Dragonfly Shoe - Women's

The Columbia Women’s Dragonfly Shoe doesn’t mind when the trail gets wet. The breathable mesh and synthetic upper lets hot air escape and dries quickly after a river-dunk, and rubber heel and forefoot overlays add durability when you bump up against rocks. The Dragonfly might look light (and it is lightweight), but it uses a nylon shank for bottom –of-foot protection and a Techlite midsole for plenty of cushioning. Agion anti-odor treatment on the footbed helps prevent funk.

Bottom Line: Welcomes the wet.

I am looking for a shoe for a 6 day canyon/backpack trip. Would this shoe have the support for carrying 40 pounds? If not, any other ideas?

If you are going to hike the canyon, you will need a boot that has ankle support. The trails are very steep, and alot of weight is facing forward on the way down. The trails are also very rocky in places. These might be nice for the shower, or around camp, but invest in a good, lightweight pair of backpack shoes for your hiking. I swear by my Asolo shoes.

These might actually work for fly fishing, depending upon how you use them. They would probably work best if you spend most of your time fishing from shore, only occasionally wading into the water. The sole looks fairly grippy, but all bets are off on slippery river rocks. One concern would be that if you are going to be spending a lot of time in the water, gravel will tend to accumulate in the shoes (and there don't appear to be good drains to help prevent this), then you would need to untie them and take them off to get the gravel out.

One problem in finding good shoes for flyfishing (including the ones made specifically for this purpose) is that the ones that seem to work best in the water look like, well, water shoes (which limits their use when not fishing). The best shoe that I have found (based upon comfort and traction) is the North Face Padda http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/The-North-Face-Padda-Amphibious-Shoe-Womens/TNF2843M.html

I own 2 pair in 12's and think they run a bit large. I used these as camp shoes when backpacking the Grand Canyon for 5 days . They were great in the Colorado & creeks. In the river the toes filled up with silt a little bit.

Shirley,Prior to your post and looking into it, I did not know anything about aqua fitness. I noticed most people don't wear shoes when doing activities in the pool. At the same time I found numerous sites selling shoes for aqua fitness activities. Does your class or instruct recommend wearing shoes in the pool? Most shoes you wear in the water are going to feel clunky and restrictive. Have you looked into water weights for your ankles to get a better workout? Anyways, these shoes will work great as a shoe you wear to the pool and in the shower room. If you wear these in the pool the chlorine will wear out the materials prematurely. Also, look at http://www.backcountry.com/store/group/170/Womens-Water-Shoes.html which has water specific shoes and sandals. Everything on the water shoe page will be a lot more open. Good luck with water aerobics! Now I know what water aerobics consist of.Mahalo, Sumo
