Boat Captain Review
Poor quality,poorer warranty/cust serv
I had a defect in the frames I purchased. I had returned them to the company for warranty work. I received notification that the frames were indeed defective, but that because I had a crack in one of my lenses, I would have to purchase a new set of lenses at $50 plus a $12 service fee. I understand that they may not have wanted to remove the lenses, but I also asked that they just send a new frame if that was the case as this was a warranty issue. As the warranty does not cover the lenses regardless, I didn t see what the issue was. I have purchased Costas for the last 13 years and did so because Costa is a local company and I support as many local companies as possible. The customer service unit was not any help with this issue. They said they could not do anything. I told them to send them back. Not only did I get them back, they were now totally unwearable as someone had broken a piece off of them. Talked with the manage, Peter White. He was just a broken record about paying for lenses and they don t send any incomplete glasses out as I would just be happy with the frame. The glasses are made cheaply and the warranty is useless as the company does not understand what customer service is. Buy Maui Jim s, their warranty is an actual warranty.
Costa Del Mar Fantail Polarized
Decent glasses, but too costly for being made in Taiwan
I am the first to admit I have a problem when it comes to sunglasses. I can't seem to have enough. After owning various polarized shades from Oakley, Smith Action Optics, Kaenon and Maui Jim, I thought it was time to try out Costa's. I was interested in their new 580P lens since glass lenses still scare me a bit. I chose the tortoise frame with copper lens. Overall I liked the glasses. The copper lens did amp up the color, especially greens and reds, compared my neutral gray lenses. I like the fit and style of the glasses too. They hugged my head pretty well and definitely weren't falling off with the comolded frames. I didn't really care for the integrated hinge. It just seems cheap to me. I do think overall they are very rugged and could handle abuse. My main hangup, and the reason I ended up returning these, was I couldn't pay $170 for a pair of sunglasses were made in Taiwan. In the premium pricing category, I really think Kaenon, Smith and Maui are putting out better quality products manufactured in countries that are known for better quality. And props to Oakley for making their sunglasses in the USA. Had the Fantails been made in the US, I would have kept them and probably picked up a model with the 580 glass lens as well.
These are incredible all around sunglasses for all types of outings whether taking in a golf tourney, watching a baseball game or lounging on the beach. The 580 lens brings fantastic clarity and precision. I absolutely love these shades and as usual Costa makes an excellent product even better with the 580p lens.
Love these glasses!!!! Fit perfect, light, great outside for everything!!!! My buddy has the Zane and he wants these so bad!!!! Only other thing as awesome as the glasses was the time it took to get them. Ordered on Wednesday by 11 am, and had them by 1015 the next day (granted I paid for overnight shipping)!!!! Bottom line glasses are great and backcountry is just as AWESOME!!!! THANKS GUYS!!!!

It is stated that these glasses have the 580 series lenses but the black frames have the amber lens which only is available in the 400 series as listed at the following link: http://www.costadelmar.com/SeeOutThere/Technology/PureLensPerfection/
Please clarify so that I can make a purchase quickly.
The page you referenced on Costa's site is a bit outdated, as it does not show any of their 580p lenses. Costa recently added a new lens to their 580 lineup, the 580p Lens. The 580P offers the color clarity & quality that you have grown to love in the 580 glass lenses, but is now been placed in a Lightweight, Impact Resistant, and Coated for Durability polycarbonate lens. The Fantails on this page have the Costa 580P lens, which are available in Amber, Grey and Copper Tints.
