Awesome Jacket

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

I bought this item as a gift for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it. For a guy that is capable of destroying just about everything gear wise, this jacket seems to be hanging in there. The jacket is durable enough that he has yet to scuff it while ripping through he trees, yet light weight enough that it can be used in spring conditions while still being warm enough for full winter (with a base layer as this is just a shell). It offers solid ventilation for those warmer day touring/hiking (he was stoked that the vents were set a bit forward actually drawing in air while you walk), the fabric is very waterproof, and the coat offers nice additional features. I was wary of Dakine at first as I was not as familiar with the durability of their apparel products, but I am pleased with my purchase at this time.

Fell apart and Dakine wont replace

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The zipper on this $400 jacket broke after a year (I've probably worn it 20 times). I sent it back to Dakine and they confirmed it was defective and covered under their warranty. However, they wont provide me with a new jacket until JULY -- apparently they ran out of jackets (?). It's early March and there are 2 more months left in the ski season. There are jackets available through Dakine retailers, but the company has refused to get me one or otherwise help me out. They basically said too bad - we can send you back the broken jacket and you can "jerry-rig" it to get you through the rest of the season - are you kidding me??? Before you buy Dakine gear be aware that they do not always stand by their products. If you're going to buy expensive gear buy it through Patagoina or North Face because they do stand by their products.

Clutch in the Clutch

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Jacket works great in all conditions! I have used it in snow storms and was very good at shedding snow and water. I layerd it with a down jacket on a -15 below morning at Sunday River and performed excellent . It is my go to for skinning in the white mountains or around my neighborhood with my daughter and dog. And for the price it is worth it comparable tech shells usually run in the 600 -800 $ range......... Great buy for the money

I am 5'9" 210 and bought a XL

The black jacket is last years product!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Prior to purchasing this jacket I noticed that the image for the black jacket was different than the other colors shown and appeared to be last years model of the Dakine Clutch Jacket. So I jumped on the expert chat and asked about it. The so called gear expert "Jeremy M." assured me that all of the different colors of the jacket were the same so I went ahead and ordered it. Low and behold when my order arrived I discovered that the black jacket they had sent me was in fact last years model of the Dakine Clutch Jacket that matched the image on the website. I'm not too surprised about the gear expert not knowing what he was talking about but what bothered me was that for whatever reason Backcountry.com is trying to pass last years product off as the current model and charge top-dollar for it as well. As for the jacket, it's great if you want last years product in black, otherwise I would suggest ordering a different color. I returned mine and ordered from another retailer.

SNOW TIME!

Aloha!
I received my DaKine Clutch Jacket (Pacific) approximately two weeks ago, and upon opening it, I knew it was the "one." I've owned both Volcom and Columbia jackets and couldn't be more content with this purchase.
It does run a little baggy, but not too much considering I'm only 5'6" 150-160lbs.
I tried a size SM first, but when zipped up it was snugged from my upper back to mid-back when crossing my arms over each other (as if hugging). When raising both arms, the length on the arm of jacket slid down to my wrist-watch which I didn't feel comfortable with.
I then ordered a size M. Upon zipping it up, it felt more roomy everywhere. My upper to mid-back was not snugged at all, both arms raised up (length of sleeve rested right at my wrist) which is more comfortable. Considering my height/weight, the length of the jacket on the backside sits in the middle of my okole (butt - in Hawaiiain).
Overall, this jacket is a must have if you're looking for great protection, quality, and style. I hope my review will help others in making the right decision, that's going Dakine!

Great technical shell, fit a bit baggy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It's a great shell. No water got in when I used it on rainy/snowy days (even when snow was building up on it and melting), and I was never clammy inside after a hard run. The feel of the outer is a really nice durable stretch.

Being just a shell, you need to layer up if you run cold. It doesn't do much to stop the cold coming in (though it obviously breaks the wind).

The fit is pretty baggy. I'd normally be somewhere between M and L, but due to availability, I tried my luck with an S. While a little shorter than ideal, I can layer quite a lot under it. An M would have been a better length but would be getting a bit floaty.

And what is your size, becouse im aim looking for M size.

Just got it in the mail

Broke my elbow riding this spring, so the season is over for me. Bought the jacket for next season, but I figured I'd post a review since their wasn't one yet. I've had tech jackets (arcteryx) and stylish jackets (sessions), but always wanted the best of both worlds. This one kinda does the job. It seams like quality fabric, not quite as light as a technical shell, but definitely looks tough, waterproof, and flexible. I'm stoked to have an mp3 pocket (my arteryx didn't have one) but probly didn't need two interior pockets. I'm 5'-11", 165 lbs with somewhat longer arms. I bought the large and it looked stupid big on me. Whiskey was cool and let me return it for a medium, which is still not as fitted as my other tech shells but that's ok. Only bummer is the hand gators don't fit. I also am not a huge fan of the separate hood/collar situation. Maybe it functions good in a storm, but it doesn't look as good as a normal hoody style hood IMO.

Responded on

How long is it in the back? I'm 5'8 and looking for something that doesn't hang past my butt. Thanks in advance!

Responded on

It's fairly long in the back. If you're 5'-8" a Medium would definitely be hangin low on you....You could try a small. As an update; I've ridden a few times this year and the jacket and it seems to work well. The smaller mp3 pocket ripped (a little at the corner) when my headphone cord tried to pull through it. It's a bummer, but the hole just goes thru to the other mp3 pocket.

Responded on

Im the same size as you but a bit heavier 84 kg. Will M fit me?

Responded on

It should fit. Mine is a little loose on me. Like I said, my arms were a little long for the wrist gaiters. They still kinda work, but I can't put my thumbs through them without the sleeves feeling tight. Not a biggie tho

Responded on

I want to buy this jacket, but I'm a little skeptical considering you said the mp3 pocket ripped a bit at the corner. Does the fabric seem cheap? I'm pretty hesitant buying it considering it's expensive. But if you think it's worth the money, I'll take it into consideration. Really want a good shell and the jacket does look appealing with the color and capabilities.
