Very good coat, very cost-effective, that is a little big, some doubt about the size of Columbia, and sometimes just sometimes is too large, too large or the L size actually.

Warm

Great coat. Used it in colorado and utah skiing the last couple of years. Very comfortable. It surprised me how warm it was. In 20 degree weather I found myself having to unzip on the lift to cool off! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a cold weather jacket.

This jacket was recommended to me. I'm looking for something

This jacket was recommended to me. I'm looking for something dual purpose -- good for daily wear in Eastern Canada/US cold but also breathable enough to use on the occasional day on the mountain in the West. Thoughts?

Great points, Mike. I will add, that with still too many coats in my own closet, I reach for this one more times than not for skiing. It's quiet, soft, waterproof, and a great weight for insulation and heat management. In Whistler, CO, UT and a trip to VT, this was the one I brought each time

DT, I believe this jacket will work for what you are looking for. I personally prefer to use layers under a shell and that allows me to regulate the temperature for whatever I happen to be doing.

I Like It

Overall this is a great jacket. Comfort and functionality are top notch in my opinion. It's super comfortable and fairly warm, although it's not super warm. You'll still need a couple good layers underneath it for sub-freezing temps. The materials seem very high quality and it seems well constructed. My favorite feature is the hood. When you cinch the hood tight, it creates a seal that keeps all wind and air off of your head and keeps your ears nice and toasty. I'm 5'10" 190 lbs and I got the large. It fits nicely - if maybe a tad on the loose side. I'm wondering if maybe I could have fit in to a medium for a sleeker fit. If you're not sure what size to get, I would say go for the smaller size.

Great Jacket

Warm and comfortable, however the term softshell is a bit mis-leading. It is soft, but most people associate a soft shell with thin and stream line. This is not the case with this jacket, its a tad bulky. If your looking for a warm, comfortable jacket its the one for you. If your looking for a tradtional soft shell keep looking.
