Is this too big for airlines? Will it be considered oversized?

I have this bag from a couple of years back and I've never been charged anything extra for it. I don't think it crosses any airlines' threshold for oversized.

I just got this bag because I am going to italy for a study abroad. I love the separate compartments on the top part of the bag and the huge compartment on the bottom that has enough room for everything I need to take with me. I have had suitcases before that have had just one compartment and I feel like having the separated top and bottom is going to make travelling a lot easier.

Got my bag and couldn't be happier. Not to big and not to small. A ton of compartments and storage. Lots of handle for hauling.

I am planning a yoga trip to Costa Rica for 2 weeks. Wondering if there is a way to secure my yoga mat with straps to the outside and if this bag will be too large? I do like to pack a lot of stuff. Also I'm assuming it only wheels one way,not staning upright and can wheel in any direction?
Great traveling/studying abroad bag!

This bag was a gret investment. Very well made. Huge compartments. The bottom and top 3 compartments, exposed once you un-zip the bag, are really big and i was able to fit enough clothes for the entire fall semester within them. Smart extras, like clips and tons of handles. I did about 2 months of research and i know for sure that Backcounty.com has the best price out there!! Best bag ever!

Easy to handle. It is so big I had 7 kilos extra weight, but that was because I also bought some heavy things. BUt you can fit a lot of things in this suitcase. One of the comments I had read in the reviews was that if pockets side is not full they will be very lose, but I thought this was great for making my packing easy. Probably looks prettier loaded than empty. I did not mind it. Seems to be going to be a sturdy one. So I am happy with the purchase. I think I should have gone for a bit smaller one, though. Other than that, no regrets.

This looks to large to check in for airlines - Do they consider this oversize????
Dave Marcus

It's close. US Airways considers 62 linear inches to be oversize and this is 62.5". Delta starts at 63". Jetblue and United at 62".
You could probably get away with it unless you really stuff the bag, but it will also be easy to stuff it until it's over the weight limit as well.
Consider leaving the industrial-strength hair dryer at home.
So far so good!

I purchased this bag right before leaving for Africa. I went on many planes, trains, cars and it held up well.
The compartments inside were very nice to have, especially when I didn't have any laundry service!
Love the design and the look of the bag.
My one negative thought was when I was wheeling it around I noticed it was heavy on my arm. It is more vertical than what I am used to, so the weight distribution was different.
Love it.

I'm a huge fan of dakine luggage, but this bag is awesome! It's huge and the color is very cool, it's more purple than it shows in the picture. I'm leaving for a month and can fit everything in here!
Awesome!

I just got back from a 2-week overseas trip with this bag.
Pros: The bottom is hard, which will protect anything you don't want super squished. The top is soft, which will allow flexibility in packing. It's separated into compartments - one big one on the bottom and 3 smaller ones in the lid (plus the two external pockets in the lid). There are 4 handles not including the telescoping handle to roll the bag. This made it really easy to pick up and walk down flights of stairs where there weren't elevators and to pick up and throw it up in a train. There are 2 straps with quick release buckles that let you tighten down the load.
Cons: If the bag isn't full, the soft top is floppy which makes it difficult to tighten down the straps enough to secure the load. If the internal compartments aren't full the stuff shifts around because there aren't any straps inside to hold stuff, only the mesh compartment lids that zip.
Overall: I would definitely recommend this bag! I have 3 Dakine bags now, and they are all top quality material and construction. The awesome colors and patterns are a huge bonus and being able to buy last year's at a nice discount is icing on the cake!
Great bag!

hi
I own two older versions of the bag, I use it for work and travel and love the bags. My question is reading other reviews is the zipper going around the outside of the bag still there. Another review said it was not it was just being held together by the straps.
Thanks

If you need a decent water resistant bag, you will be better off with the The North Face Rolling Thunder Duffel.

We gave this split large roller bag to our teenage daughter as a gift and she LOVES it. We just need to make sure it doesn't weigh over 50 lbs to avoid the excess luggage charge with the airlines. The bag is nice and duarable! The extra pink on the bag helps it stand out from the rest of the black luggage at the airport!!

I'm trying to decide whether to buy the large or the small. Any advice?

The large bag is very large so if you are only traveling for a few days and don't need to take a lot of stuff, the overhead luggage is plenty big for that kind of trip. Our teenage daughter tends to overpack when we go on vacation so she loves the large bag.
