Funny story...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Apparently I'm an idiot and bought this same one last year for my wife :) She indeed loves it and has worn the original one for a year and it has very little wear. Its comfy and perfect for all of the quick trips she takes. Keeps her warm and looks great!!

My Favorite Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This is my go-to jacket for all occasions. The quality and fit are always spot on. I add to my collection each year!

It is a $35 dollar fleece.

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift
  • Fit: True to size

Ok, think of the price then think of what you should get for $35 dollars.

Columbia sportswear is for your normal average person or someone that is on a budget.

My wife wanted another fleece for wearing around the house and I obliged her. Yeah, it is great piece for that.

It is a good deal for what you paid for. I would compare it to what you would expect if you went to a ski resort or resort town and they had branded fleece for sale. Nothing special and in time it isn't going to wear well.

You paid next to nothing so it shouldn't come as any surprise when it wears out.

If my wife wanted a piece for outdoor activities I would have gotten her a fleece that would have been 3 to 4 times more expensive. Because you get what you pay for.

For a growing child or for someone who thinks walking the dog is going out into the great outdoors.. Yeah, this is one you should look at.

As a gift for grandma or anyone who looks like they have no clue what to wear when they try and put on their play clothes... This would be a great gift to give them.

*EDIT* So it looks like I pissed off a few of the people I was talking about in my review.. Clueless people. I sold Columbia Sportswear at the shop I managed. We sold all the high end brands like Patagonia, The North Face, Marmot etc etc.. Columbia Sportswear is basic stuff. It was for people who didn't want to spend too much or they were buying gifts for others or for outdoor gear for their children or wife who doesn't do anything extreme. It is a decent deal but it isn't made to last. It isn't. You wear it during basic outdoor activities and you just buy another one when the piece wears out or your kid outgrows it. Call it a family brand.
Sorry some of you uptight people got your panties in a bunch. Would I buy a kid a Patagonia fleece or a TNF fleece? Sure, But most people buy Columbia and call it good. It is good but you get what you pay for.

These jackets are not supposed to be ski quality or mountain climbing gear. They are a nice, comfortable mid-weight fleece jacket. No need to be so negative.

I have had one of my Columbia fleeces for almost six years. It not as soft as the day I got it, but it is still my go to for the perfect warm layer. My only North Face fleece I ever bought took a crap after two years. The trim started falling off and then soon after the zipper went kaput.

I am not saying that the crap TNF puts out is great. It is what the young kids want. The best fleeces out there are Patagonia. You pay more but you get your moneys worth. I threw my wife's Patagonia fleece along with this one in the washer the other day. I was zipping up all the zippers and the quality difference is night and day. But again, It is a $35 dollar fleece. You can buy your kid this fleece but they are really wanting a TNF one so they can fit in with their friends. The funny thing is most would want a TNF fleece over a Patagonia. I won't buy TNF clothing for myself or my wife. I do buy a ton of MHW and which is basically the higher end of Columbia. Mountain Hardwear fleeces are really good too.

Nice Fleece. Great value.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I ordered the Quill color in large. It's a nice cozy fleece. Looks nice. Nice color. I am a size 14 and ordered a L. I would upsize if you are on the higher size end and want to layer bulkier items. I am in TX, so it's fine for me. On sale, it's a great value for the $ and a good fleece is a staple in my opinion.

A little pale.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I ordered one of these fleece jackets before and LOVED it. My college has freezing classrooms and keeping warm (and therefore more energized than that coma being very cold can put you in) is important for me. Unfortunately, that fleece got a bit roasted in a community dryer that gets far hotter than your normal household dryer. I will still use it, but it's not as comfortable with the rougher parts. When I saw this was on sale, I bought both a Geyser fleece (this item) and a rain jacket of the same color.

Both were depressingly lighter than the pictures made me expect, which I should have anticipated. They're still good, quality items, but I love turquoise and these are closer to a light cyan - at least they're not powder blue!

So the item is great, but the pictures are more bold than the reality.

True to size but colors deceptive

  • Fit: True to size

Just received my 2 jackets in Medium (my regular size). The body of the jackets fit well if wearing just a tee underneath, but snug if wearing a tee plus heavy sweater. Body is true to size, but had to roll up sleeves. Those who feel the jackets run large must be VERY slim or under 120 lbs (for size Medium), which are very enviable! :-) Black is a light black ; prefer a dark black, but can live with it. Red Hibiscus is VERY NEON & bright , which is very disappointing, but keeping it as return postage will be over 25% of price of jacket (on sale). Wish there was a store I can return it to or make an exchange. Difficult to judge true colors from website/photos.
REI no longer had the jackets in colors and size I wanted, hence ended up with Back Country. Would be nice if free returns were offered. Probably will not order again unless have seen and tried items in store(s).

Love this fleece!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I recently bought this fleece for our Alaskan cruise vacation. I could not be more happy with this coat. It was light weight to pack and carry but heavy enough fleece to keep the chill off in windy conditions. I layered it under my rain gear which worked great too. I love the fit, very flattering. I even spilled hot chocolate on it(I got the white one) and it repelled the spots and I was able to spot clean them with no staining. Since home I've also washed this jacket and it looks just like new. Highly recommend.

Love this fleece!

GREAT!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm 5'7" 120lbs and have long monkey arms. I have a lot of trouble finding shirts/jackets that have sleeves that go past my wrists. Thankfully this fleece fits me PERFECT in a size small. Its not too tight or loose, & the sleeves and torso are long.

Are the pockets zipped? Does the waist...

Are the pockets zipped? Does the waist have a cinch?

Best Answer Responded on

Yes, the pockets are zip-equipped, and yes, the waist does have an elastic adjustable cinch cord built in.
Hope this helps.

Good layer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

I bought this in black, in my normal size, medium. I agree that it runs large and is unfitted. It's fine for my purposes, but I probably could have gotten a small. But it's cozy for layering in this tough winter and not unattractive when worn on its own.

Too boxy

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

This fleece looks really cute and slightly fitted in the pictures, but it's not fitted at all and made me look really boxy. I am returning it.

Nice but big!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large

I'm 5'6" 130 lbs and an A cup. I wear S most of the times but this jacket was too big especially on the arms. I like it, it's nice and fairly warm but unless you want to use this with lots of layers underneath, I would advise to buy one size down.

Love it!

This fleece is great! The fit is perfect and the color just like the picture.

My mom was happy with this jacket

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift
  • Fit: True to size

I bought this jacket for my mom and she loved it. It fit well and was the first columbia jacket she has ever had

Disappointed in the color...

  • Fit: True to size

I have numerous Columbia fleeces that I have purchased from Backcountry and the last one was the only one I was not happy with...I wanted the med. cobalt looking blue fleece which is shown on the website and labeled dark compass and when I received it, it is actually a turquoisey color and I already have one in that color so will be returning it.

Nice jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large

Finally bought myself the jacket since my daughter and husband have had theirs for a few years. It is soft and fairly warm, great fall or early spring jacket. I typically buy medium size tops because I like a loose fit; however I read the size charts and ordered a small. The small is a good fit for me, still loose enough to wear thick sweaters underneath.

Super soft and warm!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift
  • Fit: True to size

Bought this as a gift for my mom and she loves it! She wanted a great everyday fall jacket that wouldn't be too light or heavy for those cool fall days. Her favorite aspect of the jacket is soft fleece and the color. She wears it everywhere!

Warm!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Bought one last year in charcoal and layered it under a down coat to get me through the winter. Nice & warm! Just bought another in pink from another retailer. Best part is that they're inexpensive enough that you can get multiple if you find them on sale. Love these & am living in them right now! 30s in the morning, 60s in the afternoon. Perfect thing to throw over a long sleeve tee in the morning.

Purchased these last year & great!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I was surprised to read the negative reviews since I purchased the mens and womens versions of Benton Springs last year from the Back County Website & there are no quality issues. I came back today to possibly purchase more jackets in different colors. I purchased other Benton Springs jackets from a local sporting goods store many years ago & these are the same jackets. The new Columbia fleece jackets at the store are a different design & thinner fleece. I gave a green jacket to my husband as a gift & purchased a black jacket for myself. Since my office is extremely cool from AC & love the jackets. There are no quality issues. I wash them in cold water on delicate & hang them on a hanger to dry. Hope this review helps skeptical people out there.
