to carry my laptop to school everyday. I have a Sony VAIO K17 a pretty big computer, and the terminal accomodates the laptop with no problem. Cord and CD pockets are great, glasses case comes in very handy. I use the inside net pocket for a car radio faceplate holder, it fits perferctly. Probably the best bag I have owned in a while. Great for carrying your laptop unnoticed, fits my books, netMD, headphones, laptop, cords, accessories, glasses, cds and others. Good Bag, enough said.
I use the Dakine Terminal as my daily commute pack. My favorite feature is the pocket in the back where my PowerBook G4 15" slips into. The fit is pretty good and the laptop is actually suspended from the floor of the pack. I like all the pockets, specially the cable pocket inside the huge main compartment. The sunglass pocket is also perfect for my camera. Side pockets accomodate pens, CDs and other media. Also a pocket perfect for a 32oz Nalgene water bottle. This pack is well thought out and manufactured.
This is a great backpack. The shoulder strap is very comfortable, often times I dont even feel like I am carrying so much stuff. The laptop sleeve is very well padded from all sides and the fact that its isolated from the bottom of the backpack makes your laptop that much safer when you or your friends toss your backpack around a lot. Unlike most people, I have an ultra-portable laptop, initially I was worry that it would slide around in the sleeve a lot but surprisingly it actually doesnt. The only think I can complain about is the fact that the pen slots on the side doesnt work so well. I ride my bike a lot, so the pens usually fall out of the slots and I have to dig deep to find my pens. Note also that this is a pretty large backpack so be careful if youre petite in size. I am 510 and it still looks slightly big on me.
I was fed up with the standard issue leather laptop bag for a host of reasons. I wanted a bag that I could use to ride to work, as well as for extend and overnight air travel. This bag is it. It easily accommodates my laptop, all cables (power, cat5, etc) and the peripherals (DVD, mouse, etc). It is perfect for overnight air travel since the main compartment is so large.
This pack is pretty close to being the "bomb". Price is excellent for what it does. I am a photographer who recently put this thing to the test during a grueling 3 weeks of photographing the Olympics in Athens. It sucks up a MacG4/15.4 inch with no issues. All my connection gear, at least a camera body and lens, various odds and ends and of course a nalgene bottle on the side. That side pocket was the only issue. The cord to tighten the pocket broke. Everything else is still rolling. Way cheaper than photo specific packs and it does the job. I have people ask me about this pack all the time.
The highlight of this bag is all the great pockets. It has a side access laptop sleeve which is padded, but not quite as much as I'd like. However there is also a lightweight inside laptop sleeve with a padded bottom which seems a little "safer". Either way I'm satisfied but not amazed by its laptop capabilities. The highlight of this pack however is all the useful pockets. The top of it has a small zippered fleece-lined pocket that's great for cameras, sunglasses, cell phones and other pressure sensitive bits. It has a medium sized pocket in the middle of the front with a neoprene divider and cord port that's for an audio player. I usually use it for cords and my iPod. The bottom pocket has a great pen and small necessity sections. The side pocket has slots for CDs and convenient pockets for cords and other bits. The outside pocket and the water bottle are easily accessible while wearing the pack. It's a really big pack, I can easily get my iBook, and a long weekends worth of clothes, textbooks, and homework into it. Incidentally it also holds a case of beer, just in case you needed to know. And the straps are comfy even when it's super heavy. However sometimes it's a little unwieldy because it's so big; I don't take it to class unless Ive got more than 3 or 4 things to shlep around. Overall it's a badass pack, I totally love it and would definitely recommend it.
I am a road warrior tech guy and have been carrying my tech gear in a pack for 12 years. I have tried everything, but until I found this pack nothing really worked. There was never enough room, or it didn't fit, or it didn't pad it, or it was uncomfortable, or it just pissed you off.
This pack changed all of that for me. It holds everything and more. Everything fits, and it pads everything, especially the laptop, better that any other pack I have tried and it makes me feel good because it is such a nice comfortable pack. All problems solved. (I have been through 6 different packs in 12 years)
If you need a roomy functional pack try this one. It is money well spent and it might make your day go better.
The Terminal was perfect for my recent trip to Europe. My laptop was easily removed for security checks, the straps and belt were comfortable, and I had plenty of room for my carry-on odds and ends plus some clothes. I used the glasses pocket on top for my extra glasses plus all my receipts. I think the CD pocket on the side would be dangerous for CDs, but it was perfect for checkbooks and notebooks. The water bottle pocket was a necessity. I think the pack might be too big for someone much smaller than me (I'm a 5'4" female), but I loved it.
This is the best backpack I've ever owned. It can carry everthing you need and its construction makes carrying that load quite comfortable. The many pockets allow for organized access to what you need and best of all your laptop is as well protected as it will ever be. GREAT PRODUCT!!!!
I am a flight attendant, so I needed a semi compact bag with plenty of room for my trips. This bag is ideal and has great lap top protection. Not to mention a sleek look to it..
The bag has tons of space, plenty even for oversized law school books and computer paraphenalia. You'll want a smaller bag if you only have a computer, but this is great if you carry more. Very comfortable also, my back thanks me every day.
This is a great bag. The design is excellent. It's streamlined, the construction is flawless, and it's the perfect size. I took a chance on buying this for my boyfriend, he's terribly picky, and he though it was just perfect!
This back pack is the most comfortable bag I have ever owned. My Laptop fits comfortably and snug with out any awkward weight distribution or poking into your back. It has pockets for everything you can think of; the sunglasses pocket is a very nice touch as well. If you dont need this much room than go with the DAKINE 101.
If you need a "largish" bag to tote your laptop, and all your associated crap -- and I've got a lot of associated crap -- this'll be your huckleberry. Be warned, however, this is not a petite carrier for just a laptop and some papers to-and-from work, it's a hauler. Well-made, good ergonomics, a bit "over featured" in that, for example, it may abstractly be appealing to have your laptop in a separately-accessible, separately-zipped pocked, this sort of thing adds weight, complexity, and gimmickery versus a decent internal padded pocked (with top-only access).
This should probably not be the *only* bag you have to carry your laptop; something smaller is still more practical for me, and I continue to use both (this and the smaller bag it replaces). However -- if you need a largish bag for weekend travel + your laptop, this fits the bill quite nicely.
Bag is perfect for school. Nice side pockets. Computer compartment doesn't seem that padded though. I use a computer slip then put my computer in. Finally, the bag is big for someone 5'7.
I use this pack for overnight business travel and for weekends on the boat; big enough for change of clothes and computer/camera gear in both instances. Great pocket for organizing toiletries. Very comfortable to carry/wear. This is exactly what I was looking for.
That bag was everything I was looking for in a backpack. It has class, cosmetically great looking. It was superbly designed with multiple, convenient and functioning compartments. Although it doesn't look too big on the outside it has huge space capacity that is likely to accommodate almost any load. The material it's made of seemed strong/durable. I like my purchase - well worth it. Recommended.
I use this backpack to carry my computer, work files, and a little food. It holds a bunch of stuff and meets size criteria for carry-on luggage. Plenty of useful pockets, including a holder for a water bottle and CDs. Top handle is essential for me. No complaints, although outside pockets are on the small side (so they are okay for accessories but too small for lunch).
Nice, strong, safe Backpack. This backpack is well organized and keeps my new MacBook Pro safe from harm. Comfortable shoulder straps as well, especially important, when waiting those long hours in airports.
This bag has plenty of ways to organize you. In the black color (at least) it's fairly attractive; I carry it all over the city like a dork. Roomy enough for me to carry four books and a slew of other stuff, and still have room left over. Comfy on your shoulders thanks to nice, padded straps. Construction seems sturdy, zippers work well. The laptop sleeve is huge and very well padded. I would definitely buy this bag again.
I used it on a trip to the Big A last weekend from Jamaica and the bag performed to near perfection. Comfortable with pockets for just about everything. Used the fleece-lined sunglasses pocket for my iPodbetter protection. Laptop sleeve could be improved with adjustable inserts for a snugger fit. All in all another great product from DAKINE.
I almost did not buy this pack because one of the reviews said that this pack is almost too big for carry on. I found it perfect for airline travel. It fit under the seat ahead of me and I could easily access anything that I wanted. The best part is the huge padded laptop sleeve that my "boat anchor" Dell Precision can fit into like a glove. Perfect for going through security without dumping everything out. I cut the waist and chest straps off to eliminate dangling things and potential snags. The shoulder straps are very comfortable. I wanted a professional looking bag and my black Terminal is it!
This backpack is for the terminally insane that need everything perfect and in its place. This pack is so killer, it fits everything you need for the skate park, plus makes a great travel bag, fits clothes, shoes and miscellaneous whatnot, from CD's to camera to sunglasses and cell phone. Plus its a great space saver for traveling with a laptop, the side pouch opening to slide your laptop in is perfect. What a versatile backpack. When I need to put my skate shoes, helmet and pads in, it works great all the way to a full travel bag for the weekend press check. I highly recommend this pack for anyone that needs space many different trips. Durable and stylish, I feel like the pro's when I carry this bag.
Rock on! Or ride on the Streets. This bag is thumbs up! In my book! Michael
Excellent purchase. Just got back from an extended stay in the UK. This pack is perfect for travel, and that is the true test for any bag. The main compartment held several large books, my toiletries for the whole trip, and a change of clothes. Easily accessible in the outside 'side' compartments were two cell phones, an ipod, and sunglasses plus all their respective chargers. I am a smaller person, and this was not uncomfortable, even with a wait in customs. I just logged back in to purchase another for someone else I work with.
Dakine has done it again. This pack kick fanny and seems tough. the best part is the deal was so good that I fell like a stole it. It was shipped faster than I could think. Thanks very happy with your services!
The Terminal rules!! I can't believe how easy it is to put away the laptop and take it out..very handy at the airport. There are tons of pockets and it keeps me super organized. It looks cool and doesn't look like a laptop pack. This thing is the best.
backback. He says it is too big for me. This may be true, it is a fairly large pack, but the main point is that this is a great pack for your computer. It won't kill your back like sling packs. The organizers are great for cords and all the other gadgets we carry now.
I've tried several different laptop backpacks. The Da Kine Terminal is far and away the best. The sleeve actually fits bigger laptops and it leaves your laptop suspended just off the bottom of the pack so if you drop it on a concrete floor or something, you won't need to buy a new laptop. Lots of handy pockets for your power cord & spare batteries. There's a pocket on the top for holding sunglasses. It's lined with a soft material so you don't need a sunglass case. Dakine makes great gear. I also recommend the split roller - best duffle bag I've ever owned.
Dakine didn't miss a thing with this pack. Extras abound - fleece lined sunglasses pocket, CD/MP3 player pocket with port, separate and well padded laptop sleeve and EXTRA THICK padded shoulder straps so you don't feel like you're carrying a ton of stuff are just a few things that stand out. It's comfy and looks good. I like the curve fit so it's a smooth fit when you throw it over your shoulder not a stiff daypack feel. Nice work DaKine. I'm stoked!
I wanted to wait a little while before giving my input on this pack to be sure I gave it a fare shake. Using this pack for the past three months, and I only have one issue with this pack; it's a little too large. The laptop sleeve is nice and padded, the internal pockets and sleeves are nicely designed, and I love the sunglasses pouch on to with the soft fabric to protect your lenses. I just don't use all the room, and the pack doesn't really collapse well when you aren't using it.
Sweet bag, lots of great compartments, love the separate divider for papers/magazines/etc. Laptop compartment is super safe and easy access. Only problem is the CD sleeve--I've broken 2 discs that were in there - lame. Otherwise highly recommended.
I bought this pack from the local Radio Shack after doing lots of research and had to pay $90 buck....but hey, no postage. I filled the pack up with more...
