Crescent Moon Gold 10 is one of the best snowshoes out there for quick and lightweight backcountry travel. Extra traversing claws provide greater grip, and the hardened stainless steel crampons bite like a rabid dog. Lighter decking materials and an increased surface area give you tons of flotation in powder. Crescent Moon update the Gold 10s with an SPL (single pull loop) binding for convenience. A polycarbonate heel ratcheting buckle keeps your heel in place and results in a super-responsive binding. The brightly colored powder-coated aluminum frame fights the elements. These backcountry shoes fit feet from women's size five to a men's thirteen.

Bottom Line: Just because winter's here doesn't mean you're banished to the gym. Get the Crescent Moon Gold 10s and hit the trails!

The gold series binding adjust to most size hiking shoes, a size 12 snowboard boot may be a tight squeeze in the gel stirrup and toe harness, you may want to check out the TSL 325 Explore and the MSR Denali Evo Snowshoe they're both snowboard boot compatible.

His feet should be fine on just about any snowshoe binding (they're all adjustable). As for what size...he'd probably need a large shoe like a 35 inch, in order to have good flotation in deep snow. Especially if he plans on taking a pack as well.

More Than Just a Pretty Pair of Shoes

By:

These Crescent Moon shoes blew me away! The binding system is absolutely brilliant -- they fit snug on my boots, are super easy to get on and off, and are perfectly integrated with the rest of the shoe.

The Gold 10's crampon system is amazing too. But you won't notice the stainless steel teeth underfoot until the going gets tough. Sheer rock and tree roots are no match for these rugged claws.

CM's Gold 10 is probably overkill for the casual hiker looking to log a few miles. However, they are the ultimate backcountry tool -- where lightweight and foolproof equipment is absolutely critical.

These snowshoes truly earn all five stars in my book!
