The Siren song sounds just right.
The Dakine Siren Short with removable chamois liner falls high on our list of all-time great women's freeride shorts. It's tough to fault a freeride short with the versatility of a removable, anti-microbial liner, an adjstable waist, and stretch panels. But, once you add in an updated women-specific fit, you've won us over.
The most obvious plus for the Siren short is its removable Women's Comp liner Short with the Dolomiti women-specific chamois. The moisture-wicking, four-way stretch short can be used with any of the shorts in your closet. The gusseted crotch, rear stretch panel, and adjustable waist tabs give you the fit and freedom you need, and special patterning at the knees is designed to fit over your pads.
A large stretch panel at the rear of the short provides an unlimited range of motion and adds to the short's durability. There are also a ton of pockets to take care of your valuables. The Dakine Siren Short comes in sizes Small through X-Large. It's available in Monaco, Lime, and Black.

Cute and functional!
- Gender: Female
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
Have two pairs of these - love the bright blue and green colors. I cut out the liners (just don't prefer liners when mtb'ing, these liners look nice though) which was a snap. The shorts are light, breezy and accommodating. I like the deep pockets for chapstick etc. I'm 5'8 '' 135 lbs (a bit hippy) and went with the size large and they fit perfectly. I've had several other pairs of Dakine shorts and these ones hit just a tad lower - at the back of my knee which is nice. Only draw back to the light colors (namely the green) is the dirt from the saddle that gets on them - requires a hand wash to get them fully clean.
Great color, nice fit
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
These shorts fit loose for aggressive biking but sleek enough that I feel fine wearing them to the coffee shop afterwards. Nice length, color (Monaco Blue), and textured weave. Lightweight but durable. Chamois was great - didn't realize how worn down my old one was. My only complaint is that the pockets are really deep and hard to get sweaty, sticky hands into. The pocket liner also comes out with the object I retrieved when my hands are hot and sticky or I have gloves on.
Tall in the waist
I wasn't crazy about the way the chamois fit and the rise of the outer short was too tall for my taste anyway, so I sent them back. For reference I'm 173lbs, 5'5" and would generally wear an XL in dakine shorts if their rises weren't so tall.
