When you’re limited as to what you can bring on your camping trip, pack the Columbia Women’s Silver Ridge Convertible Pant with you. Its pant legs zip off to give you a ten-inch short to use when temperatures really start to heat up. The Silver Ridge’s flattering fit and active stretch fabric makes this pant easy to wear when you’re hiking up a mountain and running errands around town with your dog. Omni-Wick technology wicks moisture away from your body so you stay dry, and its UPF 50-rated fabric helps protect you from the sun’s relentless rays during a long trek in the mountains. Hidden vents also help cool you down, and a zip-closed security pocket comes in quite handy when you’re traveling through a sketchy part of town.

Typical Columbia: too long

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I love Columbia apparel but their pants have always been long (while waist and hips fit) and the short versions are almost non existent!

I am 5'4" and 105 lbs, a typical Columbia XS or 2. I bought this pant in 2 regular. The waist and hips fit great but the inseam is still long, about 1-2 inches below my heels. Wearing with hiking boots are find coz they'll just fall on the boots. However they always touch the ground and get easily torn if I wear athletic shoes.

Above all, it's light weight, super breathable, and very important to slim girls like me, not too bulky.

I'm still searching for a pair of hiking pants that fit well and looks cool. This pair is by far the best but not perfect.

Durable, comfortable pants

First, the one thing I find annoying with these pants is that thread loops keep popping out of the seams. I cut the thread and it's fine - no structural damage or unravelling. But overall just annoying that I have to keep trimming threads.

Otherwise, these pants are a solid pair of multi-use pants. I wore these pants throughout a 5 week backpacking/camping trip around Europe and they're nice enough (even after the wear and tear from the trip) that I can wear them to work. They dry quickly and certainly air out well (I don't remember washing them at all during the 5 weeks in Europe...). They are nice and comfy with a good amount of stretch in them. I'm 6ft tall and the 34" long inseam was a good fit for hiking pants.

    Love them!

Just took at trip to Mt. Shasta, Lake Tahoe, Zion NP, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Redwoods, Sequoias, Yosemite, and points in between. Was in temps ranging from 30 to close to 100 ... sometimes within the same day. While the couple we were with changed pants sometimes more than once a day, my husband and I just zipped ours off within a few seconds. It was so convenient. These pants look and feel great. I will get more and that is probably all I will take on our next venture. It is easier than packing both pants and shorts. Love them!
