Zip her up in the Columbia Girls' Benton Springs Fleece Jacket before she heads outdoors on a chilly day. Columbia’s lofty Maximum Thermal Retention fleece which traps her body heat so she stays toasty; it also dries quickly and doesn't pill. Tricot-lined hand-warmer pockets give her somewhere to pop her fingers so as to keep them warm on cool mornings at the bus stop.
Bottom Line: A cold-weather wardrobe staple for girls.
I got this jacket(from Backcountry.com, of course) for my daughter for Christmas 2009. 3 days later she wore it hiking... and has been wearing it- for everything- ever since. It has become her absolute favorite piece of clothing. Here it is May, and she still wears it whenever she can! She loves this jacket. The only time she wears something else is when this one is being washed. So far, it has held up perfectly- no complaints at all. The sizing seems to run true, a tad big maybe, but personally I think that's perfect- it's loose enough to wear something under it, but not too loose to wear by itself. And at Backcountry.com's price, you just can't go wrong buying this jacket!UPDATE: 12/13/10 My daughter now has 2 of these jackets, and she still absolutely loves them. They are without a doubt her favorite pieces of clothing. They have held up to countless washings, and constant use in almost every weather catagory. They still look almost new.
Are these jackets good for winter time in north georgia? my friend has a fleece columbia jacket and im pretty sure that this is the one that she has, but is it good to wear in the winter?
Hannah, as with anything else, that depends on a number of things- the temperature, how hot/cold natured you are, what kind of layers you wear, how active you are, etc. Generally, I would say that this jacket is fine- by itself- for COOL weather, but not COLD. If you wear layers underneath it, or you are being active while wearing it(i.e. hiking, backpacking, sports, etc.), then you could get away with wearing it by itself in just about any weather. But keep in mind that this jacket is NOT waterproof or windproof. My daughter has this jacket, and has been wearing it for just about every minute that she is outdoors ever since Christmas. She generally wears one, and sometimes two, shirts underneath the jacket and has never complained about being cold(we live in Middle TN). I hope this helps :-)

My 9 yr-old daughter, 3 days after Christmas 2009, wearing her Columbia fleece jacket and Vasque Breeze hiking boots - both of which she received for Christmas, and both came from Backcountry.com!
Living in Australia, we don't need anything too warm, even in winter, so I thought that investing in a few of these for my kids would be a good idea... and how right I was! What terrific fleece jackets!
Even with very different body types (two tall and slim, and one more of a stocky build) they are a great, true-to-size fit (just compare your measurements to the size chart), soft and comfortable to wear, easy to wash and care for and they look great! My youngest daughter has worn hers for three days in a row and I think I'm going to have a fight to get it to the laundry!
Extremely fast shippment and delivery. Great Price. Jacket is a beautiful color, soft, cozy...we get one every year! Backcountry offered colors that I didn't see on other websites.
is the punk, isla a burgundy color or is the vino a burgundy color it is hard to tell on the computer. I would appreciate any help with this my daughter has to wear a maroon or burgundy jacket with her school uniform and I would like to know before I order. Thanks.
This style of Columbia fleece is my favorite! I have it in 3 colors, so far! I definitely plan to buy a few more of them! & the service I received purchasing it from backcountry was outstanding! I definitely recommend buying this fleece! It's light weight, yet warm for cooler fall/spring days & perfect for adding another layer during winter but still being comfortable!
At $20 a pop, you can't go wrong with this jacket. The size 7/8 fits my average size 7 year old with room to grow. The 14/16 is a bit big on my very tall (58") 10 year old daughter but not "sloppy". The fleece weight seems a bit thicker than in the past and is softer, both of which are a bonus! Will continue to purchase this jacket until my girls are too big to wear 'em.
I bought 2 of these jackets for my girls winter 2009. Immediately became the favorite light jackets. They wore them instead of sweaters for the whole winter and spring. Our mid Atlantic climate is sweater weather for many months.
Purchased these fleece jackets again for my ever growing daughters......very functional as their mid layer....both daughters commented how soft these are compared to the ones they had gotten before from BC.....got them for 14.99 each 2 years ago and again now in 2010.......cannot beat that price for such an important part of the layering process.......they are both 14/16 sized....and the size of these Columbia fleeces is again true to fit......see "Pleased" in my earlier 2009 review for further comments.
Bought 2 of these fleece jackets for my 2 daughters to wear as their middle layer. The fit is definitely true to size and they both say the jacket is very comfortable. This will be their second season wearing them.....so I am confident they will be warm and comfortable again this ski season. They like the colors too. The recipe of a good Patagonia baselayer, a nice comfortable fleece, and a water resistant outer shell always provides a "its not so cold out" day for my 2 "only go in for lunch" daughters.
I love this one! It's great for fall/spring. The girls xl fits me just fine without the added expense! Check out the size charts to save yourself a little cash!
Received girl's sweet pea 6-6x true to size but much lighter in color than on computer. I have two of the these jackets already and am impressed enough to buy more this year. They wash up well- I only line dry. I am waiting for the punk isla color after a mix up. Girl's larger sizing fits small adults.
I bought one of these for my 7 yr old at the same time I bought me one, and this entire winter she has worn it about everywhere. It would be real tough to find anything better (or anything as good) for the same price. I got her the Lollipop color and let me tell you it is pink, however she loves it and that is all that matters. I am going to buy another one just so she can have a another one.
How do these run as far as sizing? Would you say they are true to size, or do they run small? (My daughter wears at least an 8 in regular clothes, but I know the 10/12 would be way too big!)
My daughter just turned 10, and is short/petite for her age. She normally wears around a size 8(depending on the brand). I got her this jacket for Christmas in the "7/8" size, and it fits perfectly. It is snug enough to wear by itself, but loose enough to wear layers underneath. I hope this helps :-)
I Bought this for my daughter to wear under her snowboard jacket. She loves it. likes to also wear it on the days that are not as cold under her Burton vest. Actually bought another one she liked it so much.
My daughter loves this fleece. It's very soft and comfortable. Bought it for a mid-layer for ski season - great when below zero (she wears North Face Hyvent shell, and Patagonia thermals). Now that we are back in GA she wears it alone for everyday jacket in winter. Very cute. Washes well & lint doesn't seem to hang on which is nice.
Love it...In fact I have 5 of them - Isla, Black, vino, Pink & Pink Camo. Soft and warm! I wear a women's small usually, but the girls 18/20 fits perfectly and doesn't cost as much! :)
I like this fleece jacket but the light blue color that is shown is not the correct color. The stratosphere color is very bright blue, nothing like the sample color shown. You may like the color but beware. Backcountry was very nice and said they would exchange the jacket. Of course I would have to pay shipping. I would have exchanged the jacket except Backcountry.com has limited sizes and colors they have nothing left in my size. Speaking of sizes, I am an adult women, about 108 pds. and 5' 6", I measured a child's Large, except I worried about the sleeve length so I got the XLarge. Don't worry these jackets are big, the XLarge was so big it had to be taken up and the sleeves are plenty long. This jacket is warm and I really like it except for the odd color.
I bought my daughter this jacket for Christmas and could hardely get it off her to wash it. It is her favorite jacket by far. She loves it so much that i bought two more a size bigger for next year. There's no need to buy any other.
I love this jacket! It is very warm and trendy. I love the color. I have received so many compliments on it. I am 35 and am able to wear a girls XL and it fits perfect.
I puchased this fleece for my 10 yr old daughter. She absolutely loves it. It's not super heavy and just warm enough when there's a chill in the air. It allows her to run and play outside without bulking her up or making her too warm.
Bought 2 of these for my daughter. One because she couldnt make up her mind on a color (lots of choices) and two the price was to good to pass up. Nice jacket for layering. She wears it all year round. As always, happy with another Columbia product!
I just bought this jacket for my daughter. We both love this jacket. It is warm and soft and comfortable. Great for layering. This was a great buy! We are more than satisfied!
I purchased this jacket for my daughter's first camping trip to WI during early April when the weather was only about 40 degrees. She said that it kept her very warm and she's still wearing it now. We bought it a size bigger so that it would last longer. We've washed it and I have to say that it washes very well.
I purchased this jacket for my daughter. She loves it. I ordered the doll color, and didn't realized it till now that I received the isla color. I was wondering why it was so light. That is very upsetting since now I am sure they will do nothing about it. Over all I like the product, but unsure about ordering from here again
I purchased this jacket for myself (I'm about 5' and weight about 100 lbs.). My pick was size Large and the color "Begonia". It's a beautiful color and light weight. This jacket is perfect for California winter. I wear it over T-shirt and fit great. If you a petite person, this is the way to go! I also appreciated the "live chat" which gave me a right choice:) Shipping was super fast! With the great price, I would consider getting another one:)
I got this jacket(from Backcountry.com, of course) for my daughter for Christmas 2009. 3 days later she wore it hiking... and has been wearing it- for more...
