Making it much easier to go where the climate suits your clothes.

The Columbia Men's Whirlibird III Interchange Parka combines all the best technology Columbia has at its disposal to creates its top-o'-the heap ski parka. Columbia's 3-in-1 Interchange system makes the Whirlibird one of the most versatile jackets in its lineup as well by giving you the option of wearing the liner, the shell, or both at once.

  • Omni-Shield resists all liquids below 170 degrees Fahrenheit to keep you dry and clothes from becoming stained
  • Omni-Shield fabrics dry 3 to 5 times faster than untreated fabrics
  • Omni-Tech membrane is made with pores that are too small for water to pass through but large enough for water vapor to escape so moisture inside can get out but water can't get in
  • Omni-Heat reflective liner reflects heat back in toward your body while allowing excess heat and moisture to escape
  • Zip-in interchange system turns the 2 jackets into 1
  • Fully adjustable, removable storm hood protects your dome from the elements
  • Interior security pocket keeps valuables safe
  • Drop tail for added coverage
  • Underarm venting allows you to dump heat quickly
  • Adjustable, snap-back powder skirt gets out of your way when you don't need it
  • Zippered pockets keep your stuff inside, even when skiing, and keep cold air from entering

Great product but not pictured correctly

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

I ordered this jacket as I wanted the red color with the white stripes on the sleeves. The one that came in had darker red stripes on it. I emailed Back Country and told them of the problem and they were very nice and told me they were sending out another one that will have the white stripes. Well the 2nd one didn't either.
I ended up keeping both as we had gift needs and it is a good product but the picture is wrong and needs to be corrected!

Have been trying to find information as to the temperature limits of this jacket but it no avail. Not on the product specs nor on anybody's reviews. Does anyone know if it will be enough for a place with temperature of -15 degrees cent (5 deg Fahrenheit)?

Responded on

The reason why do are not coming across temperature ratings for this jacket is because there too many factors that can come into play to just say a jacket is going to work in this or that temperature range. However, I believe the liner has 80g of the Omni-Heat insulation with the reflective barrier that if you are active should keep you warm around that 5 degree Fahrenheit mark. If you are sitting still it will probably be pushing the limits of its ability.

Good jacket for the price

Got this jacket about a week before heading to Telluride for some spring skiing. Had weather from 15 to 40 degrees over the course of the week, and this jacket was perfect for it all. For the price of this jacket, it is a great all purpose buy.

Done with Columbia.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Wish I had spent a little more on a better Jacket. Put a nice big rip in the arm the first year I had it tree skiing. Just not tough enough for hard use.

Awesome value for your buck

  • Gender: Male

I got this jacket for my 13 year old son. He loves it. I was not sure, because it is hard to judge style with teenagers, but he liked the color and the way it fit (kind of lose on him, 5'5'' and 105 lbs, and we got him a men's small) He has plenty of room to move while we ski and keeps him plenty warm.

Arms might be tight if you pump iron

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Feedback from a customer:
"The cut is snug in the upper arms for guys that lift weights so wearing a sweatshirt underneath is a little tight but the quality is great otherwise."

Taking this into account customer still rates it 5/5 and will be keeping the Jacket.

This jacket delivers

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I needed a jacket that can repel rain, ski/snowboard with, can wear to work/casually, keep my warm and not make me sweat when I go indoors and this jacket delivers. I had my doubts when I saw the foil looking inside and I thought there's no way it can keep me warm. I live in New York and this is perfect since it gets frigid/windy here. I don't question the mechanics of it all but it keeps me comfortably warm. I don't get sweaty and uncomfortable when I go indoors because the material dries sweat. I have mobility, move around easily, and it's not bulky. My only gripe is the backtail of the jacket is longer than the front which is probably designed to keep your butt from getting wet when snowboarding but just looks and feels weird to me. Also, when you zip the jacket all the way up, the zipper guards kind of get in the way and rub up on your neck and mouth. But other than that, 5 out of 5.
