Loved at first but now returning

My husband LOVED these pants when he first got them. He has a tendancy to turn all clothes into "work clothes," but he really kept these pants nice and only wore them when he was "clean." Even so, the thighs and backside started to fray and wear thin after about a year or so of normal use. After about a year and a half, they got so bad he couldn't really wear them anymore. Much to our sadness (they looked good on him too!), we're returning these pants. We'd love to try another pair, especially since we're the only ones who seem to have this problem, but they're out of stock on the website.

***NOTE: This pant DOES have a gusseted crotch.***

The Lander pant is a compromise between your Carhartts and your Dockers. The Ridge cloth is not as heavy as canvas, but it isn't as light as a casual pant either. Still, it is soft, comfortable, and has held up to some unkind use. The gusseted crotch opens the pants up for climbing duty. The zipper pocket is tucked in at the right seam and the right front pocket has a cell phone catch in the bottom. All the major seams are double stitched, with triple stitching at the pockets.

The waist fit true to size, but the rest of the pant felt a bit too loose for my taste. The legs do taper a bit, but with a fabric as soft as this, and a full length gusset, Columbia could have taken out more material. The 17" cuff opening is perfect for boots but a little too large for regular shoes.

These are a pretty true straight leg pant that does fine in town and at the crag.

Lander Pants - by Columbia

The men in my family LOVE these pants! 25-56 yrs. I noticed the colors/size options are dwindling and hope it's only because new colors are coming out and not that they aren't going to make them anymore!

best pants

I LOVE THESE PANTS. I was on the fence about getting them but more than happy that I did. I wear them more than any other pants. Very comfortable on the trails and in the city.

Great pants

They fit. They are one of the pants that come in lengths for tall people (34" inseam) that are not big (32" waist). Tough to beat the price. Good looking and fabric feels good.

lander pant

Overall very comfortable mid weight cotton/canvas type pant.

Good deep main side and rear pockets.

Strong belt loops.

I do have some doubts how they will hold up over time, that said, overall a nice pant and time will tell.

A light iron and these would be fine in most environments up to business casual.

Sizing can be off on these between pair, so be warned of that. Columbia needs to do better in that department.

These pants are durable. I currently have 3 pair that I use for work, which involves A LOT of walking. The stash pocket on the thigh is by no means a cargo pocket (it's smaller and has an open top), but is extremely useful and was one of the main reasons I bought these pants. The leg has a full gusset from ankle up to the crotch, not sure how useful it is though. These pants are a heavier fabric with double stitching through much of the pant - good for heavy use. The front pockets are unique, but do not detract from the pant. They won't pass for slacks in a pinch like some khaki pants can, but look sharp none the less.

Great all around pants

Love these pants! Great fit - room to move but not baggy. Soft and comfortable but durable too. These are my go anywhere pants!

weird size but nice pants

Just like so many Columbia products, the sizing totally varies. I ordered two of these pants (Fossil and Trail) in the same size; one color fit, the other did not. Same problem with the shorts I ordered. Columbia makes some nice gear, too bad you never know whether or not something will fit.

Get them, you'll like them

Good durable, roomy, functional pants for the BC price. I have several pair that I wear for work.

inseam gusset makes em comfortable

great pants. i especially like the full length inseam gusset which adds comfort and freedom of movement. only problem I had is the bottom hems frayed long before the rest of the pants became worn out.

Landers Are the Best

I wear these pants to work everyday. They are very comfortable and versatile. I just bought 2 more pairs, to date that makes a dozen.

I'm Buying 2 More Pairs

I got the trail color, which was pretty close to the pictures. The fabric feels durable, and it didn't shrink after 1 wash and dry. The right-side pocket (last picture titled "trail side" pocket) fits an iPhone perfectly for easy in-out. The main side pockets, including the zip-up, are deep. The fit is loose all around, with an accurate waist, which sits much higher than the boot cut I normally wear. The bottoms seem to taper in, so when I'm not wearing shoes, they're right at floor level, but when wearing shoes, the narrower opening rides a few inches off the ground (so it's not dragging around the ground). I'm used to boot cut, so I like a wide opening, but these are actually good too--you get the benefit of a longer pants without them dragging on the ground and wearing away.I'm buying two more pairs in the Fossil and Alpine Tundra colors--that's how much I like these.

Update: So I bought one of each color. The Alpine Tundra looks gray in these pics, but are actually more green, like military OD. All of the colors on this site are too bright--much darker in person.

-2 Stars: After washing these with normal wear, the material on the knees are already starting to fray! I don't think these will last more than 2 years with normal wear. But it's $30, so you get what you pay for.

Awesome pants!

Love these things! They sit a little high on the hip, but they are super comfy, still classy, and perfect for wearing around. I got the 'Fossil' and 'Trail' both in 30x34 and love the way they fit. The length is perfect, and the cut tappers slightly towards the cuff, making them better fitting than a straight leg pant.

These pants can be rocked by anyone. Not just old fogies. I'm 16 and these things are my new favorites.

Great for the woods, Great for work...

These pants have become my standard issue - I tried some a couple of years ago when visiting the Southwest - perfect for climates where the temperature swings in between - cool mornings or evenings, and warm days, but you want long pants for walking through the rocks and brush.

I also use these for business casual (replacing dockers or khakis) with a decent shirt.

Great pockets - roomy front pockets, zipper front pockets keeps something small in the pocket, and I particularly like the side pockets for cellphone or some kind of tool. Good colors also.

I thought the fit and finish were solid - the snaps much better than I would expect - although one pair of my new ones had a bad seam in the crotch, and were replaced.

I agree with the "slightly short" comments made above - changed my normal 32 length to a 34 which is a little long - saw the post about Columbia making odd sizes - ie 33's.

Is that correct and available for the Lander pants?

I also agree that they wear fairly quickly - for me, it is the hem lines at my feet, and knee splits - after a year, I had frayed hems, during the second year, my knees split out.

However, they are so comfortable, cool, lightweight, practical and decent looking, they are an overall good value, especially if you can buy on sale or closeout, at around $30 or so.

I just bought 6 of them - 2 each of 3 colors - and I marked one of each for "work" and "play" so I keep some nice looking for work use.

I will continue to buy these.

Super Travel Pants

I bought two pairs. Wanted a pant that I could wear to work in the heat of the Middle East and also use for traveling around Europe. These pants are great. Normally I like to buy stuff made out of quick drying materials but with these pants I don't care. They are 100% cotton but not real dense, should still dry in a day if I have to wash in a hotel shower (unless it's really humid). I will buy this pant again.

Great Pants

I have several pair of these pants and I love them. But I do find the length runs a little short. Especially noticeable after drying.

Great pants

Fit is perfect, they are very comfortable, and I love the pockets - especially the small zip side pocket (perfect for iPod or cellphone). The snap closure is much higher quality than most others out there. I'm probably going to get a second pair of these.
