The Columbia River Knife and Tool Zilla-Tool delivers monstrous functionality. CKRT made the Zilla-Tool's spring-loaded pliers with a slight needle nose taper for getting into tight spots and gave the pliers a handy wire cutter. Remove the bits from the handle and snap them into the screwdriver tool—the longer, ergonomic handle will give you plenty of leverage for tightening or loosening screws. The Zilla-Tool's knife flips open with a light touch of the flipper button on the back, then locks into place. After your repair job is done, crack open a brew with this CRKT multitool's built in bottle opener and take a break.

Bottom Line: From tightening loose bolts and screws to cutting slings and cord, the Columbia River Knife and Tool Zilla-Tool handles almost any situation.

Not what I expected

I've had the Zilla-Tool for about 4 months now and I can honestly say that this is more knife than it is useful multi-tool. The heft and balance is great; it feels good in the hand. The blade is solid and holds a it's edge very well; I used it to cut carpet at work and it's sharpness outlasted the razor blade carpet cutters (I can't say the same for my Leatherman's blade ). The 1/4 " screwdriver bits and integral holder are pretty useful and work fairly well in most situations and if you lose the bits it came with , you can replace them easily. My only problem with this multi-tool is the pliers/wire cutters. The jaws of the plier are too small for most work not well made enough for any precision work. The wire cutters are virtually useless; I've tried using them on many different guages of wire and different materials and it can't cut any of them. The plier design itself is great ; being part of the handle makes it feel like it should work better than it does. After using this tool at work (electrician) and at play in the outdoors (hiking, fishing, camping) , I found this device to be more effective as a kubotan type self defense weapon and knife than a good "do it all" single-carry multi-tool. This is a good knife with a convenient screwdriver built in but that's about all.

not great

The zilla excels neither as a multi tool nor a knife- it is awkwardly in the middle and not very useful as far as I could tell. It wasn't what I expected- which is probably my own fault. I assumed that the pliers would fold in so that it could be easily carried in a pocket, which they don't. They also seemed too wimpy to really do anthing that requires pliers. I was going to give it as a gift, but returned it and bought a more straight foward pocket knife instead. If you have a gerber or leatherman, you don't need this.

Pretty good knife, I would expect it to be a bit more versatile and include a few more tools based on how heavy it is but if your not worried about weight it is a very solid knife

Whoa,.. really bad

I own several crkt knives and like them. If my first experience was with the Zilla there is no way I'd have bought more. It is a nice looking and designed tool with a good sized blade but suffers severely in execution=> "Made in China". Blade doesn't lock well. Wire cutters failed to cut a small slinky. Pliers' spring is weak and spongy. I'm actually not sure I'd want to use the blade for fear of a "snap" followed with much cussing by me.

Bought one for myself and one for an Xmas present for a friend. They'll both go back. I'd be embarrassed to give it as a gift.

Get a Leatherman. Both the big old style and the newer Juice are better although less blade oriented.

Keep It In The Car

By:

This tool is great - I keep it in the truck so that I always have it for car-camping and cabin trips as well as other emergency repairs (tightening a binding, disconnecting a dead battery, to name a few). Also, it feels more solid, particularly when using the blade, then any of my friends' Leathermans. It's too big for a back-packing trip, though.

Not worth the weight or volume

By:

It's a decent enough tool. The knife blade is larger then you'll find on most multi-tools, but the size and weight are unwarranted. Solid, yes... better than a Gerber, no. The only positive I've found is that a pen fit's perfectly alongside the tool in it's sheath-- useful for work, but not much else.

I've had the Zilla Tool for over a year, and since then my Gerber has stayed in the closet. I use it at work daily. I use the screw driver often and find that it being centered in the tool ,and not offset to one side as most multi tools, feels better. I've had no issue with the pliers and like the fact that I don't need to unfold the tool to access them. As others have mentioned the wire cutters could be improved.I like the tool otherwise.
