Tipping the scales at a meager 40oz, the DAKINE Tactic Backpack weighs just as much as the liquid courage you have stashed inside this low-profile backcountry pack. With two methods of lugging your boards and a dialed back-access entry, you’ll reach the goods and be able to grab a snack without emptying your bag. Take a quick nip … errr sip from the tube inside the insulated hydro sleeve and thank DAKINE for making room inside the Tactic for your water and an extra layer alongside your safety gear.

Bottom Line: Roll into the back bowls lubed-up and ready to ride.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

Great pack; tho capacity limited

Really like all the features on this pack. Has everything you need for short backcountry tours. Nice to have A-frame and diagonal ski carry options. Like the integrated hydration bladder (not included) and insulated sleeve for the tube on the pack strap. I like that its "clean" and doesn't look to "teched" out. Here are the drawbacks; none of them dealbreakers:

1. Outer pocket for probe and shovel is a tight squeeze for 320 mm probe and shovel handle (i.e., if the pocket was about 1 inch longer, it would be easier to zip it closed.) Outer pocket could be a bit bigger to more easily fit skins for mid-fat skis in, too.

2. The adjustment straps for the wait belt and the shoulder straps seem way too long, unless you have a 40 inch waist and are over 6'6". I am 5'10" and 175 and there is way too much extra.

3. The passageway for the hydration tube is a tight squeeze through the sleeve on the shoulder strap - could be a bit easier to thread. Also, it is not entirely insulated, so perhaps that tube could still freeze up in really could weather?

4. Understanding that this is not supposed to be an overnight pack and that Dakine does offer some packs that are a bit bigger (e.g., Blade), the main compartment will get full with a lunch, an extra layer (e.g., a puffy jacket) and one or two other small items.

It can do the A-frame carry too. Not sure why it isn't listed here.

a good view of how big the pack is. It's pretty substantial for a full-day pack, and hella comfy too.

Great Pack, and very skiier friendly

I finally update my ~9 year old DaKine Heli Pro pack to this one, and I am glad I did. First off, this pack is much more voluminous while still feeling as compact. This pack features two large pockets - once accessed from the front and one from the back. The water reservoir sleeve is attached to the interior lining. Next, all your avy gear can be enclosed within the pack; no more strapping the shovel blade, handle and probe to the outside. I will admit I have not been in a situation where I needed to access this stuff urgently. Nevertheless, I like everything enclosed.
