Silver Ridge Convertible Pant - Women's

Columbia re-writes the book on convertible trekking pants with the Silver Ridge Women’s Convertible Pant. Don’t let the trim, feminine cut of the pant fool you; it offers all the performance features you need for a day on the trails. Two-way stretch fabric and gussets ensure maximum mobility, while Omni-Dry advanced evaporation, and vents concealed in the curved back yoke keep you from overheating. Zip Zip-off legs convert the pants to shorts when you emerge from the shadows of the woods to the sunny mountainside meadow. Thanks to the ankle zippers, you can slide them on an off easily, even over hiking boots.

Bottom Line: A better-looking, better-performing convertible.

Good Design...

...is more than just aesthetics! Speaking of which, the pants are much nicer in person, but I'm especially impressed with the functional design elements. My trip got cancelled, so I can only speak to fit and looks at this point. I'm curvy on bottom and as some of the other reviewers said, it is snug on my hips and thighs, but the crotch is gusseted and the fabric has a bit of stretch, so I don't find them constricting. They are long, but the underside of the cuffs has a drawstring so it can be worn snug around your ankle with the pants above slightly billowing over the drawstring. I thought it looked cute as well as functional for keeping dust, bugs and other debris out of your pant leg. The curved back yoke-cum-back pocket flap is a nice detail. The sleek silhouette of the pants with the discretely placed non-bulky pockets works well for me. Not being mechanically inclined, I thought the zipped convertible shorts-pants part would be clumsy; wrong. It took about two seconds to zip the pant leg off and back on again. The shorts are the perfect length for cooler coverage. The fabric is on the lighter side with a slightly crisp hand.

Trying to get a sense of these pants in comparison to the Aruba

Trying to get a sense of these pants in comparison to the Aruba Series of pants from Columbia ... are they about the same weight/thickness?

this pant is more substantial, abrasion resistant and tougher. That will make it heavier on the scale, and the additional panels and fit processes will make it carry better on the body and fit so much better. Given my 'druthers, I'd take Silver Ridge gear any day for the construction.

not recommended if you have a curvy shape

By:
June 6, 2010

Not so great as it turns out. I have an hourglass but yet athletic body shape, with a smaller waist and larger hips and I found that the waist fit perfectly (since it was smaller-cut) but the hips were way too tight. These pants don't fit that well for women with some shape. Boy-shaped types would probably like the cut. Nice concept with the zip-offs and the shorts part not being overly long, though. I ended up returning these in search of ones more suitable for my body type

Are these pants low rise, med. rise or what? Do they fit true

Are these pants low rise, med. rise or what? Do they fit true to size? Columbia has tended to run short in stride and fit smaller. Thanx.

Fabulous pants and an awesome deal.

I love the pants. I usually wear a ten if I want a snug fit and a twelve for a loose fit. I chose a loose fit , 12, since I hike in California and don't want my pants sticking to my body if I sweat. I must say these pants are extremely comfy and very lightweight. The legs remove easily. I would prefer that the removable pant legs were labeled. But, it was quite easy to label the inside of the legs with a black sharpie. Pant legs slide over my boots easily. Great price and bought a second pair at the store down the street in a different color, because I loved my backcountry pair and wanted an additional pair in a different color. Choose a looser fit, unless you have a great body. You don't want the fat on your hips magnified, since the material is very thin, lightweight and cool. Nice stretch as well. If the waist is too big, the pants are thin and can easily be belted.

Yay, Columbia! Awesome pants!!!

Tall curvy girls -- rejoice! I'm 5'10" with a 34" inseam, 145-150 lbs, with a small waist and "substantial" hips and I have a really hard time finding hiking pants that fit. These pants are GREAT -- the long length is perfect for me, and there is no gapping at the waist. The pants have a good amount of stretch in them, too, and the simple styling (lack of cargo pockets) doesn't accentuate my curvy hips and thighs. I can't stop saying it -- these pants are awesome! Very cute as shorts, too!
A word on the color -- I ordered them in "Tank," and as the name would suggest, they are more of an army green than a grass green, as they appear in the picture (at least on my computer).
I'll say it again -- yay, Columbia!

seem big

By:

These run big/wide. And long. Even the short lenghth runs long. My size 6-S has an inseam thats over 31 inches long. The crotch length on the Regular lenghth fit me better, but the legs on those were crazy long.
Tall girls are going to love these.

Nice Fit

By:
May 7, 2010

Nice fit, light weight. I have a small waist, so they are a little big for me, but should fit perfect for most ladies. The legs were long enough which also tends to be a challenge for me. Just don't wear them in the woods or in the bushes. I made that mistake. THEY SNAG!

Extremely long - even for talls!

By:
July 26, 2010

I am 5'11 with a 36" inseam, so I often even have to have tall length pants let down. This is my first pair of hiking pants that are long enough without any alterations! Needless to say I am very excited and can't wait to take them on my trip to Patagonia!

Also - a reviewer below said that these didn't fit her because she has a curvy body type. I am not curvy and these fit perfectly and were true to size.
