too small

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:Runs small
  • Size Bought: 8

I usually love Columbia shorts. I ordered my normal size in this bran and they were small in the waist and with a very short inseam. They felt more like swim boy shorts. Not good.

size ... ? really short inseam

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

I ordered one size up (I am usually a 6 but ordered an 8) based on the reviews. They were too big in the waist for me ... and way too short. The fabric is fine, but this isn't my idea of a hiking short. ... a 4-inch inseam.... these are short shorts! I tried them on and promptly sent them back.

not sized properly

I ordered these shorts in a size 4. I normally buy size 2 and occasionally size 4 so I was sure they would fit or be a little loose. I was totally wrong! I could not even close them. They run way too small! I hate that I ordered these and lost $7 to return them. I did not take a chance at ordering a size 6 as I wasn't even sure if that size would fit. Wish Backcountry would indicate these run way small so that you don't waste your money paying for returns! Very disappointed! The fabric was nice. I found some at Sports Authority - same style and fabric for about the same price and the size 4 is plenty loose. I got them there. Don't waste your time or money.

I've had the same issue Maria! I've had bad experiences with Columbia bottoms in the past, same thing, normally size 0/2 or 4 if I really want to kill my ego, I just swallow my pride and order size 6 in their stuff now. It would be AMAZING if they could make note of these huge size inconsistencies.

I bought these shorts a couple months ago and I absolutely love them. I live in the desert and these are so light weight and comfortable. I purchased the Tusk color in my normal size and they fit perfectly. They dry quickly and don't cause any chaffing when they are wet. I love the zipper cargo pocket, it's not very big, but perfect for keeping small items safe (ID card, rings, chapstick, money etc.). I love them so much that I'm buying another pair. :)

Shorts run small and vary by color

These shorts run small. I have other Columbia shorts in a size 4 which are a little big, so I ordered these in the size 4 and they are quite small. In fact, I ordered these shorts in 2 colors and they both fit differently. The sage was small but not horrible; I really needed them for an upcoming trip so I kept them even though I would prefer they be a little more roomy. The red ones didn't fit at all. Strange that the exact same shorts can be so different, and also that different styles of shorts from the same manufacturer are sized so differently. In my dream world, sizing for women's clothing is uniform across all brands. Hahaha, I will keep dreaming while I continually return clothing in my size that does not fit me :(

The shorts that I kept are comfortable and functional. I wore them during a long weekend of crazy weather - boiling hot one minute and pouring rain the next - and the lightweight, quick-dry material was great for that. 4" inseam was shorter than I wanted but, again, I didn't have time to exchange or shop for something different.
