The ten-mile loop is a cinch with your gear packed away in the ultra-light Columbia Mobex Backpack. Set your time record on the fork trail, despite the constant weather changes that make you switch from fleece to rain gear as you come around the backside of the mountain. When you descend out of the clouds, use the cinch-cord system to attach your drippy jacket to the outside of the Mobex.
Omni-shield advanced repellency keeps the rain from ruining your turkey sub or cell phone while they’re stashed inside the Mobex
Lightweight shoulder straps breathe when your body is in overdrive
Quick-draw mesh water bottle pocket is attached to the hip-belt holster-style so you can drink on the move
Main compartment opens up clam-shell style so you can pack it easily and get to the bottom without repacking
Internal gear organization holds everything in place, and doesn’t bounce around as you rock-hop down from the summit
Bottom Line: Mountains determine the weather, not the forecast\227be ready with the loaded Mobex.
Would it be easy to fold this pack up to fit inside a larger backpack? I'm looking for something to use as a summit pack to make it to the top of a mountain after leaving my large pack in basecamp. I want something that can wrap up pretty small. I'm debating between this and the North Face Verto 26
initial thoughts: wow this is light. i think that is mainly because the skeleton makes the pack look bigger than the 1587cu inches. weighed in at 28.5oz, or 1lb 12.5oz.
i like the idea of the bottle holder on the waist belt but was skeptical it would work for hiking or running because of it's location relative to arm carriage. it really doesn't work. obviously for running it's in the way. for hiking it might be tolerable for some, not for me. i won't use.
the other waist belt feature is the adventure race style pocket on the right side of the hip belt. i love it. i'm a fan of having food and maybe a camera handy and available without having to remove the pack to get at things while you are moving. so that pocket is money for me.
i thought the backpack was pretty comfy. i think the waist belt buckle attached to just one side is interesting, but not sure if that longer strap will come lose and flap around more often than not. we'll see.
bottom line: solid light hiking backpack with tons of great room inside, comfy fit, worthless bottle holder & great pocket.

you can easily let this one ride low for comfort and sit on your hips. It is super stable and lightweight. If you want a little bit more length, go for the XL
When I got this pack I was shocked by its design. After using it however it all made sense and I love it. Super light weight and easy to use. The inside is separated into compartments, which are adjustable and the frame is very comfortable. This is a great day hiker bag as well as a bag for on the go activities. It seems durable and has the little things like pockets and water bottle holders where you need them as well. Stoked!
nordic skiing? absolutely. Alpine Skiing? it will do, but it isn't as low-profile and close to the body as the Columbia Stryker or Ranger. shape and structure would necessitate that you remove the pack for lift chair seating
This is a great design. The flexible yet sturdy external frame maintains the form of the pack, such that the contents don't get squashed and mangled. An internal mesh divider keeps things secure and internal pockets are great for things like your wallet or cell phone. The pack weighs next to nothing - which lets me use it for everything from trail runs to trips to town.
I've got a friend that uses this pack with a 2L bladder. He said a 3L can get in there but it makes the backpack a little weird and uncomfortable then.
I was so stoked for this pack's release back in the Spring. My girlfriend surprised me with it and I was eager to give it a try. I used this pack for mountain biking, trail running, and day hiking.
The Good: - This thing is super lightweight. There is no denying that. And, although I expected the thin fabric to shred, there isnt even a scrape.
- The mesh shoulder straps are really nice and innovative. It really does help to keep my front half cool.
-The mesh bottle holders on the side are a nice feature. They expand to hold the standard Nalgene.
-The thing looks pretty darn cool. It definitely has a unique design.
The Bad: - I could never get the pack to fit correctly. It always bounced around. It was pretty annoying.
- The shoulder strap ripped on the first use/ first day hike with the pack.
- The back panel does not breathe at all. My back is absolutely soaked when I take it off.
- The internal design is off point. I dont like all the pouch nonsense in the bottom. It proved to be more in the way than useful.
Flexible light pack that has lots of storage room and individual pockets to store the little things like keys or wallet. Took it bouldering last weekend and was able to fit everything I needed. The pack is nice and light and fits comfortably no matter how much gear you pack in it.
