Good deal for the price

I bought this jacket on sale because my old rain jacket was not protecting me from rain anymore. Generally Columbia is not my favorite brand but for the price this is a great deal. The bright orangey red color is fun and wakes me up on rainy days. Decent waterproofing, definitely need to layer for warmth as there is no insulation whatsoever.

Has anyone used this for running? I'm wondering if it will be breathable enough since there's no zip vents.
Also, I'm 5'5" and 120 lbs. Would a Small be sufficient if I want to layer a fleece or hoodie?

You should definitely be able to fit a fleece underneath. I have the small, and while I am only 5'3" and 105 lbs, I can fit a pretty thick jacket underneath with no problem, so you should definitely be able to fit a fleece. As far as breathability goes, it should be good on cooler days. On warm days the jacket is a bit too hot to run in, but its a lot more waterproof than a regular "water resistant" running jacket.
good jacket

I'm 5'2", 130 lbs and the small fit perfectly everywhere except my hips, where it was snug with a t-shirt on. I went with a medium just in case I wanted to layer, and it still looks fine.

Does this jacket pack into itself? I would appreciate any feedback. I have not seen any mention of this but I have the mens equivelant of this jacket and it packs into itself which is nice. My wife wants this jackets but only if it has this feature. Thank you

I first saw this jacket at another store retailing at more than twice the price. Luckily I found it on backcountry.com & couldn't be happier. They sent my order as soon as it processed & arrived in 2 days. The jacket itself is stylish, breathable, lightweight, and dries quickly.
Great Jacket

I bought this jacket to wear while running or hiking on rainy days. It keeps me dry, and it is very comfortable. I put it to the test wearing it for a rainy Chicago Bear's night game, and it held up pretty well, considering I was sitting in the rain for 3.5 hours.

I like this jacket a lot. I have room for layers if I need them and I stay dry in the rain. I'm 5'5"/110 lbs and got the XS. It fits perfect although extremely close to being short in the sleeve length so if you're taller than I am (or just have long arms) you might want to try it on first.
I have one complaint--the hood. I find myself having to hold it on if there is even a little breeze and wearing my hair up (bun or ponytail) makes it difficult to keep on. It can be a pain.
Good jacket overall though!
Is this a quiet or a "crunchy" fabric?

Is this a quiet or a "crunchy" fabric?

I would consider it a swishy fabric. It's a rain jacket so it definitely isn't quiet, but the swishing sound of the fabric rubbing on itself or other things isn't too bad. I don't know how you'd feel about it, but it doesn't bother me at all.

that answer is awesome. "swishy!"
this is a polyester and it does SWISH. Nylon is usually the crunchy, crispy shell

The jacket is good. It is literally a shell for your body. If you like tight fitting clothing this is a good jacket for you. However if you?re the kind that likes to hide in your coat or jacket it?s not the best. I do find myself holding the hood up as I walk when it?s windy otherwise the hood won?t stay on. I am able to fit a light hoodie or sweatshirt under the jacket. It is easy to move in, not stiff- which I love. Over all it?s a good buy. You just need to get past ?breaking it in? to enjoy the jacket.

I'd love to send this to my 18yr, old niece in college, but I'm hesitant about the fit. She's 5'6 and generally wears S/M or 6/8. Does this jacket run small, roomy or true?

Hi Dee,
Thanks for the question. When it comes to fitting the Columbia Arcadia Rain Jacket - Women's, it is a Women's fit, but a more casual Women's fit so it'll run true to a bit roomy depending on how many layers go underneath. Also, that type of fit is how Columbia as a company tends to run.
Nice jacket

I just had the chance to try this one out last week and it worked just perfect for me. I like that it has room to wear a fleece underneath if I need to in a cooler weather. I also love the adjustable velcro in the wrists and how it fits just fine. Great buy!
Love it!

I was looking for a good fall jacket that would also keep me dry. I am only 5 feet and 106 pounds so womens smalls tend to be a little big on me so I was excited to see that this jacket comes in xsmall! I wanted something simple in black and you really cant beat the price of this jacket. I just got it in the mail and I was so happy when I tried it on because it fits perfectly! I especially love having the hem draw cord because I like my jackets fitted to me. I have never bought something online that I have been this happy with. Awesome buy!
Love it so far

I ordered this rain jacket because my LL Bean rain jacket lost its waterproof capabilities after only 1 1/2 years. I need a waterproof jacket that will work at the barn, as well as to school and outdoor events. I had 2 opportunities to test it and it worked perfectly. Added bonus is that it breathes, so I can use it in warm weather. So far so good - especially for the price!
glad i bought this jacket!!

I bought this jacket for my trip to Hawaii and I'm so glad I made the purchase. It kept me dry on boat trips and hikes in the rainforest. Better price than at sports authority. Definitely would recommend the jacket.
Loveeee it

Is the hood big enough to fit over a bike helmet like a lot of the ski jackets nowadays?
Jeff Kendall
Member since
That depemds largely upon the bulous degree of the helmet. To be less evasive, it is oversized to offer mobility and functionality with most helmets

Would this jacket work for skiing?
Mark Parrett
Member since
Hey Irene - it could work with an insulating layer underneath but it is a much thinner shell than a dedicated ski shell so you probably would be better off choosing a jacket intended for skiing. A rain shell will flap around a lot in the wind and could rip with repeated use as a ski shell. If you're headed out for your first day on the hill and don't want a ski jacket, I'm sure this could get you by with a fleece or down layer underneath, but if you ski regularly at all this isn't the best choice.
Joan how the heck do you roll up the hood?...

Joan how the heck do you roll up the hood? the velcro strips don't seem to make sense.
Jeff Kendall

roll the hood inwards and the velcro on the back of the hood loops through the... errr.. loop on the neckline.

Is this Rain Jacket warm?

This jacket is made to keep people dry, so there is not much insulation, if any. The good news is that you can always layer underneath to account for conditions. I have found that with the right layers most any shell will be warm enough.
