Very Versatile

This fleece has a conforming cut with ample arm length. The arm length keeps the sleeve from pulling up during activities. The ONLY thing this fleece is missing is armpit zipper vents. The map pocket is small, so I use it for my cell phone and chapstick. I would purchase again if presented with the opportunity.

I'm interested in buying this to wear under a Columbia Hot

I'm interested in buying this to wear under a Columbia Hot Shot II shell. Would it be a good fit? Should I order them different sizes so they fit nicely inside one another? Does this fleece support the 3-point interchange system that the shell has?

Actually it does have interchange-compatible tabs, at least on the blue one that i got...

This is a tough one. It will be a great fit under that shell. the fleece runs a little closer to the body and will stay out of the way of your shell. This will not have the tabs to anchor it on the neckline and cuffs, nor will it zip in.

Pretty warm for layering... but that's about it.

Ok, I've owned quite a bit of Columbia gear in my time, and I was somewhat disappointed in this one, but for the price it was a decent deal. I like the style of the jacket, the warmth, and the fact that it is interchange-compatible is nice, but it pretty much stops there. The attention to detail was lacking. Stitching was mediocre, and durability remains to be seen. What mainly ticked me off was the absense of YKK zippers. What is the world coming to? Also the zipper pulls were all tied wrong and I had to retie them. The cinch pulls were a little weird, but fairly functional. Call me picky, but to me the details are what set apart the quality items from the crap. Not that this is crap, it's just nothing special. Overall, it's pretty warm for it's weight and was pretty inexpensive, so it's not a bad buy if you're on a budget and don't care if the zippers wear out after a while. If you care, you're probably better off with something else.

I am really frustrated by trying to figure out how thick fleece

I am really frustrated by trying to figure out how thick fleece is online - and judging by comments on this and other sites, so are a lot of folks. Isn't there some way to indicate in standard terms if a fleece is 100 or 200 or 300 weight? What the heck does 270g mean???

the lines of fleece pile measurement got blurred pretty badly. this would pice would fall in the upper 200s by the classic measurements. This one also is a bit more fitted in the arm, making layering not so bulky and easy to move. I hope this helps a bit. this would be similar to a classic synchilla, if you are familiar with that.

Lightweight, comfortable, and warm

By:

Great for windy Spring days that drop into the 40's at night. I've owned several fleece underliners from Columbia in the past, but this simple, straight-forward jacket is by far my favorite. I ordered a Men's Medium, which is what I normally wear in T-shirts, and was still able to comfortably fit 2 thin layers underneath. The "map pocket" is really only large enough to fit an ID, credit card, and maybe a few small pieces of paper; so don't expect to actually keep a map in there.

It seems to be about 250. Certainly heavier than 100.

No green zipper on charcoal

Great fleece- just know the grey (charcoal) fleece doesn't have the green zipper anymore. The picture is an outdated photo. The zipper is black.

Not quite what I expected

By:
March 18, 2010

I have several Columbia products and was a bit disappointed in these. They were a size smaller than the other Columbia products I currently own and the fabric was much thinner. Perhaps there could be some way to list the fabric thickness in millimeters or something so it is easier to judge weight of material before purchase? However the purchase and return was easy and I may shop here again.

I agree...This jacket runs smaller than the other Columbia jackets. I bought I few of the guys in the family XL for gifts, but will have to return because they will be to small in this specific jacket. It's a softer fleece however, where the Steen jacket is more of a "short sheep" feeling fleece. The Steen jacket is a little looser/stretcher than the Fast Trek. Love both jackets, but just have to order a size larger in the Fast Trek Fleece.
