Layer up for better training.
Craft has long held one of the best reputations in sport for creating undeniably useful baselayers. Just try on the long-sleeve Active Extreme Concept Base Layer for women and it'll be obvious that the folks at Craft are putting a lot of thought and effort into keeping their clothes on the leading edge of performance sportswear.
The Concept Piece Women's Base Layer uses Craft's ultimate fabric, Zero Extreme, and melds it with the Mesh Superlight fabric around the shoulders and back to create the perfect combination of insulation and ventilation. Craft created this base layer to be a comfortable, form-fitting second skin. The wing-like pattern of the upper back and shoulder areas allows a complete range of movement whether you're reaching back into your pockets for a gel pack or crunching up into an aero position for a descent. Craft has refined its body mapping techniques for some time now to give its clothes an all-purpose, athletic fit, and now it's merging those body mapping cuts with a sport-specific design to better suit a cyclist's needs. That's not to say that you can't wear it jogging or skiing; it just means that it's designed specifically for cycling.
Craft's Zero Extreme technology aims at keeping your body's core temperature right in the comfort zone, thereby helping to enhance your abilities and keeping you in the saddle. For decades now, Craft has been developing materials intended to keep you warm in a Scandinavian winter or cool in Saharan heat. The two fabrics which best succeed in fulfilling these large temperature control demands are Pro Zero and Pro Cool, respectively, and the key to that success is how well each works to keep the body temperature neutral by keeping it dry.
By merging Craft's two flagship fabrics, the Zero Extreme combines the moisture wicking genius of the Pro Zero with the moisture transference of the Pro Cool. This means that as you sweat, the Zero fibers pull the moisture away from your skin while the Cool fibers push the dampness to the outer layer of the shirt. Once the moisture reaches the outer layer, the weave of the Pro Cool fiber promotes air circulation which dries the fabric without cooling you off at the same time. The Active Extreme also incorporates an antimicrobial treatment which prevents odor from setting in permanently.

- Q & A
the mesh insets are awesome
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: M
Too bad there aren't additional photos to show the mesh insets better. There is mesh on the front around the shoulders (inwards from the shoulder seams) and extending over the shoulders to the shoulder blades, and arched on the back side so the upper back is also mesh below the neck seam. Great top for high activity sports - I specifically use this for cross country skiing, since I want to wear layers but not retain sweat in those key areas. They have a men's version also which my husband loves. Great lightweight baselayer, breathable, not itchy. I'm a 36B through the chest and the Medium fits well. Snug and stretchy, yet not too tight either (no pinch points). Crew neck.
