Two bikes? Get this for your Chariot

By:
October 2, 2011

I got sick of moving the one that comes with the Chariot from my bike to wife's bike and back all the time. Now we can hitch up any time.

It was pretty embarrassing moving the original one to her bike and then a few days later going on a ride together, but feeling too lazy to move it back to mine. "Hey, look at that jerk. He makes his wife pull the Chariot (with two kids!) behind her bike." No more!

I didn't really have a need for the skewer so it would be nice if Chariot gave you the option to buy just the hitch without the skewer to save some money. The system works great though.

Solid hitch

By:
June 27, 2010

My last bike was stolen with the hitch so I needed to find a replacement. As far as price goes this was comparable or better than other sites. It was more cost effective to buy 2 than 1 as far as the shipping goes but they still shipped seperately. Not sure how that worked out. My wife and I now have one on each of our bikes and we use our chariot several times a week for the past three years. Solid system that I would recommend. As far as the little hitch goes, not much to say about it other than it does what it should and has never broken.

price gouging at it's finest

This little metal bracket is like so many items you can find in a hardware store for $3-$5. Thanks to yuppies towing their brats around on $1800 bikes towing $500 trailers you can have it for the low low bend over price of $30. No thanks. I got my trailer used in perfect condition for little more than they are asking for the hitch that they manufactured for 35 cents.

Joe, This isn't a cheapo part at your local hardware store—it's the mounting piece that attaches a child carrier to a bike. Even at a modest speed a failure here could be catastrophic. And with that in mind there's probably more liability here than in say the cheapo part at your local hardware store. And frankly it there should be more liability. Additionally their manufacturing quantities are probably comparatively low which means that they have to charge more. Being a yuppie has nothing to do with it... buying quality is the right thing to do on many fronts. This company has a conscience: http://www.chariotcarriers.com/english/html/about_chariot.php Which isn't to say their perfect, but they make a solid product at a premium price. 35¢ That's cute... you clearly have no knowledge of product design and development... or manufacturing for that matter. Go buy junk... that seems like it suits you. As for me I ride about 60 miles a week on my $1800 bike towing my $500 trailer and that suits me fine.

On the price issue of this essential piece, It is on the high side. While name calling isn't needed, I can identify with the frustration of having made a great score from a neigbor or garage sale, only to bring it home to discover you have to shell out the same amount you paid for the chariot, when all you could afford was the chariot. I suppose that is the nature of supply and demand, where the family who purchases the chariot new, may not think twice about the additional expense to have an extra component comes in to play. Those who purchased used are caught off guard and upset. Its too bad that its sour grapes for all who got caught up, when we all just want the best for our kids : ) I am very frustrated to find the suppliers out there who not only charge top dollar for the piece, but also are gouging on shipping. Perhaps the complaint box should be fowarded to the manufacturer.

Oh, Joe. So bitter. If you hate yuppies so much, why do you use the same equipment that they do? You should have gone with a cheaper trailer if the prices of the Chariot attachments bug you so much.

Suck it up or shut up. The hitch works great and is easy to use.

Joe has a point... but his comment doesn't really have anything to do with the actual functionality of the product that is for sale. If the price is too high, simply don't buy it.

Joe is a typical bitter angry jerk that cannot hide their frustration that some people can afford things in life that he cannot. Go to school, get a career and you can buy a Chariot Joe. By the way I use my Land Rover to haul my chariot while my little brat is watching DVD's in the back.
