used to be great

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:Runs small

I've worn these shorts for 10 years or so, gone through 4-5 pairs, surfing, rivers, swimming, diving, hiking, kickin'it...The old ones were the best; 2 HUGE cargo pockets with zippers, a zippered back pocket, two mesh front pockets. A full cut. A comfortable, stretchy mesh liner. Add a stretchy belt with a bomber ladder-lock buckle, these short never came off once.

Now, the Snake River "11" shorts are here. Reverse everything I just said; only ONE zippered pocket (in a river short?), and it's too small to put anything in. All the other pockets "close" with the smallest piece of velcro you've ever seen. The belt stretches no longer and has a cheap, flimsy buckle that comes apart at the smallest movement. Worse of all, if you're a man, the mesh liner is cut so tight and is so non-stretchy that your junk feels like it's being squished in a vice.

Like I said: used to be great. Now just cheap and a rip-off, IMHO

After reading this review I'm taking my junk somewhere else.

Laid back style

Great when not trying to look like a frat boy at the beach. They pretty much look like regular shorts when not in the water. The zippered pocket is nice for stuff like a credit card style room key that can get wet, but not get lost. They dry really fast which is a plus. The belt is not an actual belt that goes all the way around your waist, it kind of attaches to an elastic piece inside the waistband. The design makes them a lot more comfortable, just don't plan on clipping much on your waist on anything like that. These shorts are typical Columbia quality so if the style fits your taste, the performance will not disappoint.

    Awesome in the water

I love these shorts! They're comfortable in the water, they dry quickly, and the zipper pockets make storing things very convenient. The waistband adjusts very quickly and easily. I'm a 5'10" 32 waist and the large fits comfortably, and goes almost down to my knees.
