Columbia made this rain jacket with a hard shell fabric that's 100% waterproof. The Shelter Cove Jacket has a 100% polyester knit back that wicks sweat if you decide to hike through the storm. Welded seams won't let even the tiniest drop in this jacket. Vented front and back panels dump heat when you work hard.

Bottom Line: Take shelter from the storm without taking your tarp out of the pack. Just slip on the Columbia Shelter Cove Jacket.

This appears to be a true rain, so is not breathable in that way a Gore tex or other technical shell is. It does have vents, which might help.

Leaks in Heavy Rain

I purchased the jacket for a new job I got as a dog walker. I take dogs hiking in the woods for 1.5 to 2 hours, twice a day.

I found that in a light rain, it was perfectly waterproof. But a few weeks ago, we got a much needed deluge. It rained very heavily all day.

My shirt got soaked. It seems to leak where the zipper is.

I had condensation occur on mine and found that a wicking shirt beneath made it much more comfy. i also moved into a rain hat to cover more of my face and the top of the jacket
