Description

Propel into the future of running tights with the CW-X ¾ Length Pro Tights.

The CW-X Women's ¾ Length Pro Tights are like Marty McFly's DeLorean. They take a typical base layer and add impressive technology to create a high-performance tight that propels you into the future of running gear. CW-X's Tuned Conditioning Web material supports your muscles and dampens vibration to reduce fatigue and increase efficiency. Like McFly's DeLorean, the ¾ Length Pro Tights sound unbelievable, but they work and they work well. The ¾ Length Pro Tight adds improved support throughout the joints and major muscle groups, and also supports the lower back and hips to help keep your posture honest. While all of these technological improvements seem pretty intense, the first thing you'll notice about the ¾ Length Pro Tight is how comfortable it is, thanks to Coolmax fabric and dialed anatomic design. These futuristic CW-X running tights' fabric is much more comfortable than the DeLorean's interior.

Here's what others have to say...

Wish I had the full length tights..

Wish I had the full length tights..

I haven't had a chance to take these tights out for a warm run yet, but the 3/4 length tights were warm enough on this snowy day. At least from the shins up!

A thousand thanks to Backcountry.com and CW-X for hand-selecting me to review this gear for the benefit of the Backcountry.com community!

I feel like every trail runner dreams of owning a perfect pair of compression tights. Tights that reduce muscle fatigue and soreness. Tights you can wear for recovery to reduce your lactic acid build up. Tights that don't make you look like you're dressed up as a superhero on Halloween. Well, on April 23rd 2015, that dream came true for me.

I've seen some of my fellow endurance athlete friends use them on long runs, others use them for recovery. I didn't really use them at all. I always wanted a pair, but the prices always deterred me from buying any good ones. I tried a few different brands and I didn't really love any of them.. then I got my first pair of CW-X compression tights.. . I'm head over heels!

The CW-X Pro Tights have bands of insanely strong, supportive material that run purposefully along your muscle groups and provide tensional integrity. One band runs from your hips, diagonally across your quads to where they attach to the medial side of your knee. Another band runs from your hips, diagonally across your hamstrings to that medial knee attachment as well. (I'm kind of an anatomy nerd.) These are super comfortable and supportive for the long day, high mile, quad-crushing, knee-slamming summits I love.

There's a trail I'll run near my house with a summit where you'll gain over 2,000 feet of elevation in 2.25 miles. It's impossibly steep and my legs are always legitimately trashed afterward. Of course this is the first place I wore my new tights! I purposely exaggerated my stride and foot strikes to get my muscles to absorb a lot of the vibration of impact. I felt really strong the whole run which was pretty impressive, but even more impressive was that I wasn't sore the next day!

A few days later I wore them on a 9 mile trail run that was steep but also ridiculously snowy. We had some spring snow but the lower trails were clear. I could tell there was snow higher up, but just had to wear these tights! They were awesome; really warm, breathable, comfortable, and supportive. I'm just kind of an idiot for wearing 3/4 length tights in, what ended up being, knee deep snow!

CW-X's sizing chart puts me in the gray area between a small and medium. I was feeling optimistic, so I went with a small. I broke a sweat just getting the damn things on! Honestly though, once they are on, they felt like they are probably the right size. I'm 5'5" and 135 pounds with reaaally big thighs. Maybe medium would have been better, but I'm glad I'm getting all the compression these can offer. I noticed some of the other reviews said they removed the drawstring at the waist. I did this too. I didn't think it was necessary. The tights are higher on the waist than I'm used to and I appreciate the description online that says "the tights support the lower back and hips to help keep your posture honest." I can feel the support in my hips and glutes and I definitely find myself engaging my core and keeping myself upright more than usual when I'm running or hiking in these, but I think that's more because they are tight on my belly and I don't want a muffin-top :)

So, even though getting these tights on my body has proven to be somewhat comical and I don't think I will wear these for anything like climbing, yoga, going to the gym, etc. the 3/4 Pro Tights and Shorts are my go-to for long distance and/or steep trail running now and I've been wearing them intermittently for recovery as well.

You get what you pay for with these lovely tights. Treat yourself!

I see the light!

I see the light!

I never really understood the allure of compression tights . I tried a few different brands and the whole idea was lost on me.. then I got my first pair of CWX compression tights. .. I get it now!

so tight but so good!

Thanks to Backcountry.com and CW-X for selecting me to review this rad piece of gear to help out the backcountry.com community!

Overall I'm really amped on this product, but alas it was not love at first site (or for every activity). As a climber / trail runner I look for two things in my outdoor clothing, comfort and durability (that granite has some strong opinions on what durable is) with that in mind at first I had a hard time with these compression leggings. The first time I tried them on they took like 2 minutes to squeeze into and once I was locked in, I wasn't sure I felt like moving in them, but I powered through and I?m glad I did.

At this point these are my go to running tights. Coming from a history of bad knees, I really like having the extra support; it helps minimize the discomfort for the long haul and I find I'm not as achy afterwards. On top of that, the fabric wicks away moisture really well so I don't feel like swamp thing even though I?m running in 80% humidity. Like many others mentioned the drawstring seems useless so I pulled it out.

Sadly all the love I felt for these tights does not transfer over for every activity. I tried these out both bouldering and sport climbing and found myself irritated that the leggings didn't stay put throughout my movement and I ended up having wads of tight fabric bunching around my knees ... not comfortable. Additionally the stitching on the seams did not hold up well to contact with the rock. After ~3 hours of climbing the seams around the knees were super frayed.

As far as sizing, I'm 5"9 125 lb and the small fit just right, these are meant to be fitted so don't be discouraged if they take a little bit longer to get on than your tired and true leggings at home. They fit nice and snug through the legs with a bit more give in the butt region and they hit at a really nice spot right between the waist and hips offering lots of support from mid waist down.

In the end I would definitely vouch for these tights for those looking for a more supportive legging that keeps you cool and comfortable for your next adventure!

Thank you Backcountry.com and CW-X brand for hand selecting me to review this piece of gear for the benefit of the backcountry.com community. I already am a huge fan of CW-X and was thrilled to get these 3/4 pants. They are not only great for running but I recently used them hiking in the cold north cascades and ran in to cold weather and fresh snow.....thought I gave up on snow out here but I was fooled. I had been horseback riding the day before which cause some major knee pain in my left knee. I rolled out of bed the next morning for hiking. Rolled on my pro 3/4 pants and forgot about my pain till I was telling my sister about how great these pants are for muscle pains. I then realized I had no knee pain. The pants are supportive and really have a high level of comfort. I've used these for high intensity training and running and these are fantastic. They are a little restrictive for regular workouts involving major bending but for boot camp for cross fit they are excellent. I look forward to trying out my pro shorts for warmer weather runs/workouts. You may feel like these are insanely tight but go by the size chart and you won't be wrong. They sit high at the waist for better comfort and are incredibly durable-but I do hand wash mine and hang dry. Don't let the price deter you either. These are worth every penny. I own 4 pairs now and each one as their own perfect use.

Truth in Advertising: "Tights"

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Although I have owned these for a long time, they show zero sign of wear and tear. I wash them in the washing machine, but do not put them in the dryer. Oh yeah, I don't have a dryer, but I wouldn't put them in if I had one. They have a tie at the waist which is a requirement for me because I usually am wearing a pack, but unlike most pants, they do not slide down. My butt puts me between a small and a medium, and I have learned when purchasing compression clothing to size up. Breathing trumps vanity, mostly, and muffin tops do not a profile picture make. I do not put these on until I am at the event. They are too tight to wear while sitting in the car. But, the longer the race, the more I appreciate these tights. The fabric is substantial, so I might make a different choice on a hot day. I am all of 5'0" on a good day, and the average/long length puts them at mid-calf, but it just means more support for my tired muscles and joints. And it feels so good when you peel them off after you are finished!

Great Knee Support

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

If you have read the reviews, you know these tights appear small and are difficult to get on. But once on, they do provide great knee and hamstring support. I am 5'6" , 150 lbs and have an hour glass figure. I use the tights for tennis, sometimes with a skirt over it but not always. No bumps are going to show with this fabric! The waist fits tight and no need for drawstring - likely just cut it off. I wanted another pair and based on the size chart, I ordered a medium after wearing a large, which shifts slightly with frequent movement. I am returning the medium because it is simply too tight over my "athletic" calves.

Wish I could run more!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I got these because I was hoping the crazy cool technology would support my muscles in a way that would help my knees feel better when I run. They did have an improvement but, I think my knee problems are more than I want to find out and can't be cured by a pair of pants. ANYWAY - these really are great running pants, you will feel a great, positive difference after running in these. YES they are "tight," they're compression, you're gonna look at them and think, "How the hell am I going to get into these?" but you will, and I really didn't find it to be that much a struggle. I'm 5' 4 1/2", 130lbs, 26in waist, 36in hip, and the Small (which is the size I always wear in work-out pants) fits me perfectly. I really didn't think I'd like how high the pants come up (they do hit at your natural waistline) but it's actually comfortable and I really don't feel them. But, if I was going to do, like, sit ups in these pants, that could get uncomfortable, but they're made for running, not sit-ups, and they work great for what they're made for. I got them for half-marathon training and they were great.

Awesome and tight!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

Love these pants, but they are tight! And by tight, I mean I almost stripped the skin from my hands pulling them on. I'm normally a medium and ordered that size, but after a few struggles and no stretching I gave that pair to a petite friend and ordered the large.

Suck It In!

  • Gender: Female

I love these! they are VERY tight, but they are meant to be that way. They keep me warm on those cold days and have really helped prevent muscle fatigue when Im get after all that POWDA!

End muscle fatigue

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I do a lot of sprinting and HIIT (high intensity interval training). I was getting a lot of muscle fatigue and soreness; especially in my ham strings. These tights are amazing! Using them has greatly reduced my soreness to almost nothing. I highly recommend them.

Very supportive tights

Don't be scared when you pull these out of the bag -- they look way too small, but they do give enough for you to be able to wiggle them on. Once there they work great -- I don't get the knee pain I experience when I'm running without them. I had a bad experience with the CW-X Stabilyx tights because the space for the knee didn't line up right with my kneecap, so it actually ended up irritating it terribly. This tight, however, isn't that exacting about position, but still offers tons of support. Great for running, and know it will be great for snowboarding, too.

Great tights!

I have really enjoyed these tights. They fit snugly but well. The first time I put them on, I was slightly sore from the previous work out, but that disappeared. The tights are very supportive. I'm very happy wtih them.

Too small

I was excited to see these on sale, as I've had my eye on them for skiing but the regular price was a bit steep. They came very quickly and I immediately tried them on in my kitchen before I even got my jacket off!! I was SHOCKED at how small they were. I'm 5'1" 95lbs and I wear size 00P or 25 pants and the XS was FAR too tight. I knew that they were supposed to be snug but I couldn't wear these for more than a few minutes. Had to return them :( I'm bummed Backcountry doesn't have any size smalls right now.

My advice, order a size up.

Responded on

I am surprised you think they are too tight. I am 5'5" and 135 pounds and I wear the size small. I love them. They are a compression tight so they are suppose to squeeze. They also take quite a bit of effort to put on and that is normal. The benefits of the tight only come when they are...well...tight. Did you try to exercise in them. Personally I would not wear them for anything that you have to bend a lot at the waist. But I am looking at buying another pair I love them so much. Although I have the stabylx tights.

If you are the at edge of the sizing one,...

If you are the at edge of the sizing one, would you size up or down?

Responded on

If you are in between sizes, you should size up. What is your height and weight (yes I know it's a personal question....)

Review Title

I love, love, love my tights! I have been missing my cw-x this summer, so I am trying the 3/4 for late summer/fall. The support is awesome! Very, very comfortable. I seriously PR'd in my last half marathon, I think due in part to my "magic pants!"
