Solid jacketG

I'm a 6ft and 185 lbs. I purchased a large and It just fits me perfectly. Their is none to little room to wear another jacket underneath for colder weather. Manly because the arm pits are stitched high. Would prefer ventilation zippers under arm, but doesn't appear to have ventilation problems. Solid jacket. Jacket color is more of a Kelly green.

Hail jacket

Hey all, went with the medium, thanks for all the help. Medium, is perfect for southern weather, non-heavy layering. Works great!

What size? 5'10" 190lbs male. Not fat

Responded on

I'm 6'1" 180 lbs and I wear a large in shells so I can layer. You'll do fine with the large.

Responded on

Go for a Large. I'm 6'0", 210 lbs and I have two Columbia shells. Large gives a good, slightly snug fit over layers, while XL is just too big.

My son weighs 210 and is 6'. He has a 44" chest and a 32" waist. What size would be best L or XL

Responded on

XL if he will wear it in the colder months over a sweater or heavier fabric. The active fit skinnies it down.

Haven't used it in the rain yet...

But the fit is solid and there's enough room underneath to layer. I originally ordered the gravel color thinking it would be more of a grey but it's more of a army green color. I settled on the Eboney Blue and it's as pictured. I ordered the North Face Cordellette along with this jacket as I couldn't decide on a color and the NF jacket was just a tad shorter in the length and had a thicker collar. The Columbia seems to be a solid jacket for the money. I'll update once used in the rain.

Is this Jacket part of Columbia's "Interchange" jackets? I have an existing interchange liner and would want to us this as a shell on occassion

Responded on

this does not have a zip in compatibility for a fleece. This was built lean and light, without a double zipper. It is cut generously to accommodate layering however.

So the waterproofnes between 20k (omni-tech) and 28k (goretex paclite) is unnoticeable to the user? The reason I ask is b/c I had a golite jacket w/ 10k waterproofness and it didn't block rain from afternoon t-storms at 10500' well.

Will the hail tech provide better rain protection than the marmot minimalist w/ goretex?

Responded on

Both jackets are fully waterproof breathable and will remain dry under the same conditions.

how small does this pack down to? It's between this and Sierra Designs Hurricane. The SD hurricane is lighter, and packs down very small, but I have a feeling that the Hail Tech will provide me with a little more waterproofing. My pack is tiny, so size is always a consideration.

Responded on

A large will scrunch down to the size of 6 golfballs. it is amazing for waterproof breathability and still a fixture in my lineup... after many advancements. I highly recommend it

Responded on

Just got the jacket it seems very nice. Not nearly as pack able as I hoped it would be though :(

does this jacket have pit zippers?

Responded on

It does not, instead it has "Gill-inspired venting allows air to freely move through flaps along the core without unzipping anything to let the drizzle in"

Responded on

Honestly, I have never felt a need to reach for them in this jkt.

I am 5'8 165lbs and usually wear a size medium. I would like to wear the TNF denali fleece underneath to layer. Would a size large or medium fit me best? Also, how does this compare to the Columbia tight rain jacket? (which is better overall?)

Whenever it rains...

I use this every time I see the sky darken, which in DC, is quite frequently.

This is the best rain jacket I have EVER had. The waterproofing is fantastic and I dont get that feeling of being wrapped in saran wrap that you get with a lot of wet gear. The breathability is great and you dont get the sauna effect, even when you are in a warm day downpour.

I pair these with Sierra Designs Hurricane pants, SD gaiters and my Mammut backpacking boots and I can hike endlessly in the rain without the worry of getting even slightly wet.

Don't be a fair weather outdoorsman, get some good wet gear and own all weather conditions.
