Description

A split personality and it expands its storage to gobble up all your expensive gear? Sounds like an ex.

You already separated the DAKINE Over Under Rolling Gear Bag so that it'll fit in the overhead compartment, but now you have all these duty-free goodies that you bought during your layover. Never fear, just use this bag's expandable compartment and gain 900 cubic-inches of storage quickly. Whew ... that was a close one, but not as close as your next flight is going to be when you land. Just grab the Over Under's retractable handle, set the urethane wheels on the ground, and sprint to the next gate just in time to make your final connection to Kazakhstan.

Kickass & Bombproof

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased the Dakine Over Under Rolling Gear Bag (in Nebula colorway-so sick!) for my birthday about a month ago (unfortunately after traveling across the country). Since then, it's come on every trip with me: tossed in the hatch of the Subaru full of snowboarding gear as we trekked through winter storm Pax to ride, packed with nice clothes staying at the girlfriend's parents house.

It makes traveling and packing an utter breeze & makes me look like I'm flying in total style.
Things I love:

- Thick wheels (not just rollerblade wheels, these things are buttery smooth and can take some rough travel)
- Lifetime Warranty (I never expect to have an issue with this bag, but know Dakine will take care of it)
- The BADASS colorway (Nebula pattern), it's flashy enough to show some style but still makes enough of a professional impact when I travel on business
- The expandable compartment (Haven't had to fully use it yet, but love it)
- Thick, beefy construction and stitching. Nothing feels like it will come off... EVER

Cons:
None as I can see.
People are complaining about "being forced to gate check" this bag...
That's ridiculous, some small regional jets I've had to check a backpack. Don't use that as a reason to not buy this bag.

Does this bag have internal compartments...

Does this bag have internal compartments or split level packing?

Awesome.

Yeah you have to gate check it but so what? It still qualifies as a carry-on (as in you don't have to check it before security) and your bag is sure to make the connection. I don't understand all these people giving this bag a poor rating because it has to be gate checked...the dimensions are listed on the left side of your screen people, use a tape measure, figure it out. This bag is great, makes great use of space and is very durable. I've owned a bag which you didn't have to gate check and it was pain to fit everything in there and I usually had to leave stuff behind. A+ bag...my only gripe is that I spent 130 bucks on it and now its on sale for 98!!!

Good bag but big for a carry on

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is a great bag however it must be gate checked on smaller aircraft. The last time I used this bag, I flew from Denver to Cincinnati on a CRJ-700. There was no way it was fitting in the overhead bin and the bag wasn't expanded. Just something to keep in mind if you do a lot of travelling on regional type jets.

Love it!

I love Dakine products and this one is well built like the others. Rolls easily, large capacity but still fits overhead without a problem. I haven't used the extended portion yet but nice to know I have the option. Great price and looks great. Would be nice to have a few more internal compartments to separate things but it wouldn't stop me from buying it.

Great value for the price

I looked for a while for a carry-on that would be big enough and durable enough for travel a couple of times per month. So far this carry-on has had plenty of space and done the job. I have not yet had issues with it fitting in the overhead.

Too big for carry on, and tips over

While the bag looks cool, and handles pretty well, it is too big for carry on. Several times, on different airlines, I have been forced to check the bag at the gate because they say the bag is too big. When stuffed full, even without the expander zipper open, I've had to forcibly shove the bag into the overhead. Also, the bag tips over forwards very, very easily.

Perfect carryon

This bag is the perfect carry-on for airplanes. With this I have been able to bring everything I need for weekend business trip to a weeklong ski trip (When combined with the Hi Roller from Dakine). The Over-Under is the work horse of my luggage doing double and triple duty covering everything from vacations, to work trips to weekends at the in laws.
The expandable feature adds a considerable amount of space and although most airlines wont allow it expanded during the check-in process, it has come in handy many times when moving from resort to resort or weekend car trips. I have flown with this bag over 20 times and NEVER have I had a problem having it allowed as a carry-on when not expanded, even if it is stuffed to the brim.
The wheels are durable and the handle is a comfortable height.
If you are getting one bag for travel to pair with a ski or snowboard bag...this is it.

Great bag! I didn't know what I was missing!

I was driving cross country from South Dakota to California to go take care of my dad, who was in the hospital in Newport Beach. It was a two day drive, and I stayed the layover night in Breckenridge, CO at a buddy's house. I vaguely remembered a store in Breck that carried luggage, and found the store, and this bag! My only regret was I was crunched for time, and didn't buy it off of Backcountry.com!

This bag is great! I WAS using my firefighter turnout bag previously when I went on trips. Boy, I didn't know what I was missing with being organized, and being able to find my things quickly! The compartments in this bag are great. They keep things really organized. I was able to fit a weeks worth of clothes in there, along with my toiletry bag, cell phone charger, reciepts from the trip, etc.

I purchased this in the Phantom colorway, and I love it. I like this bag so much, as soon as I got home, I ordered the matching Groomer bag, and plan on buying the matching board bag and bigger suitcase from backcountry.com when I can! You can't go wrong with Dakine products! Buy this! You won't regret it!

best bag EVER

I am a flight attendant and have been for 35+ years and this is by far the best bag I have ever owned.....it will hold everything....I fly international so I need a lot of clothes and need to have room for treats to bring home, so this is the one......and it is squishy so it fits even when it looks like there is no way!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the best part it is light weight.....this is the BEST !!!!

What's the difference between this and the...

What's the difference between this and the other 3000 over under gear bag? Besides the price.
Thanks.
