    Ensuring mobility.

Dakine designed the Derail Shorts for riding in the mountains, while wearing pads, by giving them a generous cut around the knees. This lets them play nicely with hard- and soft-shell pads during both the climb and descent.

The shorts are constructed from a four-way stretch, double-knit nylon and spandex blend to provide the strength and mobility playing in the woods demands. And for those in wetter climates, a durable water repellency (DWR) treatment keeps the Derails from being saturated by wet vegetation or light rainfall. For storage, the shorts feature a zippered side pocket and two front hand pockets.

The Dakine Derail Shorts come in even sizes from 30 to 38 and in the color Charcoal.

    Huh?

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

These things are a joke. The inseam is way too short. Where are they getting 15"? As others stated it's more like 13" which falls into "Daisy Dukes" territory....I have a pair of of Ridge shorts from a couple years ago and even they have a longer inseam. I was hoping these would make a good pair of winter shorts but I really find them appalling. Usually love Dakine stuff but I'll pass on these...

    nice riding shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

first off I would agree with other reviews and suggest sizing up one. The fit while riding (once you get the size right) is great, easy to move around in, no restrictions. I got the Morrocan size and the color was just very slightly brighter than the picture.

The "charcoal black" is actually brown

Really thought I was getting a grey color like the photo but it is nott even close. It is a very brown color over grey. DO NOT BE DECEIVED BY THE PHOTO! I attached the photo of the short next to some grey 5.10 shoes and black background just so it shows how its brown. I would also like to add that the material is kind of so so, I have had an older pair of dakine shorts for 4 years and no issues, these ripped a huge hole after just a few rides, I am very disappointed in this product, but I still love Dakine.

      Hips Don't Lie

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

For once, I was able to put on a pair of baggies without feeling constricted at all. The free ride fit of these leaves a bit more room in the hips and allows complete freedom!!! They seem to run a bit small, as what others have said as well, I still stuck with my normal size that I've worn in Dakine and they fit wonderfully. The stretch factor is also AMAZING

      Go a size up

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs small

I agree with @Heckler, they fit small so go a size up. This is my 3rd pair of Dakine shorts so I am familiar with how they fit. They used to size the shorts Med: 32-34, Lrg: 34-36, etc. and now they just call it 34 or 36. I wear a 34 waist and bought the 36 and used the velcro waist adjustment just a bit and they were perfect. The material has changed this year and I really like the way it looks and feels but time will tell how it holds up over a year of riding.

      Measurements are Off

The description states that these shorts have a 15" inseam. My pair measured 13.5". I wear a size 32 waste. I ordered a 32 and even with the Velcro adjustment let out all the way, the shorts are still a little snug.
