The Crux 3G AK37 Backpack may not look like much, but this burly backpack was built for serious alpinism for the functionally minded climber. Designed by engineer-turned-alpinist, Carol Mcdermott, from his home/company headquarters near the Pyrenees in the South of France, this bag is made by climbers for climbers. And as a result, every feature on this bag can be used to assist you on your ascent, whether you're climbing alpine granite or traversing glacial cirques.

The need to be able to adjust to changing conditions is of the utmost importance while climbing, and that ability can be found in the design of this bag. The removable titanium frame stays make this bag comfortable, even when you're weighed down with rope on a single-day technical route, and the bag's oversize haul loop is easy to grab and clip into. A top compression strap is a secure place to fasten climbing rope, and the front accessory loops are ideal for transporting crampons during the approach. Versatile side compression straps can be used to secure trekking poles or skis when you're planning to shave some time off of your descent. Two ice-axe holders are great when hiking to the frozen wall, and the 4mm Rivory-Joanny drawcord top closure can be removed and utilized as an anchor when an emergency rappel is in order. Two side wand pockets keep small pieces of gear close at hand, and a hydration bladder allows for quick hydration while you're on the go.
