I will not run without them, I wear them skiing when Im skiing consecutive days and I occasionally wear them biking. Ive been running without them and my lower back and knees remind me never to do it again. I highly recommend them.
Hi Everyone- Please note, this new 2011 reflective version of the CW-X Stabilyx Tight is almost exactly the same as the existing version. You can read reviews here. http://www.backcountry.com/cw-x-stabilyx-tight-mens-cwx0039 The main new feature is what CW-X calls 360 degree reflective. There are 4 strategically placed reflective flash strips on the tights that show up at night and in the early AM during those early morning or night runs. Check these new Reflective Stabilyx Tights out and if you already own a pair of the old ones, maybe think about getting an additional pair for running at dusk and dawn. Cheers.
Jim, I don't think that question can really be answered. They serve different purposes and requirements. These are a very good all-around tight for milder weather or under a layer in cold temps.

Looks like I'm in no man's land on the sizing chart... inbetween a medium and large. I'm just over 6 feet and 174 pounds. Longer but skinnier legs. Any advice between the two sizes? Thanks.
Did you make the purchase yet? If not, you can definitely go with either size. I am 5'11 and 165 and I wear a medium. I have slightly skinnier legs and if I went to a large the tights just feel slightly looser. However if you had big quads, hamstrings, calves, etc you would be best served with a large. Good luck
Ok, so the 4 star rating is for the increased knee stability and perceivably increased endurance (5 stars if the compression was a little higher -- I fit squarely in the 'large' and would prefer a little more leg squeeze). I originally got these for snowboarding and there is something that is entirely outside of the design of the tight but something potential buyers should know (if you ski and snowboard). The slick nature of tights cause socks to bunch down over time. I used these my first time out with some smartwool ski socks. Got blisters on my heels. Switched out to Icebreaker socks and at the same time had switched to the 3/4 insulator -- no blisters entire season. Got warmer, went back to the full tight and, once again, sock bunching and blisters. My assumption is that the 3/4 gives you enough leg to hold the socks up and keep from bunching. This has happened with snow board boots and will probably happen with ski boots as well. Temp is going down this week so I'll be back in the 3/4 insulator, so I'll update if there is this doesn't hold up (same pair of socks). But if you're looking at the full for snow sports...go with the 3/4.
I wear these skiing and I also wear Smartwool socks. However, what you describe here does not happen to me and I've been very happy with fit and performance. It sounds to me like you have boot fit problem.
I need some advice... I'm planning to buy a pair of CW-X Stability Tights for my brother.. he's about 5'10-5'11 and about 175-180lbs and a 32" waistline. I'm wondering whether I should get him a medium or large. Any thoughts?
You just described me....... get the medium. The large will be a little long in the leg and the stabilyx bands will ride low at the knees. At least that is true for me..... I have a 32" inseam. Hope this helps
Hey There. Your brother is in between sizes. If he has really skinny legs then go for the medium. Otherwise go with large. I am 5'11 and 163 and I wear a Medium. However most people that are over 175lbs, we typically recommend a large size. Especially if they have strong/big legs. Good luck.
I purchased these for skiing and the occasional biking. I have had some problems with my knees in the past and thought these might help. I was pretty skeptical but i figured what the heck if they didnt work i could return them. They fit just like compression pants and after two days of skiing on them i had no knee pain, which is when i would normally start to feel it. On the fourth day when i normally would take a day off i was still going strong. That little added support really helped me and i would reccommend these to anyone with joint problems in their legs (if they dont help then backcountry will take them right back).
NOTE: Im 5'11" 170lbs athletic build and i went with the MEDIUM which fits great.
I'm 5'8, 175 with short legs and ended up going with a Small. This was primarily due to the local ski shop selling these 50% off because they didn't want to carry them anymore, and the store being out of Mediums (my buddy bought the last 3 they had). That said, the small seems to fit well, just quite snug. I have an athletic build, but strong legs for my small size. The Small makes the knee supports land dead on my kneecaps, and even though they're snug, I think Small was the best choice for me.
For this much reasonable price, compared to ZXU for instance, you get tights of great quality. Not sure if the compression really has an impact, although they look and feel good, even after been washed a couple of times, which isn´t bad. Highly recommendable.
