dekine heli winter backpack 660 cu.in

I got this awsome pack this summer and used it twice for day hikes. It has plenty of room for extra water (I carried 4 liters of water for my dog--he's a big dog) and still has plenty of room for snacks and a light hoodie. The lay-out of the pack makes it very versitile.Really looking forward to doing backcountry hiking this winter. It can carry my 25 in. snowshoes or my snowboard and trecking poles with no problem, plus a 2 liter camelback bladder fits nicely. With both waist and chest straps, it is super comfortable, almost don't know its there. Best purchase since my Dakine wet/dry surf pack. Thanks Dakine! Thanks Dogfunk!

Most sports or outdoor stores have hydration bladders. CamelBak bladders are the best.

too long

This bag has great features and plenty of room for all the essentials. Only thing is it was too long for my torso. I am 5'6" and consider myself to have an average sized torso but when I put this bag on it hit me high on the back of my neck and very low on my lower back. If you are taller than me, go for it! If you are shorter it probably won't work for you.

Is there a trick to quickly/easily loading skis onto this thing? Currently, I have to take it off to put the skis on, but was wondering if it can be done on the fly without taking the pack off?

Responded on

Theoretically its possible if you were to use the diagonal carry. The trick would be getting the tail of your skis through the loop while its behind you and then fastening the top strap. In all reality, its simply faster to take the pack off, sling the skis, and then start up the slope!

No probe specific pocket

Perfect for side jaunts under the ropes, you don't want to be one of those dudes heading out of bounds with out at least a shovel a probe and a beacon. Could probably handle trips into the backcountry if you pack light, there isn't much room for more than a liter or two in a bladder a shovel a probe some cliff bars a down sweater and spare set of gloves. Only downside really is no probe specific pocket.

Great day pack

Enough room to hold extra layers, or a dry change of clothes, food and snacks, water with separate bladder and hose. The suspension padding for your back is great when you have skis and boots hanging off the pack, and it doesn't slouch on your coat. Perfect for small adventures off piste or just keeping comfortable during a day at the resort.

Does this pack have a hydration zip pocket on the shoulder strap to keep the water in the tube from freezing?

Responded on

The Dakine website has that in its specs, so yes, it should.

Responded on

Yes it does on the left strap.

Great Pack for boarding!

I bought this pack for mostly everyday, get around pack. Fits everything in and fits snug. Does not bulge at all, the inside pocket is great for phone/wallet/keys etc.. The pack can fit the necessitates for every day or riding for sure. I took it up boarding and it worked better than I imagined. The board stayed put on the pack, was extremely comfortable, and did not cause pain on shoulders from the weight of the board. It fit my camera, snacks, and extra jacket in as well. It did take some maneuvering, but worked out great in the end. This pack is definitely a good choice for a fairly inexpensive pack that will exceed it's limitations in what ever it needs to do.

Perfect out-of-bounds resort bag

I've had this pack for going on 3 years now. It has help up to anything and everything. It still looks brand new and trust me I've put it through quite a bit. It's big enough to house your essentials while out-of-bounds at a ski resort. Yet, small enough so it doesn't look like you are going to go camping at the resort. I use this bag for everything, school, hikes, skiing, etc. Extremely durable, convenient, and very practical for those who want a bag to carry their essentials up onto the mountain.
