When you get out of town for a backpacking trip, pack the Columbia Men's Silver Ridge Cargo Shorts for comfort on the trail. This highly breathable nylon short wicks sweat and breathes well, so you to stay cool and dry bounding over rocks and downed logs. Columbia added a self-belt for a worry-free fit and treated the Omni-Dry Silver Ridge II Short with its Omni-Shade UPF 30 protection to keep your brawny thighs burn free. Stuff this lightweight Columbia short in your backpack or luggage—they hardly take up any room and double as swim trunks when you forget to bring your boardies.
Bottom Line: Wear the Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge II Cargo Short when the backcountry beckons.
These are pretty good shorts, they are very cool in the summer and dry very fast. The fit is a little weird for a bigger guy, I can't pinpoint what the issue is, there is just something weird feeling. The belt is crap though in my opinion, I took it off the 3 pairs I have.

Im a fan of columbia sportswear. Just like all of their clothing, these shorts are light weight, durable and fit great. UPF protection is a plus, and although I bought them for outdoors use, I find myself using them everyday. They are not bulky or heavy, dry well and keep you cool in the Florida sun. I did find them a little cheaper at BPS, but still a good price here for quality without going broke. Primary use: Fishing
I absolutely love these shorts. They roll up very compact. Do not hold dirt and dry very quickly. The pockets are great on these and the zipper closure on one of the back pocket is key for wallet security ( My buddy lost his wallet with velcro closures in the backcountry.. I felt secure knowing there was no way for mine to get out ). I wear a 38 and have big legs so usually have trouble getting a good fit in shorts but the XL (40-42) fit great.
I got this pair of shorts for hiking but they are so comfortable and stylish that I have used them for casual wear to work. Since I got the shorts, I have worn it to hike Half Dome, Mt Baldy and Mt Baden-Powell. It was comfortable and, more importantly, it withstood the hard work. On the Mist Trail to Half Dome, I got wet from the spray off Vernal Falls. The shorts was almost dry by the time I got to the top of the fall.
I tried on these shorts today in the local store and it seemed like my wallet hung really low because both back pockets are very deep. Is this an issue to anyone else? I'm sure some simple stitching would fix this...
I bought two of these just prior to hiking in the Canadian Rockies. As others have mentioned, the belt is useless, but the shorts are great; especially liked the inner zipped pocket. They fit great, dry quickly and can be your attire for three days while Untied Airlines tries to figure out a strategy for getting your luggage to you.

Very good choice in shorts, belt it not worth keeping in my opinion, its cheap and a hassle, but an alternative is the patagonia friction belt, it looks sweet but not to get off subject, these shorts are very light and dry extremely quickly, the are rather thin material making it easy to move around in and great for the summer, would recommend
I researched quite a few shorts and these are some of the best for your money. I did have to size up for a more comfortable feel but the belt included is nice and I love the zipped security pocket. They are very light and easy to move in. A+ overall!
I am a woman, looking for a good pair of nylon cargo shorts. My waist is 31 inches and hips 40 1/2 inches. Will the Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge II Cargo Shorts - Men's in size Medium, fit me?
Mens medium = 30-32 inch waist, large=32-34, xl= 34-36. not sure how this would translate to hip width but hoepfully this helps some. the Silver Ridge short also runs a bit slim due to the active cut so maybe order one size up from normal.
Compared with Northface and moa ( a pair of shorts I picked up in NZ) the Omni-dry are as good if not better. The fabric is light, comparable to moa, and much lighter than the Northface fabric. The fit in medium is comparible to the medium in Nothface and the small in moa. Two suggestions for Columbia, put a snap on the front rather than a button, and put the sippered hip pocket on the left rather than the right.
These are great for everything. Hiking/Backpacking, Disc Golf, watching TV on the couch, it doesn't matter these are great shorts. They dry quickly, the length isn't too long or too short, they have pockets for everything you'll need to carry. Can't beat em... have 3 pairs myself
These shorts do everything they are billed to do, and as long as you are wearing them on backcountry trails all is good. Unfortunately the are the are the most unsightly and poor fitting hiking shorts I have ever bought. Keep that in mind.
I have a couple of pairs of the prior version of the Omni-Dry shorts and I wear them daily in the summer. I was therefore very disappointed when I got the current version. They are extremely short in the crotch, which is not want one wants in activewear shorts. I returned the product and my quest continues for the previous combination of a great fabric and a comfortable fit.
I bought two pair of these and was so pleased that I bought 2 additional pair. They are light weight, wash well, and dry quickly. Easy to pack because they are so lightweight. Best for hiking long distances because they wick. Strongly recommend for the active person.
I bought the Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge Shorts about three weeks ago as warmer weather started to break through the cold Utah winters. I have a 30 inch waist and I ordered the size "S/10" and they fit perfectly around the waist. The bottom of the shorts themselves end just above the knee.
These are just typical cargo shorts, but they are very comfortable, well-constructed, and double well as a swim trunk like the description says. Great for hiking, great for casual wear, etc. I'd definitely recommend these shorts to friends.
