Before stepping out into wet weather, arm yourself with the Columbia Women’s Ramble Rain Jacket. Constant drizzle, unexpected showers, and all-day gullywashers meet their match thanks to the Omni-Tech waterproof breathable protection that extends from the tip of the adjustable storm hood to the mid-thigh hem. Fully taped hems and a snap-close storm flap provide extra protection from the elements, and a mesh lining adds to the Ramble Rain’s breathability and against-the-skin comfort. Contrast stitching and feminine lines insert a dash of style, and the Camo Base fabric boasts a soft hand.

Bottom Line: Get ready to Ramble.

Hi Luci,
This jacket isn't built specifically for warmth, but is a mid-thigh length rain jacket for warmer temps. However, If you wish to wear in colder temps (30 degrees), I would suggest wearing a layer or two under it, in which case you might have to buy a size larger to accommodate the extra layers, depending on your fit preferences. I hope this helps.

Great jacket, love the longer length. Only complaint would be the smaller hood for when its really raining but overall a great jacket.

I usually wear medium on jackets (5'7/150LB) but I'm wondering if this jacket runs small, especially around the hips -anyone knows? I will NOT be layering...

I am actually size small, really slim, BUT got this raincoat in medium, and it fits very well.
I risked it, because was not sure - some of the raincoats I had tried were more generous, when a medium woul dbe HUGE on me, and some seemed simmer cut, - I think this one is one of those.

Stick with the medium and you'll be fine.

I've been searching all over for a reasonably priced, well fitting, rain jacket. I am 5'4, 114 lbs. I was having a hard time finding a jacket that fit me without looking so baggy. Ramble fit the bill. The jacket is not baggy, its thickness is perfect (so you aren't sweating buckets) and the length was exactly what i wanted; comes to about mid thigh. I got a small. The sleeves are about 1/2 inch too long, but there is velco at the wrist to tighten so that works. There is definitely room to put a sweatshirt as a layer (I think the XS would not have been more fitted, but not allowed for layering). Someone posted something about the zipper....and I have to agree. It is very tough to zipper up. I am hoping with more wears it will get easier. Still not a reason for me to send it back, as I've had such a hard time finding something. All in all, thumbs up for me.

Interesting, I have Marmot Destination Jacket, and the Columbia Ramble Jacket, and should say that the Marmot's zipper is MUCH harder to get in vs. the Columbia one.
I can EASILY get the zipper in when the Marmot jacket is lying flat on the couch, but when it is on me, I had to do MULTIPLE attempts to zip it - very annoying.
With the Columbia jacket, the zipper just works...
I guess, it is the difference between the 2 that made me so skillful))))))))))))

I need a light weight packable raincoat for travel in Italy in mid Sept. Would this be easily packable and light?

This jacket is fantastic for your application. It is lightweight, packs away small and will keep you dry without the clammy feel. It isn't designed to pack into its own pocket, but it will come out of your bag and shake out to not look like a raisin.

Close fit

This is a very nice jacket, but unfortunately I have to return it. This jacket is cut for a slim woman. I am a standard size medium, but there isn't enough room for anything but a lightweight top underneath. The jacket curves in at the waist and would not fit someone with slightly large hips. I also had difficulty with the zipper. I tried many times to insert the bottom of the zipper before it finally inserted properly. That, in itself, would be reason to return it, even if it fit better.

I love the length of this jacket, but I was wondering how lightweight

I love the length of this jacket, but I was wondering how lightweight it is. Is it lined or more of a shell? In other words.. could I wear this in the summer months or would I be too hot?

the answers below are a bit confusing... the 10K is refering to the waterproofness. 10m of direct water pressure will not permeate this fabric, and that's about 6X the pressure of a 250lb man on one knee in a puddle. The breathability is in question here and OmniTech is testing more breathable at temps closer to body temperature. most other membranes need that clammy feel to work, and OmniTech does not.

There is also a lightweight mesh lining in this that will protect the membrance from abrasion. It is intended for warmer weather and not built for insualtion

Totally agree with Josh, for the price it will keep you dry but on warm and humid days it will feel a little clammy inside. You would need to step-up to something made of Gore-tex to breathe better but that also means a much higher price tag. I also look for pit-zips if possible to help on those warm and rainy days.

Hey Katie,

Definitely more of a shell. However with the 10k rated breathability you might get the "clammy" feel.

Light and nice feeling I Love it

By:
June 14, 2011

The jacket feels light and smooth. I bought the red in XS. Fitting works for my 5'00 size and the color is a nice shade of red. Also the jacket doesn't have a heavy plastic feeling. I tried it by going out on my bike under a light rainy night. It works great under Honolulu weather conditions.

I need a jacket that will keep out the random Irish rain shower.

I need a jacket that will keep out the random Irish rain shower. I'm 5'9" and 150 lbs with long arms and would like to be able to layer a fleece underneath. Will the medium fit well or should I get a large?

Cambrie,

With jackets, sizing up is rarely a bad idea, especially if you plan on layering or have unique body-type considerations. I think you'd be safe to purchase the large, but if it turns out that's not what you needed, backcountry.com is really good about prompt returns on sizing issues.

Happy trails!

Close fitting

By:
March 31, 2011

I just received my Rambling Rain jacket in preparation for moving to Portland, OR. I ordered an XS and am just over 5 feet tall and weigh 95 pounds. The jacket is close fitting and it was too tight through the arms and chest for me to wear a fleece under it. I am returning it for a small. My arms are short and fortunately the velcro allows me to adjust the sleeves at the wrist. I would like it if the jacket were even a few inches longer. The hood seems great. I had no trouble with the zipper or snaps and I love the Burnt Henna color. I have not as yet worn this coat in the rain, so will report back later when I hope to give it 5 stars. I liked it enough to try a larger size.
