Try not to have excessive expectations about the Prom ... it's still just a backpack.

DAKINE Prom 25L Backpack - Women's
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I've used it everyday since i got it and there is no sign of wear yet.
It fits my 15+ inch macbook in it, with it's case (which is apparently a lot to ask from a backpack).
I like how you can store away the water bottle pocket (although i always have a water bottle on me so I have yet to do that).
My favorite pocket though is the top "sunglass pouch". I honestly just use it for my car keys, headphones, phone, and gum. It is a musth have pocket when I buy a backpack.
DAKINE Prom Backpack - Women's 1500cu in
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
The bag feels great on your back. Has plenty of pockets for storage. And the laptop compartment seems to be protective. At first I thought the front cooler pocket was dumb. But I've used it to keep snacks cool and have since changed my mind. The side pocket that expands is big enough to hold a Nalgene. The pocket at the top is accessible even if you are wearing the backpack so is a great place for keys. I'm very satisfied with this bag.
I purchased a peacock print prom pack about two years ago, which has maintained its "brand new" look. This is by no means a small backpack, as the dimensions so obviously state.
Any backpack that has a laptop compartment tends to be bigger than the typical Jansport bag.
I completely recommend this backpack especially for college students. The straps are padded and sit comfortably on the shoulders without causing any strain. Two mesh pockets on either side of the backpack are perfect for carrying bottles around campus. My 14" laptop fits so snug in the sleeve compartment and still leaves plenty of room in the rest of the bag for 1-2 textbooks and a 2" binder.
The fleece-lined sunglasses pocket is my favorite feature, it fits my sunglasses and iphone perfectly without worrying about them getting scratched or squished since the pocket is located on the top of the backpack!
Oh, and it's not water-resistant but I've never had a problem with water leaking into my backpack when it's pouring on campus.
Great school backpack!
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
I picked this up for my 9 year old daughter for back to school. She picked it out, and she absolutely adores it. The front pocket cooler is rad, too.
Cute but large!
This backpack is really huge! Way too big for my 14 year old freshman to carry in high school. A smaller version of this same backpack would have been a good choice, but we bought a smaller, O'Neill backpack that is perfect. Shipping costs to/from should prohibit you from buying from Backcountry.com if in doubt! Very high...
DAKINE Prom Backpack - Women's
Great for high school
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This will be great for my senior school daughter who carries too many books and sometimes her laptop too. Excellent assortment and arrangement of pockets and sleeves, sometimes padded for protection or insulation. Looks sturdy but too soon to say (YKK zips are always a good sign). Highly recommended.
DaKine Prom Pack!
Got this for my fourteen year old. She loves it!. It has great room. love the front organizer pocket. Water bottle pocket is extremely large. soft eye glass case for contact days and touch screen phone saftey is great bounus! We have broke an L.L Bean every year. This looks like it will last till college! could not be happier!
Way to go Dakine!
I bought this for my 7th grade daughter and she absolutely loves it! She loves the great look of the material, the soft lined pockets, the side pocket with bottle net (surprise!), roomy big pocket, padded laptop pocket, and super padded back and shoulder straps. I love the amazing quality of this bag. We have previously only purchased Jansport bookbags and Dakine blows them away! We will definitely buy Dakine again.

I know this backpack is not waterproof, but would it hold up in wet snow and rain trekking across campus?
600D Polyester is somewhat water resistant, so light moisture will bead off, but it will inevitably begin to absorb some water with heavier rain/snow. Probably good enough to make it between buildings without destroying your sociology paper contained within.
