For those glorious bluebird days where a hardshell jacket is overkill, the Cloudveil Men’s Rayzar Gore Windstopper Jacket blocks out the wind and light moisture, whether you’re shredding resort laps or heading out for a tour. The Gore WindStopper membrane on this tough softshell blocks 100% of icy gusts, and tons of pocket storage holds everything from your MP3 player to your skins. The attached drop hood provides refuge from impromptu storms, and the lined collar eliminates chafing.
I just purchased this jacket as my fall/early winter one-jacket-does-it-all piece and think it will do the trick. great fit, nice price, and love the fleecy interior. plus with windstopper it will be great on a windy day skinning the pass, or a cold day snowshoeing. thanks for another great jacket Cloudveil
Very solid jacket. Reservoir color is NOT as pictured. Even Cloudveil admits this from their own site. The color is a dark navy. Sent it back. Way off.

This is guaranteed windproof. The serendipity is very very wind resistant, but has a wool/poly blended fabric so it will be warmer. Both jackets are very water resistant as well; you could run water over them for hours and it wouldn't go through. No removable hood, but the rayzar's hood is two way adjustable.
Other the the Gore windstopper matieral, anyone know how this truly differs from the first turns jacket. Both seem to be soft shells, with some insulation. Was also curious if the hood helmet compatible?
k buzz, the biggest difference is the Gore Windstopper face fabric. it is a bit heavier, and obviously more windproof and waterproof than the fabric on the first turn which is a true stretch woven, no membrane/laminate. and the hood is helmet compatible. hope this helps
Will the cloudveil rayzar windstopper softshell be good for any day at alta? Including the "damn it's soaking up here, I should have just studied for that test" days?
It has a Gore laminate that should keep you dry from outside moisture, even on wet days. That being said, it is still a softshell. I use softshells, including this one, about 95% of the time I am outside. I carry a lightweight hardshell in my pack when climbing. For riding/skiing I use a hardshell when it is going to be solidly precipitating above freezing.
