When it's 10 degrees Fahrenheit, snowing an inch per hour, and blowing hard, zip up the Columbia Men's Ballistic Insulated Jacket and nab the first chair. Columbia insulated this jacket with 100g synthetic insulation for warmth on the coldest ski days. While you race to your favorite stash, the Ballistic jacket's waterproof breathable laminate lets moisture inside the jacket escape, so you don't get soaked in sweat. The laminate also blocks rain and snow to keep you warm and dry, powder turn after powder turn. On your next ride up, flip up the Ballistic Jacket's removable, three-way adjustable hood to protect your face from gusts.

Bottom Line: The Columbia Ballistic Jacket—weather protection for those unforgiving but unforgettable powder days.

That's an impossible question, with enough layers you could insulate for as cold as you want. But with a long-sleeve t-shirt and maybe a mid-layer fleece, you could wear this all the way down to zero at least.

Great jacket 4/5 Stars

First of all. I have The Dark Navy and Black,L size. it's 2007 model, so it doesn'´t have powder skirt, that's a shame, the 2008 model does. I am 1.85 m. Tall and my weigth is 85 kg aprox. Size: The Jacket is long, it's a Parka, below my waist, and for a reference the two hand pockets of it are at the same place as my jean's pockets. It fits great not too baggy, not too tight. Now it's spring in argentina (where i live) so i didn't use it with a lot of clothes underneath it. Only With a T shirt. I think when it gets colder with a fleece jacket, the fit would be the right one. If you use it only with the t shirt i think for me a size M would be great. but that's not the purpose of a winterjacket. It's Active Fit, so if you have a big belly consider that. Insulation: It's very warm, i think that with a baselayer of fleece or a softshell, you are done. Waterproof: I worn it on the rain, and the waterproof rating it's excellent, you won't get wet. the raindrops slide right off it. I got home and shoke it and it's dry again. Pockets: it has 2 hand pockets with no zip covered inside with a soft material, 2 chest pockets, one with zip also with soft material inside. one arm pocket. On the inside you have one big pocket with no zip, one with zip for wallet or cell phone and on the left side you have the media pocket with a button. Also has a cord for the earphnoes. Coreventing: very long double Pitzips on each arm. ;) Hood: Great hood, zip off, and velcro. Adjustable on the neck and around your head. Weight: It's mediumweigth. Others: Waist and end of jacket adjustable drawcords. Ballistic material on arms and shoulders it'´s great for prevent the rubbing on these sensitive areas, especially from backpacks. Velcro Handcuffs, the cut of them it's not straigth, really comfortable. Bottom Line: Cons: I missed the powder skirt,so i think for skiing it's not the best jacket. And the waistdrawcord doesn't adjust too much, you get the feeling that if you adjust too much it's gonna break. Pros: The size and lenght. (You get the feeling of being all covered with this jacket, especially on really cold days) The materials: Really waterproof. The Hood. the pockets. the coreventing. the ballistic material I am very pleased with this jacket, i recommend it.

Of course, just keep in mind it's going to feel a little big because the fleece is not there to take up space.---------------------Actually, this isn't a 2-piece jacket. So you can't take the lining out.

To Short

The jacket would have been alright it just was'nt long enough. If you would ever get a jacket that would be extra long, I'd try BackCountry again. I'm 6feet10 in. tall so I need a Taller size.

The kettle and dark navy colors of the Columbia Ballistic Insulated Jacket are 2007 models (hence their discounted price). The black is the 2008.
