The cold, harsh world is no place for a tyke, especially a tyke with no jacket. Columbia gave the Steens warm, quick-drying MTR fleece to make it a great spring-and-fall stand-alone jacket or a super-warm winter insulator when worn under a shell. Columbia has three seasons covered with the Steens Fleece Jacket.
Zippered hand-warmer pockets for snowball-fight relief
Full-front zipper for quick-out-the-door warmth
Standard fit means the Steens can be comfortably worn over a base layer and under a shell
Bottom Line: The world is a little less harsh when you’re draped in fleecy goodness.
You can't beat the price on these boy's jackets. I bought one for each of my sons. We live in Minnesota, and they've been wearing them as soon as we could ditch the heavy winter jackets. Perfect for early Spring/Fall weather, as well as cool summer nights.
Size wise, I'd order up a size. My five year old wears the size 8. And my 7 year old is wearing a 10-12.
Wow, Columbia fleece for $20 and with the coupon I received it cost me a penny! Gave it to my 10 year son, he has only taken it off to take a shower. Trying to convince him to just leave it on and trow some soap it it as well to wash it too! This is second item I purchased from backcounty this Christmas, pricing was unbelievable, shipping fast and product was as advertised.I'll keep coming back.

Very minimalistic. The fleece is thin and I'm not sure how well it will hold up after washing. My son says that it does little to cut the wind. Might work out better as insulation under another jacket. It also has a snaps on each side of the bottom rather than a drawstring. It looked better online than it does in real life.
I think a lot of it has to do with why Arc'teryx is much more expensive than The North Face. Part of it is definitely the name brand and image that goes with those brands, but also the quality of construction that goes into a piece. That being said I have found Columbia products to be good, but not as nice as brands like TNF and Arc'teryx. As to whether it is worth it, that varies from person to person. If you think it is worth it, then it is. For me, better quality is worth it.
I suggest, if you can, trying on a piece from several different brands. You may find that you prefer Columbia over some of the more expensive brands, and that's just fine.
Best of luck finding the right piece for your needs.
I gave this to my grandson for Christmas, & he loved it as well as the wool cap. The quality of both is superior and since my daughter has 3 little guys, I know this jacket will be passed down for years to come.
This is a sturdy, comfortable fleece jacket. My son loves everything about it - the intense red color, the snuggliness, the black stripe. Only criticisms: it's a bit stiff and not windproof. Not warm enough for blustery days or snowball fights, as the description suggests. It is holding up well to daily use.
I have trouble finding women's jackets to fit me, so I often buy children's jackets. This one is really nice & warm...I would definitely buy it again. It washes well and is a great everyday jacket for this time of year (April).
Very disappointed. This is one of 6 jackets that I purchased for a family for Christmas and the zipper broke. TWO of the six jackets had this same defect. I was disappointed that the quality was not what I had expected. These children love their new coats and it made me sad to know that I gave two of them a defective product. :( I have to say that the returns process was very easy though.
the measurement from the bottom of the collar to the bottom of the garment body is 23" and the sleeve. Measurements in addition to that are available on the size chart.
I will tell you that this piece has a generous fit.
I got this and the printed Fleece jacket, both at $15.95 which was value for money, but at $11.97, honestly, you really can't go wrong. I'm not a big guy, was looking for a good fleece as a mid layer but nothing too expensive. So after hunting around backcountry.com, found these, at the price couldn't go wrong. Good solid mid weight fleece, just what I was looking for. Only small thing is that I got the color Stryker, which looks like a brick brown, but it is more a bright orange. Does't bother me too much since it is a mid layer, and the bright orange helps me be seen in the grey winter days, but would be nice to have gotten the color I was expecting.
I ordered these jackets for my grandson who is 5. He loves them and so do I. I love the light weight and feel of the jackets. He actually can use them as a coat or a shirt. I also love the colors. I picked the green not knowing how it would be, but wanted a color he did not have, I think it is my favorite one, love the color. Also got a blue and the brown, all were very pretty! Love Backcountry...will order again soon.
I bought this for my 8-year old son and he loves it. It is light weight and perfect for fall/spring weather in Northern California. The electric avenue color looks fantastic on him. The price ($14.96) can't be beat. Highly recommended!
Columbia is my favourite brand-name. Main reason why I made an order of this item is: this fleece jacket I forgot in bus and nobody does not return it to me. But now I am happy - thanks to your e-shop I have the same jacket I had before - very touch-enjoyable material - everybody says: like a Teddy bear! I recommend it!
Write your question here... I need to buy a jacket for a boy of 9 yrs old, cheap and good quality.Could you tell me if this jacket of 16,00 is strong enough for the winter? Thank you for yr attention
I bought this for my nephew (10-years old) and he seemed to really like it. It did feel very soft and the weight is perfect for a cold day (he lives in southern Indiana, so "cold" is relative :) when you don't want a big jacket bogging you down. Also seems a good weight for after sports when it's chilly and you're sweaty.
My son loves it and wont take off the jacket even if its warm. Perfect for Southern Ca. weather. I bought the same fleece 2 yrs ago and it held up after washing so many times. The price is reasonable and the color goes with my sons uniform. Thanks

This is fitted a little loose, and made of a light weight fleece. Very soft and comfortable. It will will keep one warm down to ~35-40 degrees F if moving and there is no wind. Otherwise it is ok in the 40s to 50s depending on how warm you like to be. Not wind resistant.
This is my daughter's second one of this jacket. She said she wanted exactly what she had already. I was so happy to find it on your website because they are not in stores this time of year. She loves it and wears it almost daily. It is great over a sweater in the spring and fall, perfect as a liner under her winter coat and awesome on a cool summer evening. It is incredibly durable. It has pockets inside for holding gameboys, cell phones or a pair of gloves, and zippered outer pockets for holding money and keeping hands warm. She wore the last one for 2 1/2 years almost daily and it was still in great shape. She misplaced it and was heartbroken. We gave her a new larger one for her birthday and she was thrilled. She thinks it is "perfect"!
This fleece is great for cold fall/winter mornings. My son loves it because its comfortable and light weight. I wear it occasionally and its incredibly warm. Backcountry delivered it within a week to our DPO address.
Do yourself (and your kid) a favor - never buy North Face or Columbia. Stick to Patagonia, Marmot or Burton. But who can afford a $90 jacket that the kid is going to outgrow in less than a year?
I was looking for a jacket just like this--but I'm a mom, not a son! I wear an 8 in Misses sizes, and the boys Large is perfect (I thought maybe XL, but it was too big and I had to exchange.) This is exactly what I wanted, and couldn't find in the women's section.
How does the weight of this fleece compare to the Polartec weights (i.e.: 100, 200, 300, 400)? We are getting ready to move to AK, and I am looking for a good 300 weight layer for the kids.Thanks.
Look great, feel great. This is one warm item the boys like to wear. Mom is so glad, especially on cold, rainy days when they can't stand to wear anything but shorts and short-sleeve t's. These jackets still keep them warm.
