Hey,

I have an older Heli pro and its a bit worn out and I was thinking of getting something with a bit more space etc. I'm a skier and like the diagonal/vertical carry on the Heli-pro, does the blade have the option to carry the skis on the back like that?

Thanks for your help

Perfect for day missions!

By:

This pack is perfect for everyday backcountry snowboarding... All your essentials fit in the shovel pocket and the main compartment has tons of room for jacket's gloves, skins etc.... The flip to will easily hold 2 pairs of goggles and extra gloves/beanies... Then the ski carry mode is great when it gets too steep to skin and you need to boot it... When it's that steep, switching your splitboard back to snowboard mode sucks.... just easier to strap on the skis and deal with it when you get to the top... Mine is four years old and has easily 200 days in the backcountry and is still going strong!

Out of curiosity, why do you need 2 pair of goggles in the BC?

How well does the vertical snowboard carry work? I've used

How well does the vertical snowboard carry work? I've used the Dakine Heli and it was not supportive enough; the top of the board flopped forwards and backwards and I had to tie it off with some webbing, which sort of worked. Would this pack be supportive enough or should I go with something with an internal frame like the Dakine Poacher?

Hey Scott,
The Poacher is always going to give you the ultimate support for vertical snowboards, but the blade is definitely going to be a huge step up from the Heli. The blade is 7 inches taller than the Heli and I find that the more you load the pack, the better it supports the board in vertical carry mode. Hope this helps!

Good day tripper

This bag is the perfect size for those backcountry day trips. It has space for all the emergency gear you (should) carry; plus it's big enough to fit the extras. It has space for a camel back bladder, and has a few different waterproofed pockets for maps and a camera and such, and plenty of quick access spots for your emergency gear. Plus, it has the option to do horizontal or vertical carry for boards, which is always nice to have options so you can adjust for the situation.

Good pack for BC

By:
February 9, 2010

This is a pretty nice pack for backcountry excursions. It carries all my avy gear, snow saw, first aid kid, a few extra layers, and *still* has room for more stuff. The padded goggle pocket is nice, as is the accessory pocket up top - allowing you to stash gear for quick access.

I had some difficulty using the hydration sleeve with my camelback. I had to take the "L" valve off to get the tube all the way through. I also wasn't happy with the fact that the hydration bladder isn't segregated from the rest of your gear; it's just one large pocket.

All in all, this is a great pack. A bit large for inbounds use, but it'll take you anywhere you need to go.

Hit the slopes ALL DAY

By:

Good backpack for carrying on the slopes all day. Also good for carrying skis diagonally across back. Used this backpack for 2 years but wanted to upgrade to a bag which carries boots instead of skis. Useful TOP and BACK loading options. Also, waterproof camera holster on belt is great.
