You’d like to have some back-entry access. DAKINE made the Tactic Backpack with just such access. This means you can get to your gear quickly without having to unclip the front compression straps.

  • Waterproof, fleece-lined waist-belt pocket for digital point-and-shoot
  • Pocket for your shovel, probe, and shovel handle
  • Retractable cable for ski carry reduces loop clutter
  • Fleece-lined goggle pocket protects your lens
  • Insulated reservoir sleeve helps keep your water from freezing

Bottom Line: It’s all in your tactics.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

Hey all! I am trying to find a backpack to fit my daily life; I carry around my macbook pro 15in, sometimes a skateboard, and little gadgets. I also go skiing. I was looking at the Tactic '07 and saw that in the main compartment it has a sturdy insulated bladder sleeve that might accommodate my laptop. The '07 also appears to have waterproof zippers everywhere. Can someone tell me if they both have insulated bladder sleeves, waterproof zippers, and if they have *two* fleece lined pocket (one for goggles and one for camera)? Does it have the horizontal carry system like the Dakine Pro II? Does anyone have a favorite and why?

TO SMALL. I had to upgrade to the BD alias in order to fit backcountry ski gaer in it. Once you get your shovel, probe, some extra layers and lunch in you have no room for skins or any other layers that you will shed on the way up. Ski carry does not hold skis firmly, you can tighten them up but it will just loosen as soon as you try to shoulder the pack. Spend more and get a better pack.
