This one takes me back to childhood.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I own one.

I just keep it for emergencies. You know.. That emergency that never seems to happen. So this thing sits in the garage and collects dust.

Every year I do crank it up and reminisce of when I was a kid. This was the lantern every campsite had burning in the evening.

I remember most people were sitting around their picnic benches and playing cards. I also remember the giant fireball blasting out of ours when my dad couldn't get it lit, then the flames that were shooting out and all over our picnic table. Yep, good times indeed.

So will it ever be used in a non emergency? I don't know. It is just nostalgic for me. The hissing sound the flame makes would piss off any nearby camping neighbors nowadays and the bulk is just too heavy for anything but car camping. With the new LED lanterns out there that put out great lumens and can run for days on small batteries this thing is kind of a Dinosaur.
