Using the Contour Roam Camera is as easy as operating a light switch. You just slide the record switch and splaDOW! You're recording high definition video with audio from the Roam's built-in microphone. The resolution adjustment lets you choose between 720p,960p, 1080p, or 5 megapixel stills, depending on what the moment calls for.

R.I.P. Contour

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Great action cam for the price. Records excellent quality video and couldn't be easier to use. Slide the switch and go. Its too bad contour isn't around anymore; somebody should buy them.

I highly recommend the Contour Roam, (if you can get your hands on one).

Great quality for the price

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

The Contour Roam takes great quality video, and is ridiculously easy to operate. It lacks the features of the newer models like bluetooth connectivity and higher frame rates, but the $100 or more price difference more than makes up for the slight inconvenience of not being able to change settings on the fly.

I suspect this model will be discontinued in favor of the newer models. That's a shame, because it's the best entry-level action camera on the market.

Nice but I like GoPro better

I have 2 GoPro HERO2 camera's that I LOVE, but I love the low profile of the Contour camera's. I also love the 1 switch for on and off and the option to mount on the goggles because I don't wear a helmet. I decided to give it a try. It does bounce a little bit on the goggle strap but it's not too bad. You can't backflip with it or it pulls your goggles up over your eyes. The only time I use the ROAM is when I'm snowboarding.

Ain't just for your Helmet, Yo!~

I'm a video producer, and these are an important part of my kit, I use them for Interviews and concerts and a lot of things OTHER than the Sports uses that they are best known for.
The hugely wide lens provides a cool alternative view of the world.
Outdoors and in highly lit areas, these are especially kick-ass.
It's got a more streamlined shape than the goPro, take a better picture, and it's ridiculously easy to operate.
        what's not to like?

        Great Product!

I have had nothing but great experiences with this Camera. I am very passionate about adventure media and ski films and It is great to have a camera that is easy to use, goes everywhere and takes great videos. I love the low profile helmet mount. It is simple and positions the camera in a safe place while skiing trees and ducking branches. This is my favorite camera to date and I cant wait to see what I can do with it this season

          Top of the Line

I was torn between the GoPro and Contour Roam. I have used my Contour for skiing and Rock climbing. the helmet mounts are perfect. The video quality is incredible and is stunning every time. If you want a low profile, sleek, and amazing helmet cam, the contour is for you!

            Contour HD

The camera I got was junk. No matter what I did no computer (PC or Mac) would recognize the camera. The only thing that would work was to put the memory card into a card reader. Tech support was no help. If you look at the posts on the contour site a lot of people had the same problems with no solution.

Do yourself a favor and buy some other brand.

              Contour Roam

The camera would not process the 15mb/s 32Gb, class 10 cards under 1082 HD. The video gets broken into video fragments.
It has photocamera option, but you have to go back home from where you are shooting, plug it in, change the options, come back and now you can not shoot video, you can shoot only photos, so back home again... The website says 8 hours of HD. I made it work with 960p and it runs 5 hours, so with 1080 its even less.

Hey Alejander. When you say "video fragments" what do you mean? On all of our cameras we take really long videos and make them smaller files so the camera and computer can manage them better, but it has nothing to do with what card you use, but something we do, to make video easier to deal with.

                Thanks,

                Marc

Try a different micro sD card. There are many "forged" sD cards sold that don't really meet the specs they claim, or are just stamped with well-known manufacturers' names. One would think, for example, buying a Kingston card would guarantee it performs up to spec, but in fact there are many forged "Kingston" cards, and even worse, they had made some themselves that performed worse than class 2 cards, with class 10 specs. Your symptoms sound exactly like what happens when a card is too slow, so I'd suspect it's not the cam at all. Buy one from a place with user reviews, and with plenty of reviews that show they can work with HD 1080p, which requires a very fast card.

                Great little waterproof camera

I'm loving the contour roam camera. I mainly use it for motorsport but will also use it for skiing in winter. The video is quality is not quite the same as a $500+ handycam but it's still pretty good given the small size. I really like the fact I don't have to worry about it getting wet, and the single big record button is brilliant to use when you've got gloves on.

                  HD for your action sports

Roam does what it says it does, hi def in a small package for a great price. I use it exclusively for kiteboarding. its waterproof so no fears of accidentally getting it wet. plus there's no housing that will make the lens fog over. yeah it doesn't float, but they integrated the threaded tripod hole right into the base of the camera. use the tee rails or anything that screws into a camera hole. this camera is perfect for my helmet. nice and sleek with a button so easy to operate. just slide it forward and it's on/recording.

Best helmet cam to date! Next generation stuff..

Best Helmet Camera yet! I've used them all and I'm totally stoked on this one.
It's aluminum, waterproof (only IXP7 rated but I've taken mine at least 12 ft. deep and my friend has been surfing with his quite a bit.)

What I like best is that it is so simple. Instant record with no power up is a huge feature and saves battery life. The camera has one switch that is it. Big plus is the new new 170 wide angle which was a plus of the Gopro. The camera seems to have a very tight high quality feel.I suppose that is because it is built to a high standard to be waterproof without a plastic case.

The Roam is now my go to camera. I have more expensive ones with more features but I just love the point and shoot ease of use and the low profile look as compared to my Gopro.

Would you buy this as your only camera or do you think the gopro is a better camera? I have used their HD1080 camera and am looking to buy something. Feel that the + is too spendy but the ROAM is too basic, which makes me think about the GoPro, but can't make a decision on what is best for a single camera.
