Trail King Tire

Seeing that many modern trail and all-mountain machines are increasingly slacker with long-travel figures to match, Continental developed the Trail King 29in Tire to provide unrelenting traction and voluminous support for these aggressive bikes and riding disciplines. This tire excels when the trail turns increasingly steep and technical, regardless if you're rallying across a boulder-strewn trail where falling isn't an option or railing corners on tacky forest loam. Another stand-out feature is its significantly wider casing, which allows you to drop tire pressures in tubeless form to gain heaps of traction and bump-smoothing compliance over small rocks, bigger boulders, and nasty roots in the forest.

This particular Trail King features Continental's BlackChili compound, which strikes just the right balance between relatively fast rolling speed and all-out grip, all without sacrificing longevity when you're smashing it on the trail and logging serious miles throughout the riding season. It's reinforced against cuts and punctures with Continental's Protection Apex, which is up to the task of serious thrashings common to aggressive trail and all-mountain riding.

DHRII - lite

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:

Most of the grip, none of the drag of a DHRII. I like the DHRII up front and am using this up front as well. Usually, high rolling resistance up front doesn't bother me on the climbs, but the DHRII is an exception. I ended up with the 29x2.4 Trail King up front and really like it. It has the braking and steering grip of a DHRII, but none of the drag. It's holding up well, also. It would probably make a good rear tire replacement for the Maxxis, but I haven't tried it on the back. Mine came in at 930 grams and at sub-20 psi up front, the carcass is 2.33" with the knobs at 2.39". You really need to look at ETRTO on tires to gauge accuracy. These are listed at 60-622. The 60 is predicted width of 60mm or 2.36". They exceed that width and the ETRTO's of the Continental tires seem accurate, or understated. Update: Just got back from Moab. The tire was great combined with a 29x2.3 Mountain King on the back. PR's on Navajo Rocks, Burro (TWE) up and down and no damage to the tires at all. Very durable So far I'm really liking this tire for trail riding in the Wasatch Back.
