If Coleman launched the Northstar X8 Tent into space in the direction of Polaris, this tent is large enough that you might be able to navigate by it. But we recommend setting this Colemant tent up at your campsite instead, for you and your seven family members or friends. This three-season tent features two rooms, one of which turns into a 10-foot by 7.5-foot screened porch when you roll back the fly. On sunny days, lounge under the full-length awning, and on clear nights, stargaze through the two skylight panels. Two vestibules on the Northstar X8 let you get into the tent without letting in rain and give you some dry storage space. This tent's water-resistant floor holds up to 16 walking feet, gear, and camp chair legs. Power cord ports let you light up your lantern without leaving a door open.

Bottom Line: This palatial tent won't help you find north, but it will shelter you and seven others.

Which of the doors and windows can be zipped shut so that there is a closed panel rather than just mesh? Can the screened porch be zipped closed or do you have to rely on the fly for cover?

Also how heavey duty are the zippers.

It depends on what you mean by "worth it". Coleman tents are huge and luxurious, but this one weighs almost 40 pounds and will not stand up to any kind of snow, heavy rain, wind, or other adverse weather. Think about what you need it for and decide based on that. If you're going to be doing any real 3-season camping, you'll probably have to downsize to a 4 or 6-man or fork out some serious cash (North Face Dome 8-man: $2500)

The screened half depends upon the rain fly for cover. This has proven water proof even in (several) horrific Kansas thunderstorms. The tent in general is very steadfast and secure (if you have it properly tethered.) Best tent Coleman ever made. And better than most others I've seen.
