The Coal Nels Beanie gives you that vintage pom-pom look with a 5-way buttoning feature that expands your options ad infinitum. The hem fastens upward for a shorter, head-hugger style beanie, buttons down to cover your face like an Eskimo ninja mask, or slides all the way down to draft-proof your neck. You can even use the neck sleeve alone as a headband to rep your arctic gang colors. Choice is noice.

All your fantasies of being a combination ninja/snowbunny can come true with this hat! :-D It's very soft and warm. When separated into two separate pieces, I don't really like the neck portion because it's sort of awkwardly foldy under the chin--but I love the hat, and the balaclava type option.
Is it 100% cotton? or is it another fabric? I am looking for

Sorry, it's made with wool. The North Face Elevation Pom Pom Beanie is all cotton though.

So if you didn't know, this is not just a beanie. It's also a headband, balaclava, and neck scarf. The headband buttons at four points around the beanie. together, this is a very warm wool beanie that keeps your ears toasty. You can take off the headband if it's too warm and it still looks stylish. the balaclava is more comfortable to wear than i though it would be. the wool is so soft and it doesn't itch in the least. My friends are jealous and ask to borrow my nels beanie all the time. I love it so much I bought two!
