Excellent Bag

By:

Had a helipro 2 and wanted something bigger. This bag is perfect, plus it compacts down really well when not full. Also has all the good ski related features that many other general purpose packs lack

Am Interested in getting a backpack this size but cannot see

Am Interested in getting a backpack this size but cannot see where I would strap my snowboard. I have owned several dakine packs in the past and it is usually pretty obvious.
Can anyone help me out??

the photo isn't very good but there is a side compression strap that can be used for vertical carry. I would suggest the dakine blade, for its horizontal carry system. I've found the larger the pack the more the board flops around even fully loaded with a vertical carry. Also check out the mountainsmith 35L or 45L packs.

Lifetime=5 years for dakine

By:
March 25, 2011

I had the older model. Used for five years. I really enjoyed the features despite the weight. Unfortunately my board carry straps whilst I was traversing a ridge line in a high wind. I sewed up the rip and seamed sealed it so I continue the season, thinking that dakine would honor their LIFETIME warranty. So July came around and the corn was turning to deep suncups so I payed for the shipping to send it back to dakine. Well that turned out to be a big waste of time and money because they sent it back to me with no explanation on why they would not warranty the pack. The board carry ripped from wind. This is supposed to be a guide pack and the mountains are known to be windy. Wish Dakine would honor their words because I loved that pack.

It says it has a vertical snowboard carry, but in the picture

It says it has a vertical snowboard carry, but in the picture I'm just not seeing it.
Am thinking of ordering this and trying out. I'm concerned on the size as I'm 5'9 145lbs. Is it free shipping to return?

Hey, It does have the vertical snowboard carry and I'm 5'3 and 121lbs. I love this pack for bc trips especially multidays. It seems to fit me well as I have a longer torso and has the capacity to carry anything I could possibly need...
hope that helps

I bought it. Fits fine on my slender frame. Not sure why people were saying it's for bigger frames. I need it for overnighters which is why I wanted this much room.

The vertical cary is the two flaps on the sides... They have straps attached to them... It its there... This pack would be pretty huge for a person your size... I'm 6ft, 160lbs and have the Blade pack and it's pretty big on me and it's about 1300 cu in less volume....

DAKINE Guide Backpack

By:
February 18, 2011

I like the pack. Bought it because it had lots of places to stash stuff. Not everyone wants the weight that comes with these features.
Pros: Well built, decent weight for all the features, access thru the back of the pack keeping snow from getting on your back when you put it back on. Good A frams carry for skis.
Cons: outside (large) pocket for shovel, etc not tall enough to fit my snow saw, cannot figure out where the straps are for snowboard carry (but I don't snowboard), would like outside crampon/skin pouch (or at least a spot to strap crampons down) side pouches good idea but not big enough for wide skins, ice ax loop too large, spot to strap down helmet as it is on and off all day and I don't want to dig into the pack every time, vertical ski carry - where strap down at top? no strap provided for this, but I made it work. Conclusion.I still like the pack, but if you are going to build a full featured pack and add that weight, do it!
