    King of cold-weather.

Those dreadful days when the wind cuts right through you, unfortunately, are an inevitable part of winter training. We’ve all been there. And is there a sensation worse than the bone-numbing coldness which comes when the wind has cut through all your outer layers and blows through your sweat-soaked under shirt? The Craft Zero Extreme Wind Stopper Long Sleeve Base Layer has come to the rescue.

What sets this long sleeve base layer apart from the other Zero Extreme items is that the shoulders and parts of the front torso have been fortified with the fabulous Gore Windstopper fabric. This means that it's suited for the coldest windiest days, but boy how you’ll need it. It'll be a lot easier to withstand training in the sort of dire weather conditions that would keep less equipped cyclists indoors. Even if the arctic winds do manage to penetrate your outer layers, you can remain sanguine at the thought that your Windstopper enhanced base layer will protect you.

As for the rest of the under shirt, Craft’s Zero Extreme technology will succeed in keeping your body’s core temperature right in the comfort zone, thereby helping to enhance your performance. For decades now, Craft has been developing materials intended to keep you warm in an arctic winter or cool in Saharan heat. The two fabrics which handily succeed in fulfilling these large temperature control demands are the Pro Zero and the Pro Cool, respectively. And the key to both the fabrics is how well each works to keep the body temperature neutral by keeping it dry.

By merging Craft’s two flagship fabrics, the Pro Zero and the Pro Cool, the Zero Extreme combines the moisture wicking genius of the Pro Zero with the moisture transference of the Pro Cool. This means that as you sweat, the Zero fibers pull the moisture away from your body while the Cool fibers pull the damp to the outer layer of the shirt. Once the moisture reaches the outer layer, the weave of the Cool fiber promotes air circulation away from the skin which dries the fabric without cooling you off at the same time. TheZero Extreme also incorporates an antimicrobial treatment which prevents fabric odor from setting in.

The Zero Extreme Wind Stopper Long Sleeve Base Layer has been designed to regulate your body temperature in whatever zones require it. The seamless torso has an ergonomic fit, but doesn’t pull uncomfortably at the armpits since the thin, lightweight fabric is also extremely elastic. It will hug, not cling to you, and the flatlock seams succeed in making this base layer an ideal second skin.

The Craft Zero Extreme Wind Stopper Long Sleeve Base Layer comes in Black Lava and is available in sizes Small though X-Large.

    • ProZero fabric resides against the body to pull moisture away from your skin
    • ProCool outer fabric circulates air around your body for increased moisture expulsion
    • WindStopper fabric wraps the front for wind protection
    • Antimicrobial treatment prevents funk from setting into the fabric
    • Flatlock seams reduce irritation

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I tried this on and it felt like a second skin. I understand that a base layer isn't supposed to be a sweatshirt, but this was a bit to tight for me. I'm 5'11 and about 164. I got the medium. I ended up returning it and getting a Gore base layer. Maybe if I would have gotten the large it wouldn't have been, but my initial impression was that I wasn't thrilled with it.

    What winter!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

This base layer allows me to unzip my jacket and jersey half way in freezing temperatures to allow ventilation, really important not to allow your base layers to get wet in the cold. When its 40 or below, this is my goto base layer.

    Amazing Base Layer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When it is in the 40s and 50s I wear this with a long sleeve jersey and I am comfortable. In the 30's I wear this and a Gore Bike Wear Windstopper Softshell. From 5-30 degrees I add a mid layer, either a long sleeve jersey or wool mid layer and I stay very comfortable. It is my favorite article of clothing for winter/cool weather cycling.
