Alien-sized hood, Too Warm?

Agree w/ others that it's oddly proportioned. Arms are longer than legs. This is less of a problem than the hood which is huge. Maybe it's made to go over a hat but..trust me, this suit is WARM and another hat is not necessary for the city and in the car. My son is always sweating until his hair looks washed. The hood is like a huge bulb but elasticated (not adjustable) around the face. I need to fold the elastic back, but it doesn't stay in place. My other complaint is the top of the zipper is not covered with a "lip" but with a "flap" so it cuts into his chin. I still give this 4 stars b/c it's well made, not too bulky, cute, easy to get in/out, very warm. I bought it so that I don't need to deal with blankets in the car seat but that also means I cannot layer the heat. He's just sweating all the time. Probably perfect for the mountains though.
Perfect

This is just what I needed for my now 2 1/2 month old son. It fits perfect with a fleece bunting underneath and should last this whole season. He is always warm when I take him out of it after being outdoors for a few hours. This makes it so much easier for us to enjoy our outdoor lifestyle that we love!
Runs big

This bunting is pretty nice and toasty, but it runs big. My baby was 28" tall and 20 lbs, and according to the chart he was right in the middle of the 12M size, so I ordered that first. Turns out its huge, so I ended up returning it and getting one size down and it fits perfectly. I bought another Columbia bunting (fleece) and the same thing happened. Other than that, it's great.
Just what I wanted!

I was so happy to find a 24 month bunting to fit my 5 month old big baby who outgrew his infant seat just before winter and is too broad for Coats to zip up right. The only thing I would change is to line the hood with fleece but I love not having to mess with mittens, boots and blankets to keep my baby warm!

Juli-- great pic. What size suit are they in? Is that the 6 mos size? I am just trying to see how my daughter will fit -- she's 12 lbs and 24 inch long
Best choice

Very nice infant gear, high quality fabric, beautiful color. Looks thin, but we hope it'll be warm the same time.
Excellent Kids Product and Warm - But Beware the Sizing!

I'll start with the good because I only have one really negative comment and some cautions. It was the easiest winter garment I've used for putting a baby / small child in for going out in Dec-Feb, when temps are in the 20's and Teens. I bought this for my 2nd son, since I remember how hard it is dealing with dressing a baby in winter clothing. This was by far the fastest type garment I've used. I would recommend to any parent who needs simplicity in dressing a baby, especially since they're either limp or fighting or alternating when you're in a rush. I found that when out on days when in the teens my son didn't seem the least bit uncomfortable, and when extracting him from the bunting he was toasty on all his limbs and core. The quality is good and the right amount of insulation for a baby.
My criticism is mostly due to sizing...I should have heeded the other reviews and gone with the 18 month sizing instead of the 12 month. My son was 9-10 months at the time and it became too small to use the hand and feet covers that are such a great feature. The answer is to just buy one size larger than youre inclined to order. I would recommend it to anyone needing to simplify the dressing process with their baby in the cold weather. Two words of caution to parents: 1. your child will become very difficult to hold, especially when you are also wearing an outer garment made of ripstop or other low friction material and 2. If outside for extended periods, make sure to add mittens and heavy socks (in addition to the covers) to your little one because the covers for their feet and hands are not insulated. Short periods like going to the car or in the car the baby should be fine. I took my son out for a short stroll during the winter and got back into the house and undressed him, everything was perfectly toasty except his feet and hands were chilly. While they were colder than I thought they should have been, the feet and hands are actually in the arms and legs of the suit so they arent completely exposed. Columbia could actually insulate these areas and then it would be close to perfect.

strange proportions

The jacket is well made and seems warm. The proportion of the length of the arms compared to the legs is off, though. The legs are too short while the cuffs hang well past my child's fingertips. The torso is really short, too. The jacket almost seems to be made for a monkey with these proportions. If you have boots for your child, you could make this work by purchasing two sizes larger.
It's a great jacket otherwise. Not too puffy or restrictive. Fits well with the car seat. Easy to put on and take off. Keeps my child warm in the Northeast winter with temps regularly in the teens.
However, I'm already looking for another jacket because my child has already outgrown this in less than one month-- and I purchased one size bigger than what I thought I needed. For reference, other clothes purchased in this size still fit.

I was worried about a trip to Philadelphia where I would have to take my 12 month old outside for hours at a time. Turns out this bunting did a great job keeping my child warm. In fact it might have been a bit too warm, judging by the heat that I felt leaking out when I unzipped him. I would highly recommend this item for anybody who is planning to spend extended periods of time outdoors with their baby. I ordered the 18 month size for my 12 month old and it didn't leave much room to grow, and my son is only in the 50 percentile for size, so you may want to order larger just to be safe.

If you need something really warm, this is it. We live in Alaska and sometimes it gets as low as -60 here. If I put a sweatshirt on my son and this over top many times he will come out of it sweaty! Most of the time a long sleeve t-shirt is all he needs. I would recommend that if you plan to use the fold over cuffs to cover your baby's hand and feet that you order up a size. I didn't and had to reorder. Also, I love how easy it is to zip in and out of.

What is the length of the suit from the shoulders to the feet?

I'm not sure what size you are looking at, but I'll give you what I have and hopefully it will help. The 18 month suit measures about 27 inches from shoulder to foot and the 24 month suit measures about 29.5 inches.

I forgot to mention that I ordered the 12 month size for my boys that are 20 1/2 pounds and 29 inches long. They are a great fit. They are easy to put on and there is still enough room in case I want to put a fleece on underneath (which I have not done yet).
Love it!

I bought two of these bunting outfits for my twin boys. I am very happy with them. I use them daily for walks- so far I have used them in temperature ~20 degrees Fahrenheit. The boys are always toasty warm; although when it's a little colder I do put wool socks on their hands and feet to keep them extra warm. I would not use these outfits for traveling if they are in the car a lot. I stopped using them for running errands because the boys were actually sweating in them- way too hot. Overall, a great product.

We bought this for our 9 month old son for the cold winters in northern Michigan. So far, so good! I wish I would have bought the 18 month size. He typically wears 9 momth clothes so I though the 12 month size would be plenty big enough, but with the foot and hand cuffs folded over, it's actually too small for him. It's easy to put on and keeps him very warm, although it is not breathable so he is often sweaty coming out of it. I would recommend this to other people looking to keep their babies nice and cozy in a cold winter.

I really like this. Looks like it will be very warm on the coldest of days. Just what I need to keep my little ones warm this winter for the outdoors. And about ½ the price of the competitors I feel like it is a steal at $49. I like the covers on the hands and feet. I think it will be great for camping as well. Its so hard to keep the little ones covered up at night. This is like his own little down sleeping bag. It runs maybe a tad on the big side but seemed pretty accurate for size. He looks a bit like the kid from Christmas story that cant put his arms down. But hey at least he will be warm. The color of the fire red is more fire orange. It is kind of a burnt orange or a rust color. The color of the red has more orange and is a little more muted than in the pic. Fire red is a good description but fire is really quite orange. Its a nice color but dont expect it to be bright red.
I am going to use it with the little D Fleece Bunting. Dont get me wrong the Down looks quite warm and .

Is it Ok to wear it when outside is about minus 20 - 25 Celsius? Or it's not warm enough?

this will be a great insulation piece for temperatures as cold as that, with proper layering of course. I hav ea number of people outfitting their little ones for temperatures colder than that.

definitely. If your baby is outside for a while it would be perfect. In the car I find that I have to take the hood off and unzip it quite a bit though or they get quite sweaty. I live where it stays -20 to -25 Celsius most of the winter and even gets as low as -76 Celsius at times and it works great to keep my son nice and toasty.

1. What that the "Limited lifetime " means?
2. Will this snowsuit be GOOD for my 1y6m boy & girl (I mean wearing the suit). Or it is good for smaller babies?
Jeff Kendall
Member since
1. limited to the lifespan of a normal garment. In this case kiddo warmwear can be passed on and on. There is a reasonable limit of time set to it. Usually about 4 model years.
2. this is a very good and warm suit. If they will be in the snow-- read as "playing, digging and forcing water at the seams"-- then a rougher, tumbler suit will offer a better barrier. Look at the Dobby for instance

size dimensions? for what size? the center back length of a 12 mo. size is 10.25. that should be a good scale to extrapolate by.

From the shoulder to the ankle (or bottom of the foot - depending on whether you intend on using the fold over foot cuffs) the 18 month size measures about 27 inches and the 24 month size measures 29.5 inches.
