Hop on the lift or head up the skin track with the Cloudveil Men’s Shadow Peak Jacket as your foul-weather insurance policy. This tough three-layer shell breathes on the hike up and seals out even the most oppressive storms thanks to its Gore-Tex waterproof breathable membrane. A removable hood and underarm zip vents help you tailor to current conditions, and the stretch powder skirt keeps cold smoke from blowing up the jacket.

Bottom Line: A durable Gore-Tex shell for all-around schralping.

Just curious what the difference is between the Cloudveil RPK

Just curious what the difference is between the Cloudveil RPK jacket and the Cloudveil Shadow Peak jacket. Has anyone looked into these two jackets?

Great but not perfect

I did a ton of research as well and settled on this jacket. Basically it was biggest bang for the price...and it's Clouveil. It's got great features (powder skirt, pockets and pocket locations, removable hood, waterproof zips) and it's rugged. A friend of mine got the Koven Plus and after checking it out, I'm SOOO much happier with my decision. Koven Plus doesn't seem as rugged and it just seems like it was made for looks not performance. The ONLY problem with the Shadow Peak is the size of the hood. It does not fit well over a helmet (I have a Giro 10). You would think in today's day in age that Clouveil would have figured that one out. Otherwise, awesome jacket and I really wouldn't change a thing. I'm 6'4", 195 lbs. and the large fits great and I've done some heavy layering under it.

Yes these pockets will fall at the waist. There will definitely be some kind of non-abrasive fabric to protect the chin.

Love this jacket! Perfect jacket for all types of days. Great for warm spring like conditions when you can open up the pit zips to chilly days when the snow gods are puking all over the mountains. The Gore-Tex fabric is awesome! Blocks out fierce high winds along with heavy moisture keeping you dry and warm on the inside. While I don't wear mine on extreme cold days (I use my Down Patrol), It would be able to handle it with enough layers. Do yourself a favor and snag this BAMF (Bad-A**-Mother-F*****)! I love it!

I was wondering whether a medium would be good for me. I am 6"0 and about 170 pounds. I don't want something too bulky but also want to be able to layer with a fleece and base layer underneath.

Also, how does the quality of Cloudveil compare with Arcteryx and Mountain Hardware?

sick jacket

after a lot of research i bought this jacket. i just couldn't really see the added cost of getting the RPK or Koven. so far i have used it now on about half a dozen ski days, including one puking wet snow storm. the jacket withstood everything mother nature threw at it. i couldn't be happier with it. great weight, length and overall fit, really well made and nicely designed (all Cloudveil gear is IMO). i only wish it had a outside ski pass holder, unzipping after every run sucks, other then that i highly recommend this jacket.

It is. You can adjust the hood so it works with or without a helmet, and is storm sealing. It's also removable.
