You aren't afraid of a challenge, but you aren't adverse to taking a little boost when you can get one either. The CW-X Women's Insulator Stabilyx Tights help your muscles and joints work their best by giving support where it's needed and increasing blood flow to bolster performance.

  • Kinesio Support Web adds stability to key areas like your lower back and knees while increasing circulation to outlying areas
  • Auto-Sensor breathable, wicking fabric adjusts to your body's heat outputs by pulling excess heat away or keeping if you start to cool off; it's a thermostat for your legs
  • Silver and titanium antibacterial treatments keep your tights from getting funky
  • Windproof, water-resistant DiAplex panels protect the front of your legs from the oncoming elements
  • Flat seam construction means less chafing, which can be a lifesaver on long runs
  • Compression technology also helps you recover faster by reducing inflammation and lactic acid buildup

Bottom Line: Nothing wrong with getting an edge.

Warm soft support!!

Just got back from a trail run on this cold fall day and I must say that I'm in love with these tights. The combination of warm soft material plus the snug support makes it feel like you are being hugged by a soft cuddly bear while your running. They are wonderful!!!

Theses CW-X Insulator Stabilyx Tights are great. I think that the sizing is pretty accurate unless you have skinny chicken legs like me. I had to return my tights for a smaller size in order to get that tight, stabilizing fit that these tights were made for.

CW-X Insulator Stabilyx Tight

By:
November 4, 2009

I am a big fan of the Stabilyx Tight line. It's not because I am weak or old. It's the technology of the tight that make you endure for a longer and more strenuous training. The tight allows each leg muscle groups to have better circulation and with the insulation sensors, it keeps me running in very cold and difficult weather. I wish there is a top that have similar technology to keep me warm. In addition, it does vaporize the sweat from inside out. I especially love the knee wrap design, which stabilize the knee joints. The most unbelievable thing is that, some mornings I work out without it, then I put it on for evening training. The soreness from the morning workout goes away faster with the tight on. Try it & you will know what I am talking about.

Sue's size info and feedback

By:

5'4, 128#, running and alpine skiing - size small is perfect. These make a big difference in knee comfort after running or skiing. Wore full length, over the socks without problem. Warm enough under shell on a 25 - 30 degree day. Don't know about colder days, yet.

Would these tights be warm enough for cold weather crew (rowing)

Would these tights be warm enough for cold weather crew (rowing) training? I am looking to buy some tights for my daughter who is 5' 5" and 130-135. She just about froze this fall on the water while training in UA coldgear tights? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am using the Expert model (un-insulated) for rowing in our Northern California winter. I would highly recommend them for the sport, though I haven't tried the Stabilyx; I can't decide if the added lower back support would be a help or an encumbrance as so much hip flexibility is required in crew. From my experience, the Expert dries amazingly fast, even in cold weather, which will definitely help with warmth. I would agree that pulling a Goretex layer over the top could further boost the insulative factor, but it would have to be pretty close fitting so as not to catch on the deck during the stroke. As an alternate set-up, perhaps wearing insulated 3/4 length training pants with calf-warmers over the tights might serve the same purpose with a bit less bulk. It just depends on whether having a water-proof outer layer is important in your climate.

I have gone for hour long runs in these pants in 15-20º temps in slushy/rainy weather. Although they are warm they are not weather-proof. I still think they are warmer than any other performance tights I have trained in... the compression on these puppies are intense. My muscles thank me however not sure about sitting in a boat for hours of practice on the river. I would suggest Gor-Tex apparel for your daughter or tights with brushed Polypropylene. Hope this helps!

Supportive but so-so warmth

By:
November 16, 2009

Looked sweet. Put them on - supportive panels felt badass. Thought they were going to be a box of warm goodness, but I just ran in them for a evening run in 28-30 degrees and my thighs and tush were cold! The supportive panels are insulated, but the remainder of the material is not. I have some Pearl Izumi tights that are warmer...maybe I'll just have to wear a layer over these...

These are not waterproof pants, they are great suppoort tights, but I wouldn't suggest wearing them to play in the snow. Just got back from Colorado and they are a great base layer for skiing. Temps ranged from 15 - 55 degrees and I was very comfortable in all temps with these under my Spyder bamboo blend insulated pants

I had a minor injured on my right knee from downhill skiing last year. It left me slightly pain after that when I downhill skiing or hiking down the mountains. It was amazing that the pain on my right knee was gone when I wore it the first time for downhill skiing this year. I would recommend this tight for any sport activities, just make sure the size fit you well.

I am 5'1" and about 130 lbs. I just got my first pair of the Stabilyx tights size small and as I wedged myself into them wondered if I had ordered the wrong size. I wore them for 15-20 min and when I took them off (on my lower front legs especially) were the slight imprint of the crossbands. I'm not sure if I'm just not used to wearing compression tights or if these are really too small.

I've been training in my CW-X tights for about 7 months now. I'm 5'4" and when I started running I was about 150lbs (and my tights are a medium). I now weigh 130 lbs and have dropped 3 pants sized in regular pants and my tights are loose at the top, but they still leave imprints on my lower legs..... so I think this is normal and you will probably get this even with a larger size pair of tights.

I bought these tights to wear as a base layer for skiing in cold weather. Found that they are an excellent choice not only when it is cold, but in any weather other than very warm spring conditions. Fit was snug as described, but not at all uncomfortable. And I am sold on the muscle stabilizing aspects of these tights! I have pretty severe arthritis in one of my knees and was able to ski aggressively for six consecutive days until the lifts closed!

Great tights

By:
March 23, 2010

I found these to be very comfortable. I ordered a size larger, as I am tall (5'9", 150#) and as with panty hose, find that most stretchy items fit better up one size. The large fit well, a bit like putting pantyhose on, scrunch them up and start at the bottom, adjust as you go. Wore them under Spyder Bamboo insulated pants skiing in Colorado temps ranged from about 15 - 55 and I was comfortable every day, no binding. The waist is a bit big, but the drawstring helps keep the pants up. Didn't tuck my slippery base layer top in the second day which seemed to help keep the pants up a little higher. Very happy with them.

How on earth are people finding these comfortable?

By:
November 14, 2009

Ow, ow, ow. According to the size chart, the Small should fit me, but these were painfully tight & really dug in at the waist. They also seemed short from the knees on up, but if I got 'em pulled up enough so they're not droopy drawers, then they were painful in the crotch, because of the seam that goes from front-center, down through the crotch area, and up to back-center -- and the seam is thick and NOT flatlock. Big design flaw in such expensive tights. With the seam like that, there was no point in my trying the Medium. I sent 'em back. The concept behind the tights seems good, but the execution of it is not. (Not when I tried them a year or two ago, anyway.)

Not really warm, and sort of odd.

By:
November 30, 2009

I was excited to try these out on the first sub-freezing day of the fall. Too bad, though, because even at 30 degrees, my legs were cold.

Beyond that, I'd say the stabilizer stuff made my legs want to snap back to straight, which sort of shortened my stride. I'm not a fan.

HI Lori- My suggestion for you is this. If you have long legs that are skinny, then I would go with the small and you will have a slight space between the bottom of the Insulates Stabilyx Tight and your ankle. This is fine as long as the knee area fits around your patella (knee cap) correctly and the waist sits comfortably around your waist. However if you have strong or full legs, then I would go up to the medium. This way you will get more length, but you will be able to fill out the medium leg area properly. I hope this info helps.

Great for Skiing

By:
March 20, 2010

I bought these on recommendation from a friend - so glad I did. These tights are the perfect addition to my ski gear. I wear them under my Gore-tex ski pants. They keep my knees supported and offer warmth without being hot. I find my legs are less fatigued at the end of a long ski day. One minor complaint is that they tend to drift down a bit in the crotch. Usually, by the time I'm ready for a pit stop, it's time to hike up the tights an inch...overall, not a big deal. I have long legs, and not much junk in the trunk, so I'll blame my anatomy and not the tights. The other bonus is that the tights are easy to wash. They quickly air dry overnight, so they're ready for the next day's skiing. Plan to use these for my cold weather runs as well. Great product!

Sizing is tricky

By:
December 20, 2009

I tried 2 other CW-X tights and neither fit me (PRO and PERFORMX) well around the waistline. I can't stand it when they ride high and cut into my gut. This one seems promising though - much softer fabric and I believe lower cut in the waist. However, according to the sizing chart I'm clearly a Medium - on the small side of medium even - but I'm going to try a size Large since I don't like feeling like a sausage. I did the same with the bra and have a size larger than recommended but I love it and it is plenty supportive, so I'm thinking maybe the same logic will apply here?

Help in deciding between size S or M and Stabilyx or Pro tights! I'm

Help in deciding between size S or M and Stabilyx or Pro tights!
I'm 5'5 and 125lb, and don't have such big hips or rear, but have big calves from running. The CWX sizing chart shows that I'm in the S range. I haven't tried the Stabilyx before, but I tried on a CWX 'Expert' tight in a store and found that S was really tight and uncomfortable behind the knees, and don't know how I'd be able to do my winter marathon training in these. I've never tried compression tights before, so maybe I'm not used to it. I felt the Expert M size tights were more comfortable than Small and still snug enough. I really want to get the perfect size since I plan to buy both the full and 3/4 length tights together (3/4 length for race day).. But just went to the CWX site and saw that the Pro tights are actually better suited for running than Stabilyx, and would help more with my nagging hamstring/glute ache - So I should actually be focusing on Pro tights instead?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You should definitely get the smalls. I am 5'10" 145 lbs and the mediums are great for me. The tights are supposed to be TIGHT. They should be difficult to get on and off. The difference between the stabilyx and the pro tights is the amount of knee support. The stabilyx is better for people with knee problems. Both tights have the same amount of hamstring support so either one would be good for you in that regard. Hope that helps!

Warm and Supportive

By:
November 21, 2009

I've owned two pairs of the basic CW-X Tights for at least 3 years and have enjoyed them tremendously (they're still in great condition - well made and durable). After suffering through a long walk on a cold, windy morning recently, I decided to give the Stabilyx Insulator tights a try. I found the tights to be warm, even in the wind. The Stabilyx version is more supportive than the basic CW-X tight, and if you're on the upper end of the size chart, you might need to size up unless you have a very slender build. I'd definitely encourage you to contact customer service if you have any concerns about the sizing, especially if you haven't worn super-supportive garments previously. I have a small waist with curvy hips, and am long-waisted with an average inseam length. I have to cinch in the waist (there is a drawstring), but must be careful not to let them pull too tight through the crotch (major ouch - and one of the other reviewers noted an issue with this area, as well). If you're using these tights on a brutally cold day in the wind, you might need to add wind pants for extra protection. I could also see wearing these tights around the house to help with leg fatigue.

insulator Stabilyx tights (IST) are wonderful

By:
December 9, 2008

These insulator Stabilyx tights (IST) are wonderful. I have the non-insulated expert tights as well, which is very nice also, but I think I actually prefer the fit of the IST. I am 5'9" and 145 lbs, and i wear small in CW-X. Expert tights fit well, but I wished it was a (tiny) bit more snug. IST has a much more snug fit, hence it feels more supportive. In addition to being a little more snug, IST feels a little shorter than non-insulated Expert tights. I can make up for it with longer socks.

I went for an 8 mile run this morning at about 37 degrees though a hilly course and my legs definitely felt supported. In case there are many of you, like me, did not really understand how compression tights actually help your legs, let me tell you what my dad who is a MD told me. He said that when you get older, and when you run, a lot of the blood is collected in your legs, in the blood vessels (veins specifically), trapping with it things like lactic acid, Co2, etc that should return to the heart to be recycled. This is primarily caused by gravity. By strategically compressing certain parts of the legs, you are in effect reversing the downward gravitational pull of the blood, so that it does not gather stagnant in your legs. Apparently there are compression sleeves and socks for older folks who suffer from varicose veins, so the concept is not new.

Needless to say, after my 73 year old dad tried the IST, he is asking one for his birthday. He says he may just wear it around the house to keep his ankles from swelling.

Hi There. CW-X products are designed to hold up to normal use as either an outerlayer or a baselayer. All I can tell you is that I have been using the same pair of insulated tights for my third season already and the wear is minimal. By:
January 14, 2009

I love CW-X tights. I have the Pro Tights and the Insulated Stabilyx. They do definitely help prevent/delay fatigue on long runs. The insulated version are a bit warmer, but not much, which makes them great as you don't get to warm. I think it is the wind component that they are best for. Definitely, love CW-x products. I have the shorts also but it has been to cold to try them out. I believe the difference between the Pro and the Expert is that the Pro has back and abd support panels.

Insulator Stabilyx Tight Large

By:
November 25, 2008

They almost got five stars from me, they are neat looking, and overall very comfortable and warm. I just came back from a 1.5 mile (I'm a beginner!!) run in 32 degree farenheit in Manitoba, and I wore the tights alone, and was comfortable in that temp (they'll be fine for me for the sunny warm winter days I'm sure) My complaint is the Large that I bought based on my weight, is too long for my height (5'6). Now I only have a 30" inseam, so it's not uncommon for me. I'm only hoping that soon enough I can move to a smaller size, which hopefully will be closer to my height. At that point I want to try some of the uninsulated, as these are very good!
